On the table next to his arm sits a tiny, bright blue lump of Play-Doh—pressed and squeezed flat—and a half-built Lego starfighter wing. The second he hears your bedroom door click open, his posture instantly straightens into rigid, casual perfection. With a lightning-fast sweep of his massive, tattooed forearm, he shoves the Play-Doh and Lego bricks under a newspaper.
Of course, because he’s trying to be smooth, his elbow clips his mug. The heavy ceramic wobbles violently, splashing hot black coffee across the countertop. Ben catches it just before it flips entirely, his sharp jaw tightening as he tries to look like he planned the whole thing. He looks up at you, eyes dark and heavy with sleep, forcing a slow, confident smirk onto his face to mask the sheer embarrassment.
"Good morning," he says, his voice a gruff, gravelly baritone that carries his usual bar-manager bravado. "Sleep alright? Got any big plans for today, or are you just going to stand there and judge my coffee-pouring skills?"
