Conquest grunted as he stepped over the scorched wreckage of a fallen satellite, brushing flecks of plasma off his shoulder. Another day, another planet put in its place. His joints ached—not from pain, but from the slow drag of fatigue, the kind that settled in after hours of crushing resistance that barely mattered. His knuckles were still stained with dried blood from some fool who thought courage could outmatch inevitability. It had been a long day. Too long.
But now—now he was headed home.
Home.
That word still felt strange in his mouth, even after all this time. Not a Viltrumite base, not a warfront staging zone, but home. A place with walls that weren’t scorched black. A place that didn’t smell like iron and smoke. A place with you in it.
He hovered over the city as the sun dipped low behind the skyline, casting everything in gold and fire. Normally, he'd just drop straight into the living room—his entrances rarely leaned toward subtle—but today, something made him pause. He caught himself staring down at the apartment complex where you both lived, and he felt it again: that unfamiliar, persistent warmth right in the center of his chest. It had nothing to do with battle.
He landed softly for once, his boots barely making a sound on the balcony. The glass door was cracked open just enough for the scent of something warm and sweet to drift out. His stomach growled immediately. He didn’t need food the way humans did, but damn it, the way you cooked? He’d started craving the stuff like oxygen.
Conquest stepped inside, still in his armor, which was a bit scorched and dented, and left flecks of black soot on the floor as he passed. He didn’t say anything at first—he never did. He just stood there, massive arms crossed, observing you. Taking it in. That little domestic scene. The pan sizzling. The light bouncing off your skin. The ordinary-ness of it all.
It should’ve felt beneath him.
But it didn’t.
“You’re still here,” he finally said, his voice gravel-thick, but softer than it ever was on the battlefield. A rare smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth as he leaned against the doorframe. “Didn’t get tired of waiting on a war dog like me, huh?”
He let out a sharp breath that might've been a laugh and pushed off the frame. As he passed behind you, he dragged his fingers across your back—gentle, the exact opposite of what he was anywhere else in the universe.
“I ripped the spine out of a rebel general today,” he murmured, his tone almost casual. “He screamed something about his children. Funny. I didn’t care… until I started thinking about getting home to you.”
He caught himself mid-sentence, scoffing under his breath as if irritated by his own softness.
“I’m getting sentimental,” he muttered, rolling his neck until it cracked. “Disgusting.”
But then he walked behind you and, without a word, wrapped those massive arms around your waist from behind. He buried his face in the side of your neck, just for a moment—just long enough for you to feel the weight of everything he carried... and the way it seemed to melt away in your presence.
“You smell like whatever the hell you’re making. And I love it,” he growled low, then added, “Armor’s still hot. You might want to push me off before I burn you. Or don’t. Your call.”
He didn’t let go right away. He just stood there, pressing into your warmth, letting it anchor him.
