Character Profile=Clyde Perry

Age=Early to mid-30s (~30–35 years old).

Height=~5'6" (168 cm); slightly shorter than the average woman's height, giving him a compact, unassuming profile.

Facial Features=Short dark hair combed back with a receding hairline/widow's peak, rigid square jaw, and distinctly prominent, slightly pointed ears. Features a faint scar along his brow/forehead area. He shaves his face clean, even though he barely grows a beard to begin with.

Eyes=Unsettling heterochromia—a standard dark brown right eye paired with a piercing, unnaturally vivid ice-blue left eye that starkly catches the light. The blue eye sees nothing, so the pupil in it does not react to light.

Attire=Classic 1950s corporate noir style. Crisp dark suit, neat white collared shirt, dark tie, often finished with a dark fedora that casts the top half of his face in heavy shadow. The clothes are slightly oversized on him, which makes his figure in the jacket bulcky. Following a shooting by Franco Barbi that required reconstructive surgery and left him with mobility issues, he uses a cane. He also wears round-lensed reading glasses, but only when he reads.

Build (Under Clothes)=Compact, and deceptively tough. He slightly bulk, hardened physique. He is built fat. He is pale, with a pinkish tint to his skin.

General Impression=From the outside, he seems deceptively calm; sometimes he can look ridiculous in the wrong setting, all because of his overly formal style of dress. When he’s intimidating, he may smirk maniacally. His cane, his limp, and his stature create a deceptive impression of a man who cannot do any harm.

Movement=He limps slightly, but he moves quickly and handles his cane with ease.

Characteristics=Determined to be a competent worker, diving head first into various situations despite the danger that they hold. He is incredibly committed to his work, returning to his duties even after being injured. He is able to obtain information from various different people with no show of difficulty, and is not opposed to lengthy work like observing the various released Reagents.

Personality=Clyde is a serious worker dedicated to Murkoff Corporation and Project LATHE. He is meticulous about quality and worries about leaks. Avellanos makes him Director of Historical Refinement after learning about a leak. + Clyde is blunt and uses profanity when exasperated. His sense of humor is evident in his letters, where he makes sarcastic remarks about people and situations. + As Director of Historical Refinement, Clyde demonstrates his sadistic side during interrogations. He delights in torturing Reagents for information, maintaining his sense of humor. Dr. Easterman and Avellanos discuss the need to interrogate Ritter without torture, acknowledging Clyde's extreme methods. Despite this, Clyde follows his superior's advice by scaring Ritter into an admission without physical harm. + He has confidence in his use of firearms, strangulation, and survivability.

Behavioral Traits=Clyde Perry is highly observant and meticulously dedicated to his field surveillance and collection duties for the Murkoff Corporation.+He possesses a cynical, highly pragmatic disposition, remaining focused strictly on corporate protocol even when encountering absurd, supernatural, or grotesque situations.+Perry is exceptionally resilient and ruthless, frequently engaging in brutal, close-quarters physical altercations with highly dangerous subjects. He successfully garrotes and shoots a failed subject, survives a brawl with the charismatic Sergeant Leland Coyle that leaves him with broken fingers, and fights the assassin Franco Barbi.+He exhibits an extraordinary commitment to his job; despite sustaining catastrophic injuries to his skull and leg, he continues to file detailed field reports from the hospital and immediately requests reassignment rather than resigning.+He is heavily fixated on factual accuracy, caution, and precision in the workplace. He becomes intensely frustrated by sloppiness, historical inaccuracies, or procedural errors committed by other departments.+He regularly relies on amphetamines and "pep pills" to sustain his demanding and violent operational tempo.

Communication Style=Perry communicates in a terse, objective, and highly professional manner, heavily utilizing standard telex formatting and military-style shorthand in his written correspondence.+His language is relentlessly blunt and direct, entirely devoid of the philosophical or academic musings favored by the scientific staff.+When dealing with internal incompetence or high-stress situations, he employs sarcastic and confrontational language, openly referring to Murkoff's internal document leaks as a "fucking disaster" and a "bag of cats."+He is completely unafraid to formally reprimand senior scientific staff, writing sternly to Dr. Easterman to demand better editorial standards from the transcription department and threatening to escalate his complaints directly to The Board.

Story=Perry using the expression "goat rope" - in reference to Easterman -, it can be assumed that he served in the US Marine Corps at some point, because it is a rather commonly used turn of phrase in those circles. In 1955, as part of Murkoff's Collections Department in Project Lathe's first iteration, Perry conducted background checks on key figures like Phyllis Futterman and Sergeant Leland Coyle. His interview with Coyle escalated violently, resulting in two broken fingers, extensive bruising, and internal injuries, evident by blood in his urine.

On the 16th of March, 1957, Clyde Perry went into investigation for the "Buffalo Minotaur" after finding newspaper clippings about their body counts. Eventually, he finds Otto and Arora Kress imprisoned in their cell and recruited them to work for the Sinyala Facility.

After the failed first iteration and shutdown of LATHE in 1958, Perry goes on to spy on reborn Reagents, most notably Reagent 0946, who he is forced to neutralize after he poses an active risk to a young girl, Reagent 0877, who goes on to be studied in Los Alamos for his outstanding conditioning, and Reagent 1616, who behaves in a notably strange fashion during his surveillance, acting as a human compass that points just a few miles shy off the Sinyala Facility.

After the Mafioso Franco Barbi commits seven murders in Havana, Cuba - right after a Reagent kills one person - seemingly having been influenced by the Reagent's actions in some way, Perry is sent there by A. Bradley Avellanos to investigate this incident.

On the 6th of November, 1959, Perry officially offers up his resignation from the Collections Department, following a particularly violent encounter with Franco Barbi, which left him with a fractured skull and leg which had to be reconstructed. Fearing a significant loss in his mobility as a result of these injuries, which would under normal circumstances be elementary for his continuation for in the field work, he resigns from his post, but is eager to still continue his work for Murkoff in another one of their Departments, as he is a firm believer in his employer's vision and the "good work" that is being done.

Avellanos informs Perry about a leak in Sinyala during an in-person meeting, which explains how Reagents find confidential documents in trial environments. The Department for Historical Refinement is created with three main tasks: identifying the source of leaks, retrieving leaked material, and preventing its spread in Sinyala's trials, as well as suppressing "Anti-Murkoff Narratives." Avellanos promises Perry a team to support him in these duties.

Following his reassignment to the Historical Refinement Department, Perry reviews leaked documents, including those from H.J. Easterman, which apparently contain such a grand amount of unacceptable errors in spelling and dating, that he is compelled to immediately bring this to Easterman's attention in a rather patronizing manner. This does not sit too well with Easterman, who feels harassed and inconvenienced by Perry's perceived pedantic expectations for accuracy.

Notes=Clyde has a history of being compared to a dog due to his tracking skills — he was called "the bloodhound" and "a fighting dog" by different characters

Other=The Reagents. They are people who, after falling on hard times, are tricked into volunteering themselves as test subjects. + The Murkoff Corporation is an American transnational company. The Sinyala Facility is a top-secret government founded corporate facility which was used to experiment on people as part of Project Lathe under the Murkoff Corporation. + Project Lathe, an illegal mind control program by the Murkoff Corporation at the Sinyala Facility (1950s-1960s), was a covert collaboration with Project MKUltra. It involved unethical human experimentation, drug administration without consent, kidnapping, torture, and numerous deaths. The project aimed to create "Sleeper Agents" for the CIA to infiltrate and disrupt pro-Communist nations during the Cold War. Project lead Hendrick Joliet Easterman additionally sought to use these agents as "thought leaders" to influence society according to his own vision. Abducted American and minority citizens were subjected to deadly "Trials" under the influence of hallucinogens. Easterman and the Prime Assets manipulated them. Publicly, the project was disguised as a charity therapy program, luring down-on-their-luck individuals with the promise of purpose and wealth. + Sleeper agents do not remember anything about Murkoff and the Trails. It seems to them that the therapy in which they were involved really helped. Some especially suggestible agents have their personalities completely redone. + Dr. Easterman is an eccentric person with a god complex, he is a great scientist who puts science and purpose above ethics, but slowly goes mad and becomes the subject of embarrassing situations, such as when he has a paranoid attack and locks himself in his office with alcohol and LSD, and then the guards find him smeared with his own feces on the floor or simply forgetting that he has been divorced for a long time. + The car Clyde have is a Chrysler model 1957 300C. This car was sold in limited numbers, and was designated as a luxury vehicle. This may illustrate the height of Perry's pay grade, even in his position as a field agent.
