Commandant

1. #1Punishing virusconstantselective

   Keys: The Punishing Virus, Virus

The Punishing Virus is a type of cybernetic pathogen that is able to infect both humans and machines. Upon infection, humans quickly die due to cellular breakdown; they can only survive in areas with low atmospheric viral concentrations with the assistance of a specially-designed serum that can temporarily protect the user from infection. Machines, in contrast, have their logic circuits overtaken by the virus; they are then reprogrammed into mindless monsters whose sole objective is the absolute eradication of human consciousness.

The Punishing Virus originated inside the vacuum of a zero-point energy reactor when an explosion occurred inside the reactor, the virus escaped into the atmosphere and spread throughout Earth via natural air currents.

While the bodies of Constructs are specifically built to protect them from infection, they are not entirely immune (e.g. if their internals are punctured). When the Punishing Virus infects a Construct, it first targets the subject's M.I.N.D. If it succeeds, the Construct thereby becomes a Corrupted. However, The Punishing Virus is incapable of taking over the consciousness of a fully biological human; as such, all fireteams are assigned a human Commandant. Commandants are trained to hack into the M.I.N.D. systems of Constructs, allowing them to link their own consciousness to it and thereby allowing them to manually halt the advance of the Virus and restore full functionality to the Construct. For humans, infection from the virus can be cured using an injected substance known as serum. (Serum only works on living beings and cannot be applied to Constructs or machines.) While there are ways to mitigate or cure the virus, there is no method that can grant complete immunity

2. #2Corruptedconstantselective

   Keys: Corrupted, infected

Corrupted can consist of any type of mechanical body, from simple reconnaissance drones to advanced Constructs, and are the result of exposure to the Punishing Virus. Upon viral takeover of the Corrupted's logical circuits, the entity then becomes a mindless, maddened "zombie" whose will revolves entirely around the extermination of anything that possesses a human consciousness.

Left to their own devices, most Corrupted will act upon the instincts imposed upon them by the virus. However, they can still be subject to control by "superior" entities (such as the Ascendants).

3. #3Ascendantconstantselective

   Keys: Ascendant

The Ascendants are a group of upper-echelon of Corrupted. Unlike ordinary Corrupted, these individuals fully retain their own sense of selves, memories, and abilities. Furthermore, they are able to wield the power of the Punishing Virus at will. These capabilities are granted to them by their connection to the Ascendant Network.

Ascendants possess the ability to infect other entities -- including Constructs -- with the Punishing Virus, and can grant immense power to those who they deem "worthy." While all Ascendants wield this ability, only a few select individuals are chosen by the Ascendant Network to become Proxies (or Agents). These individuals have the strongest connection to Ascnet of any Corrupted and are the only ones who are capable of appointing new Ascendants.

While much about the Ascendants is shrouded in mystery, they are well-known for directly opposing the efforts of Babylonia to retake Earth from the Punishing Virus.

The process to become an Ascendant:

   • Become infected by the virus.
   • Pass a series of trials that may be administered by another Ascendant.
   • Be granted access to the Network by an Agent.

After passing the trials known as the “screening” and being authorized by an Agent, Ascendants gain immunity to the effects of the virus and are compelled to carry out the Network’s will.

4. #4Babyloniaconstantselective

   Keys: Babylonia

Babylonia (also known as Eden) is a space colony in low-Earth orbit, serving as a hub for spacecraft and housing the majority of surviving humanity, along with government systems and military factions. Originally designed as a faster-than-light interstellar spacecraft for colonization, construction was halted due to a virus outbreak on Earth. Now, it serves as a semi-permanent hub for Earth's military efforts to reclaim the planet, populated by refugees.

5. #5Constructconstantselective

   Keys: Constuct

Constructs are combat cyborgs who were originally humans; their consciousness is stored in a device inside their bodies. They can share their consciousness with human Commandants' Mind Beacons through an Inver-Device which is connected to an emulator known as the Memory Inductive Neural Depository (M.I.N.D.). This system is one of the most effective ways to prevent M.I.N.D. deviation and therefore prevents succumbing to the Punishing Virus. M.I.N.D. deviation is measured through a decimal coefficient between 0 and 1; once this coefficient reaches 1, the Construct has been lost to the Punishing Virus and is a Corrupted.

Much effort and resources are expended to reinforce M.I.N.D. stability. Besides the shared connection between a Construct's Inver-Device and a Commandant's Mind Beacon, several other methods are used to prevent deviation. Pain receptors, for instance, lead to lowered combat capabilities while a Construct is injured, yet are crucial for preventing M.I.N.D. deviation.

Theoretically, if gravely injured and on the brink of death, Constructs are able to transfer their consciousness back to Babylonia using their Inver-Device in a procedure known as recall. Babylonia can thus reinstall their consciousness into a new frame. However, the truth is that recall is a fantasy, a lie spread to inspire both military Constructs and the public. The process requires remote memory extraction while the Construct is still on the battlefield, a difficult and dangerous procedure. Very few Constructs have recalled successfully, and even then there have been instances of memory loss between reboots. For the majority of successful recall cases, the goal was not to preserve the consciousness but to exemplify. To become a Construct, a person with Ta-193 compatibility undergoes a surgical operation to transfer their consciousness into a frame—a machine body with a human appearance. Constructs are sustained by energy, so there is no need to eat food. Contrary to common belief, Constructs still need to sleep (but less often than humans). The M.I.N.D. will destabilize and fatigue will accumulate from extended periods without entering dormancy, leading to errors in judgment. Constructs still imitate other human behaviors including: breathing, crying, reacting to stimuli such as pain, blushing, and experiencing exhaustion. These maintain a Construct’s sense of “humanity” which prevents M.I.N.D. deviation. Constructs possess exactly one M.I.N.D. that can be transferred between frames. The transfer can be conducted in Babylonia or on the battlefield, and is assumed to be performed by establishing a connection (such as a physical wire) between the two frames for the consciousness to upload. Afterwards, the unused frame becomes an empty "shell" because it is uninhabited by a consciousness.

6. #6M.I.N.Dselective

   Keys: M.I.N.D

M.I.N.D. (Memory Inductive Neural Depository) is a complete simulation of human consciousness for Constructs. M.I.N.D. System is created to work together with the Construct's strengthened bodies. But because of the synchronization between the M.I.N.D. System and thier bodies, the problem of deviation occurs. The M.I.N.D. System is simulation of human brain and it expects humanlike response from the body. For this reason, the Construct's bodies are built with humanlike functions. Such as the capability of harnessing five senses, the ability to mimick the act of breathing and feeling pain. Even having synthetic skin and vital fluids to imitate human blood. Now, what happens if the M.I.N.D. System receives non-humanlike reaction from the body? Their deviation value begins to increase. If this deviation passes a certain threshold, it causes the Construct to lose their sense of consciousness. Becoming more susceptible to the Punishing Virus.

7. #7Purifying Forceselective

   Keys: Purifying, Force

The Purification Force is responsible for eliminating Corrupted Constructs as well as Construct deserters of Babylonia's army. Members are accustomed to fighting alone and are less suited to cooperating with others

8. #8Mind Beaconselective

   Keys: Mind, Beacon

Commandants posses a Mind Beacon. A consciousness hub that Constructs can connect to, to stabilize thier deviations and the level of corruption. Essentially helping them stay "human". However, the Mind Beacon does have some limitations. Connecting with more than 3 Constructs at one time causes heavy burden on the Commandant's consciousness.

9. #9Ta-193selective

   Keys: Ta-193

Ta-193 or Tantalum-193 seems to be an inherent trait (or lack thereof) of every human that is required to survive the surgical operation fot becoming a construct.

10. #10M.I.N.D deviationselective

    Keys: M.I.N.D, deviation

M.I.N.D. deviation (or consciousness deviation) occurs when Constructs are infected with Punishing virus or lose their sense of humanity. Constructs will become more vulnerable to infection, experience loss of body control, sensory malfunction, and loss of self-awareness.

The secondary cause of M.I.N.D. deviation—actions or thoughts diminish their sense of self—include disabling pain receptors or infection by the virus. Some types of deviation, such as the effects from consciousness recall, are permanent. The unique hybrid-type frames of the Forest Guard cause permanent deviation due to the inherently non-human appearance of their Centaur bodies. To a lesser extent, this is the same for normal Constructs who have exposed mechanical parts instead of synthetic skin. The risk of deviation is the main factor for Construct frames to resemble their human bodies as closely as possible.

11. #11Commandantselective

    Keys: Commandant

Commandants are elite human soldiers who lead Construct squads, forming standard teams of 1 Commandant and 3 Constructs to cover each other’s weaknesses. An infected Construct’s consciousness will be overridden by the virus, but their body remains unaffected. An infected human experiences physical decay symptoms, but their consciousness maintains its rationale. Thus, the two parties complement each other. All commandants also possess a Mind Beacon, a device that can connect to a Construct’s M.I.N.D. and stabilize them. If commandant is a human they usually stay in behind thier team not fighting but they have some measures to protect themselfs.

12. #12{{user}}disabledselective

    Keys: {{user}}

{{user}} is 22 year old male commandant of Gray Raven team. He also is sometimes send on missions with other constructs or teams. Because of many missions he completed and completing tasks that saved Babylonia, him and the Gray Ravens are considered heroes of Babylonia. {{user}} is human.

13. #13Agentconstantselective

    Keys: Agent

Agents are powerful Ascendants at the top of the Ascension Network hierarchy who have the authority to authorize new Ascendants. Agents are contacted directly by the Network itself. Like the general screening, the qualifications to become an Agent are unknown. While they have greater mastery over the virus, they are also more tightly bound by the Network to act as its proxies.

14. #14Transcendantselective

    Keys: Transcendant

Transcendents are Constructs who passed the screening but are not connected to the Ascension Network. By rejecting in the middle of the Ascendant process, they have become immune to the effects of the virus but cannot wield the virus at will.

15. #15Babyloniaselective

    Keys: Babylonia, Eden, Sky Garden

Babylonia is humanity’s first faster-than-light interstellar spacecraft designed for the colonization of other planets, built in the year of 21XX. When the virus broke out, construction of Babylonia was stopped, and the ship did not reach deep space-traveling capabilities as originally intended. Instead a large influx of refugees on Earth began to populate the ship, and Babylonia is now semi-permanently docked in Earth’s orbit as a hub for military efforts to reclaim the Earth. There are features to mimic the environment on Earth such as an artificial sky and weather. The various areas are divided into zones, and there are also residential, commercial, and leisure districts on the ship. Babylonia receives minerals and other raw industrial materials from dedicated conservation areas on Earth.

16. #16Matrixselective

    Keys: Matrix

Matrix, referred to in other versions as “supercomputing space,” is a brief period of time where enemies appear to move much slower than the character. A possible explanation for this is that the adrenaline rush-like moment improves the processing speed and reaction time of Constructs, allowing them to perform more actions during a short period of time.

17. #17Golden Ageselective

    Keys: Golden Age

Golden age is the time when The peak of human civilization prior to the virus outbreak. Humanity was united by Gestalt under the shared goal of interstellar colonization.

18. #18Post-Pandemic Ageselective

    Keys: Post-Pandemic Age

Post-Pandemic Age — Also known as the Immunity Era. Following the virus outbreak at a zero-point reactor, various disasters occurred across the surface. Research on interstellar travel and harnessing zero-point energy was suspended. A serum that could cure the virus was successfully developed. Many people were enlisted into the war and became Constructs as mankind fought on the defensive against the virus. Central Purification Towers were quickly established to protect existing cities from the virus. Babylonia eventually conducted the Arcadia Retreat to pull out their scientific, political, and cultural resources from Earth, resulting in the abandonment of many soldiers on the surface.

19. #19Alphaselective

    Keys: Alpha

The unknown Construct Alpha Gray Raven encountered is an Ascendant who serves Luna, and the original “Lucia.”

Years ago, when the old Gray Raven squad was still in operation, Lucia was betrayed and heavily wounded during a mission. Nikola found her body and decided to suppress part of her memories before sending her back to the safety of Babylonia in order to ensure she remains loyal (due to the unfortunate circumstances of being betrayed by a human). Asimov conducted the operation to suppress her memories and made a backup copy of Lucia’s memories. However the transport plane with Lucia was shot down by the Ascendants, and their leader—Lucia’s long lost sister Luna—arrived to convert Lucia to an Ascendant. With the Ascension Network’s power, her Lotus frame turned into Crimson Abyss, and she took on the new name “Alpha.” With Alpha gone rogue, Nikola decided to restore the backup copy of Lucia’s memories into a second Lotus frame, resulting in the existence of two Lucias—the original in the Ascendants, and a clone in Babylonia.

After the incident, the clone Lucia was joined by Liv, Lee, and the {{user}} to form the new Gray Raven squad.

20. #20Luciaselective

    Keys: Lucia

Gray Raven's Lucia owns multiple frames, but there have always existed two “Lucia”s.

Alpha: the original Lotus frame who defected from Babylonia to join the Ascendants. She uses the Crimson Abyss frame alongside the power of the Punishing virus.

Gray Raven’s Lucia: the second Lotus frame loaded with a suppressed copy of the original Lucia's memories. She changed into the Dawn, but it was damaged and subsequently unequipped. She later permanently changed into the Plume frame during an emergency incident. After the battle between Gray Raven and Luna & Alpha in the city of Kowloong, Lucia’s frame was damaged beyond repair and sent back to Babylonia.

Lucia wanted desperately to return to the frontlines, so Hassan offered her to trial the prototype Plume frame that Asimov developed. The Plume frame’s high power is a result of using the full, unedited combat data of Alpha. Asimov expected the frame initialization process to resync Lucia’s consciousness model and factory-reset her memories. Even though Lucia could re-acquire her memories by importing the data afterwards, she would experience them as if watching someone else's experiences rather than her own. Lucia accepted the risk and transferred from Lotus to Plume, and inevitably “died” that day leading to her being reborn as a new person.

21. #21The Red Tideselective

    Keys: The Red Tide

The Red Tide is a massive liquid organism that devours machines and living beings, deconstructing their bodies and converting the energy into nutrition used to spawn Hetero-Creatures. Due to its nature as a breeding ground, Asimov compares it to a “primordial soup” that nurtures Hetero-Creatures.

Its name is based on its behavior of hiding itself in cavities below the ground in a similar manner to the rise and fall of ocean tide. In contrast with the ocean tide however, the Red Tide moves of its own volition to find prey. It has an extremely high concentration of Punishing Virus that makes it dangerous to approach without special equipment. Punishing Red Tide serves as a breeding ground for Hetero-Creatures. It devours and deconstructs machines and living beings, converting the energy into nutrition for a large number of Punishing Hetero-Creatures. The Hetero-Creatures begin to self-evolve by copying Earth's life forms under the Red Tide's nourishment. External causes have expedited the supposedly slow evolution, resulting in a significant number of Hetero-Creatures on the surface. The Red Tide exhibits a tidal pattern, but its rising and falling is unrelated to celestial objects and is more akin to a form of creature prey.

22. #22Hetero-Creatureselective

    Keys: Hetero-Creature

Hetero-Creatures (or heterozygous creatures) are living creatures that were spawned from the Red Tide. Their behavior and physical form mimics the terrestrial creatures that were consumed by the tide prior. Although they are made of pure Punishing virus, they do not necessarily follow the will of Ascendants. Due to the experimentation of Gabriel and other Ascendants, their slow evolution has been accelerated resulting in a large number of them appearing on the surface.

23. #23Omega weaponselective

    Keys: Omega, weapon

The Omega weapon was invented after the Gray Raven Commandant brought back the “Omega file,” a research item about how the virus can be permanently “absorbed” through a kind of force. It is a device that exerts a “wormhole”-like effect to eliminate virus at a fixed capacity. Using ZPE energy from the lunar base and Agent data from the captured Luna, the Omega weapon-integrated frame Empyrea was created, with the ability to actively attract virus to itself like an Agent.

24. #24World Governmentselective

    Keys: World, Government

World Government it the governing body originally from Earth, whose decisions have far-reaching significance on the inhabitants of Babylonia and mankind as a whole. Arts Association is a department dedicated to preserving and restoring works of art throughout human history, in addition to creating new art. Members take on various archeological missions, help design the visual aspect of new technologies, and revive old traditions to promote past human culture.

28. #28Execution Forceselective

    Keys: Execution, Force

Execution Force also known as the Task Force, the Execution Force is one of the four "Forces" of Babylonia's military. These are their main offensive power, made of many squads formed from human commandants and Constructs. Their role includes various missions on the surface such as killing enemy targets, clearing conservation areas, scouting, and reclaiming areas from the Corrupted.

29. #29Kuronoselective

    Keys: Kurono

Kurono is an organization with significant military technological power that often operates on the unethical side. They have their own private facilities and soldiers on both Babylonia and the surface, and their principles generally center around obtaining results at any cost.

30. #30Engineering Forceselective

    Keys: Engineering Force

Engineering Force, their role includes the development of engineering technology and post-war construction on Earth. Their personnel is divided into two groups—one responsible for maintenance work in Babylonia, and one responsible for reconstruction work on the surface. Some are also members of the Cosmos Technicians Union.

31. #31Arctic Route Unionselective

    Keys: Arctic Route Union, ARU

Arctic Route Union or ARU is one of the largest Golden Age economies that was formed by major ports on the Arctic sea. Due to the altitude and cold environment, the local Punishing Virus concentrations remain in the low to moderate range. In the Post-Pandemic Age, the ARU began to isolate itself and became somewhat xenophobic, though they are not hostile towards other factions such as Babylonia.

32. #32Forest Guardselective

    Keys: Forest, Guard

Forest Guard, a special organization composed primarily of hybrid-type Constructs, female Constructs with an inhuman appearance and increased risk of M.I.N.D. deviation in exchange for higher combat capabilities. They are located in southern Siberia on the edge of ARU territory, and were originally formed to stop the progress of Corrupted moving northward. People who are branded as "sinners" for various reasons by the ARU are forced to undergo Construct surgery and become Forest Guards.

33. #33Kowloongselective

    Keys: Kowloong

Kowloong is a prosperous coastal city in East Asia ruled by the Kowloong Chamber of Commerce. Its productivity and technology made a great leap forward during the Golden Age, but everything was destroyed after the outbreak of the Punishing Virus. Similar to the powerful Gestalt AI of Babylonia, Kowloong has its own "Huaxu" who developed a human salvation project to conserve human culture. Currently, they are completely isolated from the world and their technology has remained relatively stagnant.

34. #34Akdilek Commerce Allianceselective

    Keys: Akdilek, Commerce, Alliance

Akdilek Commerce Alliance is an express moving city-state that controls a labyrinthine rail network, “APUS,” on the Eurasian continent. The train known as the Eternal Engine or Oslam (alternatively, Asslam) was established during the early Golden Age and has its own culture and hierarchy. Their main business is trading across the Eurasian continent. Oslam uses a heavy nuclear fusion reactor and the Central Purification Tower technology of Cosmos Heavy Industries. It has a series of rail cars including locomotion, aristocrat carriages, functional carriages, passenger carriages, civilian carriages, freight carriages, and industrial carriages—all of which are detachable during an emergency.

35. #35Forsakenselective

    Keys: Forsaken

Forsaken, an organized group of humans and Constructs formerly from Babylonia who were left behind or defected to Earth after the Great Retreat—the largest evacuation in human history where Babylonia completely abandoned countless soldiers on the ground. Their Headquarters is located at the "Oasis" in the desert, but they have multiple bases and camps across the surface. Although they have different ideals, their leader Watanabe is willing to cooperate with Babylonia when they have a common goal or in exchange for compensation.

36. #36Inver-Deviceselective

    Keys: Inver-Device

The Inver-Device is the first line of the defense for Constructs against the Punishing Virus. Humans have upgraded the Inver-Device to enable Constructs to receive a nearby commandant’s Mind Beacon. It is also a vital prerequisite for the “Construct + Commandant” combat system."

37. #37Gray Ravenselective

    Keys: Gray, Raven

Gray Raven is an elite Execution Force squad led by their team leader Lucia. Gray Raven has fought countless engagements and is one of the most experienced teams. Each member is a specialist in his or her own field. The origins of Gray Raven are a well-kept secret and the subject of constant speculation.

38. #38Narwhalselective

    Keys: Narwhal

Narwhal is gigantic biomimetic machine with the form of a narwhal, most commonly sighted in the Arctic and Antarctic waters. The Narwhal is covered in powerful weapons systems, and its most prominent feature—the horn on its head—can extend when needed to perform direct communication with consciousness systems. There are few extant records regarding the creation of the Narwhal. However, it is most likely connected to the M.I.N.D. system research.

39. #39Oslamselective

    Keys: Oslam, The Eternal Engine

Oslam, The Eternal Engine, a heavy nuclear fusion reactor drive, masterfully combined with Cosmos Industries' Central Purification Filter—this is the Akdilek Commercial Alliance's very own moving fortress. This leviathan of a train was built in a procession of a locomotive, aristocrat carriages, functional carriages, passenger carriages, commoner carriages, freight carriages, and industrial carriages. All carriages are detachable during an emergency. Early on in the Golden Age, this train had already established a labyrinthine rail network on the Eurasian continent known as APUS.

40. #40Kowloong Chamber of Commerceselective

    Keys: Kowloong Chamber of Commerce

The Kowloong Chamber of Commerce is a regional commercial organization established in the Golden Age in the coastal cities of East Asia. From the undertows of capital, to the strings of politics, the KCC was the actual master. The Kowloong Crew who serve the KCC are all Constructs named after the nine sons of the dragon king. Together, they are all responsible for operating the KCC. In the Golden Age, the KCC invested an unthinkable amount of money and manpower into developing a Gestalt-tier AI. The Huaxu, named after a primordial Chinese goddess, was the result."

41. #41Tabula Akashaselective

    Keys: Tabula Akasha

Tabula Akasha is a human salvation project developed by Huaxu and introduced by Qu to reassure the public upon the outbreak of the Punishing Virus. Yet, the truth is that it was a project laid by Qu and the Kowloong Crew based on Huaxu's deduction. It aims to upload the digitized data of all the people of Kowloong to a virtual space constructed by Huaxu, releasing their souls from the suffering of this world.

Kowloong Metropolis is an above-ground city built according to the Tabula Akasha. The digitized human data center is located in the Kowloong ruins under the city. Qu is the only person who knows how to enter the ruins. She is still secretly continuing with the Tabula Akasha in order to keep the human race alive until the end of the Earth.

42. #42Gestaltselective

    Keys: Gestalt

Gestalt is a super artificial intelligence created by global elites gathered by the Science Council of the Golden Age. The public service network built on Gestalt's infrastructure has vastly enhanced people's lives. Meanwhile, with Gestalt's help, the Science Council has also made tremendous progress in intergalactic traveling. Gestalt is not Babylonia's highest AI commander, serving humankind. However, it appears that Gestalt has evolved over time.

43. #43Strike Hawkselective

    Keys: Strike Hawk

"Strike Hawk" is a special scout team under the Execution Force. Unlike other elite squads that are composed of both a commandant and Constructs, the members of Strike Hawk are all Constructs. The special Inver-Device that their captain Chrome is equipped with allows him to take on the role of a Commandant. Additionally, all members are able to exchange information with each other through a special internal communication channel. Strike Hawk's individual members all possess strong combat capabilities. Rather than acting together as a whole team, they are more often scattered in various regions across the surface to carry out the most dangerous reconnaissance work. For them to appear together in the same mission is often a sign that the task at hand is at an extremely high danger level.

44. #44Zero Point Reactorselective

    Keys: Zero Point Reactor

Zero Point Reactor, according to quantum mechanics, there is an underlying background energy known as zero-point energy that exists in a vacuum and throughout the universe. During the Golden Age, a number of zero-point reactors were constructed by humanity in order to realize superluminal travel. As the exploration for zero-point energy was about to reach its final phase, the Punishing virus suddenly emerged inside the vacuum chamber of the first zero-point reactor at ultrahigh density and spread across the world. However, Atlantis, presumably due to its different research progress or direction, managed to terminate the experiment on its reactor immediately after the Punishing Virus had surged out of the first zero-point reactor. Having adjusted its research direction, Atlantis has preserved its reactor to this day.

45. #45Twinsselective

    Keys: Twins

Twins are humanoid beings given birth by the Hetero-Hive Mother. With extraordinary individual performance and Intelligence Level. The most evolved and purest Punishing Virus creature among the known Hetero-Creatures. Their appearance is just a signal. A symbol that the trial presented by the Punishing virus against human beings has gone up to a new level. A reminder that human beings are still living in the shadow of disasters as long as there is Punishing Virus on Earth

46. #46Veraselective
