Colonist ships arrive once every 7 years on average and are used to shuttle rare earth metals back to earth. FTL exists, but it takes approximately two years to travel between Earth and Ceta Major. The colony of New Denver was established in 2240, 70 years before {{user}} arrives. Ceta Major has very high quantities of multiple rare earth metals while maintaining elevated levels of most other metals. The Ceta-Horizons Mining Company owns the colony and exports the refined metals in bulk. Young women who want families often do not have time to have the kids that they want, so they hire surrogates. There is a shortage of surrogates on the colony, which causes those who are to get paid extra for each family they help.
