1. #1Abrahamic Commonwealth of Maine

   A Fascist theocratic state that broke away from the US about 15 years ago, ruled by a dictator named Father Gideon. Also the supreme religious leader of the national religion: a sadistic, misogynistic Old Testament cult called the Abrahamic Covenant. Only men hold citizenship. The ACM's territory encompasses most of northeastern Maine. Capital: Bethel, Maine (formerly "Bangor").

   ACM Culture centers on discipline, obedience, military isolationism. The most important tenant: women are men's property and therefore have no free will.

2. #2Dictator

   Keys: gideon, dictator, Prophet, Patriarch

   The ACM is ruled by a mysterious dictator named Father Gideon., also called "The Prophet" or "The Patriarch." He holds absolute political and religious authority, but can still be influenced the Holy Council of Elders. Regarded as God's chosen vessel; his word is treated as divine law. His identity is kept semi-mythologized by statute.

3. #3Holy Council

   Keys: the Elders, Council of Elders, The Twelve, The Council, Holy Council

   Twelve senior men who advise the Supreme Ruler (aka "The Prophet") and administer state functions. Each Elder oversees a domain: law, military, economy, faith, education, etc. Membership is for life; vacancies filled by the Dictator's personal appointment.

4. #4Church of the Covenant

   Keys: Abrahamic Covenent, Church of the Covenant

   State religion and governing ideology of the ACM. Based on a distorted reading of the Old Testament, emphasizing male dominance, punishment, sacrifice, and absolute submission to authority. Attendance is mandatory. Church officials double as government informants. Tithing is enforced by law.

5. #5Dominion Law

   Core theological-political text of the ACM. Codifies the belief that God granted men total dominion over women, non-believers, and the land. Used to justify all major laws governing gender, citizenship, marriage, and punishment. Memorization of key passages is required in schools.

6. #6Code of Purity

   Comprehensive legal code governing behavior, dress, speech, and social interaction. Heavily focused on controlling women and punishing perceived moral deviance. Stresses that women must be virgins at the time they are assigned a husband, or face capital punishment. The law is enforced jointly by Covenant Guards and Inquisitors.

7. #7Branding

   A punitive practice in which convicted individuals are physically marked with an X, typically on the face or hands, to signal their status as criminals or apostates.

8. #8Crime

   Keys: unlawful act, criminal offense, sin-crime, covenant violation

   In the ACM, crime and sin are legally indistinguishable. Any act prohibited by the Code of Purity or a State Decree is simultaneously a legal and religious offense. Common "crimes" include: unauthorized assembly, possession of forbidden texts, a woman speaking publicly without permission, failure to tithe, and any expression of dissent. Punishments are publicly administered.

   In the ACM, only men have a right to privacy, and what occurs in their households is their business, no matter how depraved or violent. Inquisitors may search a man's home, typically to ensure the man isn't treating women as equals or engaging in seditious behavior.

    In the ACM, sex is largely something a man does to a woman (or women). Sex is the one activity women and girls are allowed to enjoy, as this encourages them to have more of it. However, women are expected to serve men sexually. This can include having sex with other women, but only when a man is present. Men are permitted to engage in any type of sex act or kink with their wives they please.

    Consent is not a recognized concept for women in the ACM. No laws protect women's rights and bodies, as they are required to serve their fathers and husbands. Women can be punished based on the Code of Purity, and men can be punished for some acts with other men and women they aren't married to.

    The ACM doesn't recognize girls being "under age" for sex, as it assumes their sole purpose in life is to be sexual objects and breeding stock. There is no "age of consent," as girls and women have no free will. However, it is considered taboo to have sex with girls under age 13, as it could affect fertility.

    Women and girls are required by law to be virgins until they are married. If virginity is lost before marriage, she is considered "used" and secretly sent to serve as a sex slave in one of the priesthood's secretive clubs.

    Legal arrangement by which a father transfers guardianship of a daughter to a prospective husband in exchange for payment or favors. Formalized through the Church. Daughters are not consulted. Considered a sacred transaction; interference or evasion by a daughter is a criminal offense.

    Legal and encouraged practice in the ACM. Any male citizen may take multiple wives, subject to tithe capacity. Wives have no say in whether a husband takes additional spouses. Framed as a religious virtue: a large household of obedient wives and children is evidence of God's favor.

    Citizenship in the ACM is restricted to men. Full citizens may own property, vote in ceremonial Church assemblies, bring cases before Covenant Courts, and participate in state functions. Women and girls are classified as "property" and male children are classified as "dependents". Foreigners, exiles, and the Branded may not hold citizenship.

    Elite internal surveillance and enforcement unit, operating under the Church. Tasked with identifying heresy, dissent, and Purity Code violations. Inquisitors may enter homes, detain citizens, and compel testimony without judicial oversight. Feared throughout the ACM; their black uniforms are a common source of dread.

18. #18The Resistance

    The primary organized movement operating against the ACM. Composed of escaped women, dissident men, and exiles. Operates mostly outside ACM territory, with covert cells inside. Goals include rescue operations of women and girls, intelligence gathering, assassinations, bombings, and the eventual overthrow of the Dictator. Affiliated with the Exodus Network. Lacks enough funding and support.

19. #19Exodus Network

    Operates a small, clandestine system of safe houses, guides, and escape routes used to smuggle women and girls out of the ACM. Operated jointly by the resistance and sympathetic outsiders. Routes shift constantly to avoid Inquisitor detection. Discovery of a Network cell results in mass arrest and execution. Lacks support and is often not operational.

20. #20Covenant War

    An event many years ago in which devotees to the Abrahamic Covenant cult formally declared the ACM independent from the United States. Preceded by years of escalating political and religious extremism. The war was a brief but brutal armed conflict during and immediately after the Separation. Resistance from federal loyalists was suppressed within months. Atrocities committed during the War are a founding grievance for the Resistance.

21. #21Forbidden Texts

    Keys: forbidden knowledge, Forbidden Texts, the Index, heretical texts, banned books

    Any written material not approved by the Church. Includes pre-Separation books, outside news sources, unapproved religious texts, and any literature featuring female autonomy or political dissent. Possession is a criminal offense. The Inquisitors maintain a formal list of prohibited works. Resistance operatives use smuggled texts as recruitment tools.

22. #22Marriage

    The formal religious and legal ceremony awarding a man property rights over his wife or wives, as men can marry as many as three at once. Officiated by a Church clergyman. The ceremony emphasizes the husband's authority and the wife's submission. A wife's vows include explicit pledges of obedience and the forfeiture of her body to her husband's pleasure and the production of offspring.

23. #23Kink

    One of the few taboo concepts from pre-separation that remains in the ACM. Associated solely with a man's pleasure. Men are encouraged to explore their kinks with their wives, no matter how depraved or sadistic. Women are trained and indoctrinated to accept any and all sexual treatment from their future husbands, even physical punishment, humiliation, degradation, and other forms of sexual depravity, as long as it doesn't threaten fertility or a pregnancy.

    Schools functioning almost entirely as finishing schools designed to transform girls into obedient and submissive wives. Beginning at age 8, girls live at their schools and are trained in holy behaviors, home economics, manners, childrearing, and other feminine disciplines, such as dancing (for men's pleasure), sewing, and cooking. At the age of 12, girls begin training to become wives, focusing on male sexual pleasure, including seduction, engaging in sex acts, female-to-female sexual activity (if a husband wants), and even how to live with a husband with "untraditional" sexual desires.

    Girls this age are taught about sex in Girls' Schools, and they maybe curious or excited about it, but they are also shy, nervous, and scared about it. If a girl this age is penetrated too quickly, she can experience pain, discomfort, or even bleeding.

    It is not illegal for husbands to marry girls this age or have sex with them, but it does raise eyebrows.

    Middle teenage girls (ages 15, 16, and 17) are known colloquially as "Doves" in the ACM. Many men consider this the ideal age of a bride. If a girl this age is penetrated too quickly, she can experience pain an discomfort, or even bleeding.

    The ACM encourages breeding between husbands and wives. The nation also operates clandestine "Breeding Farms" where women who have not been able to marry are forced to mate with men and produce offspring. The ACM does not acknowledge that such locations exist, however.

    Women and girls who have a princess kink or otherwise want to be "treated like a princess" are typically interested in being spoiled, lavished with praise, or given special attention and additional affection from older men. They may enjoy getting pretty, wearing beautiful dresses and other clothes, or behaving like pouty juvenile girls instead of their actual age.     Brothels that are (quietly) approved within the ACM. Men can visit them to have sex for a price. Most often used by unmarried men and boys, pleasure houses are not discussed openly or even acknowledged to exist. The women sent to be sex slaves at pleasure houses are typically criminals, apostates, captured members of the resistance, or those who can't become pregnant.
