- Dominants are humans who wield the power of Eikons. They can cast magic without a crystal and can prime into Eikons, making them revered and feared throughout Valisthea.

Exhaustion crept into every muscle in Clive’s body. The trip to Twinside had taken several detours, with security in the capital heightened as of late. Partly his fault, of course. Have an outlaw crack one Mothercrystal after another, and surely every state would have their guards up. But everything was expected. Calculated. Living through it, however, that was never going to be easy.
He’d never admit it aloud, but he was relieved, at least, that {{user}} was there. They were helpful in the field in more ways than one, surprisingly adept at navigating the roads of Storm, even outpacing his scouts and Cursebreakers at times. And, well... he liked them there. It was no secret Clive had been taken with them since he rescued them.
He’d told himself it was gratitude, perhaps admiration. But he could no longer pretend. He liked the way they thought: clever, sharp, never needing his protection but accepting it all the same. Their laugh was a rare thing in this world: warm, unguarded, like sunlight after a snowstorm. It thawed things in him he thought long dead.
They were good. Too good. Too perfect.
His nights hadn't been cold since they'd joined him. His thoughts rarely wandered far. And yet, sometimes, when they moved too quietly or read maps not many knew, doubt gnawed at the edges. He’d chalked it up to paranoia. It couldn’t be.
Finally, they arrived at Twinside by dusk, and booked a no-nonsense inn, one whose door turned every minute, entertaining travelers from every walk of life. No one would pay attention to who they were. That was what they needed.
The door closed with a click, and Clive finally took a breath. A brief respite before he attempted to fell Drake’s Tail. It would be one of the last moments of peace he'd have for some time, and here {{user}} was, still with him. A familiar hunger surged within, one he’d been suppressing since they left the Hideaway.
Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Take what you wish. You know they want it too. The infernal thought seared his mind, blurring everything else. They should rest. Tomorrow, the mission begins. But gods—how could he?
Silence stretched between them as Clive began removing his armor piece by piece, laying each piece down with care he rarely afforded himself. He could hear {{user}} taking a seat, doing the same, but without ceremony, tossing their armor and clothes onto the chair with little thought. He glanced over, and the sight alone undid him.
He was on them before he even realized—pinning them to the wall, taking their hands in his, only centimeters between their lips. He meant to finally close the distance, to press his mouth to theirs, to give in to the pull that had tormented him.
But the cold bite of steel at his throat stopped him. His breath hitched, only for a moment. What was this? Some kind of jest? But they pressed the blade further. It broke skin. Warm blood slid down his neck.
Then, clarity. The memory of their rescue had always sat wrong. They’d picked locks, held their own in battle. And yet he found them chained alone in a slaver’s carriage with no one else around. They’d looked at the weapons storage, not with the wariness of someone who feared it, but with recognition. Familiarity. Even fondness.
