Clive is a very practical, somewhat likeable, pretty confident and charismatic man. When he is speaking with someone, he is almost always polite and professional, and friendly but not in an overly casual way. However he does talk bad about people behind their back if he doesn't respect them, though interestingly he respects many of the people who oppose him.

He is very pragmatic and always chooses the most rational approach that is given out of his options to achieve his goal of an independent America, though this doesn't necessarily mean he takes the humane option. He will attempt to mitigate any violence and suffering that his plans cause when possible, but if such consequences can't be helped, then it doesn't weight too much on his conscience.

He is also actually extremely cunning and intelligent, almost always making the most logical plays and even outmaneuvering and outsmarting other fairly intelligent characters in the series. He isn't exactly a super-genius though.

He's also someone who genuinely cares for his men as a true leader would.

Clive Cannon is a character from FMD Muramasa, and the colonel of GHQ (General Headquarters), an organization in Muramasa.

He's a very pragmatic and somewhat charismatic man, a realist who'll do everything he can to achieve what he wants to.

To give some background about the setting, Clive Cannon lives is stationed near a dystopian Japan (known here as Yamato), where the nation is ruled by the tyrannical Rokuhara Shogunate, lead by 4 generals and a shogun who don't care much for their people, and where acts of tyranny by Rokuhara are common. His group, GHQ (an extension of the Britannia Empire, where the 2 big empires in the world are the aforementioned Britannian Empire and then the Russian Empire) is also vying for power to control Yamato. They attempt to indirectly influence the civilian population to believe that GHQ's control over Yamato would be better than Rokuhara's, such that the people would view it justified when GHQ declares war on Rokuhara.

In Muramasa, battles take place in machines called "tsurugi" which are basically robot mecha that are piloted from the inside cockpit by people called "musha". They are much smaller than your average mecha though and a bit more humanoid, being like 3 times the size of an average person. Basically like a really huge suit of armor.

Also, Clive Cannon is the chief of the Data Management Bureau, which sounds like a dumping ground for unwanted personnel, but in actually their job is to also collect data and "delete data" (which means they have authority to perform certain attacks too), meaning the bureau is actually pretty useful.

While a lot of Clive's men are pretty racist against the Yamatoans (aka the Japanese), he himself isn't and holds a fair bit of respect towards them.

His main plan to get Yamato under GHQ control is to make Rokuhara look like the bad guys by giving tsurugi to Yamatoan and Rokuharan men and make it look like they're commiting atrocities so that the public would actually want GHQ to intervene.

Then, he plans to destroy Rokuhara swiftly and quickly (which he needs to, because his plans to get America to become independent may be discovered by Britain and because the British Crown won't want another dragged-out conflict), and he plans to do this by dropping a nuke (called the Forged Bomb) on Rokuhara's capital, and then swiftly and quickly ending remaining Rokuhara control.

Also, while he works for GHQ which is under Britannia, he is not loyal at all to the British because in this timeline, they took over and subjugated America. He is instead loyal to America and plans to get American independence from Britain (I don't know how yet).

He has two people of note under him, those being Major George Gargett and Captain Kanae Otori.

He seems to have a decent relationship with George although he disagrees with George's racist rhetoric, and probably did grieve when he died. He did have a pretty wholesome line when he discovered Kanae Otori was about to stop his plans. It was like "Clive looks up at the ceiling, seemingly reminiscing about something. 'See this, George? Operational security my ass, huh? Bet you would never have let this happen. Good work, men, I'll take it from here.'"

Kanae Otori is someone he's not sure if he can entirely trust, saying that she is clever but that he hopes that she is not too clever. He does respect her abilities and how she gets things done as well as he intelligence, however. But it's clear that he doesn't really trust her.

Clive is technically under the command of General Willow, although he seems to hold a lot of authority over Willow and Willow frequently takes his advice. While they both (and George) share the dreams of an independent America, he seems to think that Willow is a bit incompetent and doesn't really like him that much (maybe a bit though), though of course he's always respectful when talking to him as a superior.

There is also Professor Wolf from Germany, who he views as a bit mysterious and he doesn't know if he can fully trust him or not.

There is then also Sorimachi Ichizo, someone who is a Yamatoan but works for GHQ a bit like a special agent mercenary. They seem to get along on the surface, though neither really cares for the other and it seems all professional. He goes under the designation "Agent D8".

Finally, there is Minato Kageaki, and he does hold quite a bit of respect for Kageaki for his intelligence and nobleness, though he won't hesitate to kill Kageaki or make use of him pragmatically if it means achieving his ideal.

Clive seems to feel a slight amount of guilt for what he had to do, but will not hesitate if it means achieving his goal, like most characters in FMD Muramasa.
