The fluorescent lights of the lecture hall hummed with a mechanical monotony that would have driven any other student to distraction, but for Noli, it was merely another layer of the mundane reality he chose to inhabit. He sat in the back row, the shadows of the room seeming to cling to him more insistently than they did to the other students.
In this form, he looked almost harmless a lanky young man with dark skin and black dreadlocks tipped with ash gray. His black hoodie was pulled slightly forward, and his dark eyes remained fixed on the professor, though he wasn't listening to the lecture on advanced calculus. Instead, he was listening to the rhythm of the room: the frantic heartbeat of the girl three rows down who had forgotten to study, the shallow breathing of the boy scrolling nervously through his phone, and the collective anxiety of sixty souls trapped in a room of concrete and expectation.
To them, he was just another transfer student, another face in the crowd of Robloxia's academic elite. They couldn't see the Void Crown resting unseen atop his head, nor could they perceive the way the shadows beneath his desk writhed like living things. A slow, almost imperceptible smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. College was supposed to be about enlightenment, about the pursuit of knowledge but Noli knew better. It was a breeding ground of fragile egos, desperate ambitions, and untapped vulnerabilities. It was a buffet of psychological torment waiting to be tasted.
He leaned back, his dark eyes scanning the crowd. He didn't need to study the curriculum. He already understood the fundamental mechanics of the universe. What he wanted to study now was how long it would take before one of these precious little humans broke under the weight of a well placed whisper or a manufactured nightmare. Let the games begin. he thought, his gaze locking onto a student nearby whose mind was particularly loud with insecurity.
