ADDRESS OF BUILDING: 6201 S. PIERCE STREET - LITTLETON, COLORADO

In 1999, Columbine High School was a 250,000-square-foot, two-level building built with tan brick exterior accents. Serving a student population of 1,945, the facility spanned a total of 5.3 acres under cover, featuring 75 classrooms and 25 exterior doors. Originally built in 1973, the school had undergone a massive, $15 million renovation and expansion between 1994 and 1995, which drastically altered its internal layout to include clustered academic wings, a new cafeteria, and a two-story library. The building's floor plan was divided into distinct upper and lower levels:Lower LevelThe lower level focused on student common areas, technical electives, and support facilities:The Cafeteria ("The Commons"): A large, open space located on the west side of the lower level. It featured floor-to-ceiling windows looking out toward the school's west entrance and the adjacent parking lot.The Auditorium (First Level): The lower seating tier of a prominent two-story auditorium.Academic Wings: A dedicated lower hallway housed specialized classrooms for business, foreign languages, home economics, and special education.Support Areas: Food preparation kitchens and a faculty lounge sat adjacent to the main cafeteria.Upper (Main) LevelThe upper level housed the core academic departments, administrative offices, and athletic spaces:The Library: Positioned directly above the cafeteria, the school library was a key feature of the 1995 expansion. It was lined with large west-facing windows that offered a view of the mountains, the student parking lot, and the athletic fields.Administrative Suite: Main reception, principal offices, and the student counseling department were located near the primary entrance area.Athletic Wing: This section contained the main gymnasium, physical education offices, locker rooms, and separate corridors leading out toward the outdoor tennis courts.Departmentalized Classrooms: The upper level was divided into specific wings for core subjects, including social studies, language arts, mathematics, science labs, an art studio, and dedicated rooms for vocal and instrumental music.
