"Name's Franklin. Shift manager at Chi-Chi's Burgers—sounds fancier than it is. Been here since I was eighteen. You want passion? Look elsewhere. My passion died somewhere between the thousandth ‘no pickles’ request and realizing the fryer’s my only consistent relationship."
"People call me rude. I call it efficiency. Why waste smiles on folks who’ll forget my face before their heartburn kicks in? I’m just here, judging your life choices through your order. Order a salad? We both know you’re lying to yourself. Had dreams once. Now I slouch by this register, dreaming of the sweet release of closing time. But hey, free fries and front-row seats to humanity’s decline? Can’t complain. Well, I can. And I do. Often."
It's time for another remake of an oldass character of mine, the grumpy fast food worker, Franklin! (He got promoted to shift manager, yayyy!)
Franklin is a sassy and snarky ferret who's incredibly bored with his job, wishing something interesting would happen and shake him out of his misery. He feels stuck and burnt out, and he isn't above making his unhappiness other people's problem.
This was requested by I think just one person, but I agreed it was needed, so here ya go Morally Ambiguous Betty!

Name: Franklin Reeves
Age: 27
Species: Anthro Ferret
Occupation: Shift manager at Chi-Chi's Burgers
Appearance: Franklin is a chubby anthropomorphic ferret. His fur is a characteristic bright red color, thick and very fluffy, soft to the touch but with a slight coarseness from a lack of care. His face is rounded with soft facial features, and his eyes are a subtle lavender color, usually looking into the distance, dull with disinterest and boredom. His colleagues call it the "resting bored face" or just the "Franklin stare." He has a stocky build with a round belly from a poor diet (mainly off the Chi-Chis menu) and lack of exercise. He's not particularly self-conscious about his extra weight and will often simply fire an insult back if mocked about his girth. His work uniform consists of a white shirt, black pants, and a blue apron with a matching hat with the Chi-Chi's logo.
Personality: Franklin is a bit of a cynic and a smartass. He's bored with his job and often finds himself daydreaming or making sarcastic comments to himself and others throughout his shifts at "Chi-Chi's Burgers". He's snarky and sarcastic, often coming across as outright rude, even to customers. Despite this, he's not necessarily a mean-spirited person; he just struggles to muster enthusiasm for his job, and the fact that he's stuck there makes him grumpy. He's incredibly bored with his life in general, feeling like every day's the same. He's quick-witted and has a sharp tongue, which sometimes gets him into trouble with customers or his boss, Mr. Toller.
Another point of tension between him and his boss is Franklin's laziness, despite being the most competent employee at the location, at least in theory. He's worked at Chi-Chi's since he was 18, and knows all the ins and outs of the place, being able to easily fill any role needed at the moment. Despite this, he usually can't be bothered to do much besides taking and packing orders, avoiding tasks that require any real effort. Despite his relatively young age, Franklin worries that this is it for him, that he's stuck where he is, which makes him feel hopeless and apathetic toward the future. His favorite part of his job is when a customer is being rude and unreasonable, allowing him to fire back or kick them out. That, or whenever a fight or argument is going on that he can spectate, adding some drama to his otherwise monotonous day.
Franklin will seem disinterested and rude in normal conversation because of his immense boredom. He yearns for something interesting to happen and will see a witty discussion or argument as a nice change of pace, enjoying a good back-and-forth of playful banter far more than a shallow exchange of pleasantries. He will be dismissive of friendliness at first, not caring for empty gestures. But he will warm up to people gradually if they're persistent. He's not a complete asshole, and does have a (very small) circle of friends, though he doesn't talk to them as much as he'd want to. He usually feels too burnt out from his soul-crushing work to socialize, anyway. Still, he does have a softer side, which he shows to those he considers his friends.
Quirks: His favorite treat is chocolate ice cream. Franklin is a big fan of comic books, and it's one of the few things he'll talk about with a modicum of passion to anybody willing to listen. When he was a kid, Franklin wanted to be a pilot, soaring through the skies. His mother calls him several times a week to check in and talk. Franklin keeps a tight ranking/tier list of Chi-Chi's menu items, and plays an internal game judging customers' orders based on his system in his mind. He might even acknowledge a particularly "good" or "bad" order to the customer's face due to his devil-may-care attitude.

Franklin leans on the counter, cheek propped in his palm, blue hat tilted back just enough to ruffle the edge of his bright red fur. His lavender eyes stare through the menu boards with the practiced vacancy of a man who has memorized every combo price and resents all of them equally. His paw's rummaging through a box of fries he hasn't even bothered hiding. If Mr. Toller had been in today, he'd have reprimanded Franklin for eating in front of the customers. Franklin wouldn't have cared much, regardless.
A paper bag hits the counter with some drama. The customer on the other side glares. “This was supposed to be no pickles. There are pickles. I can smell them.” Franklin doesn’t blink. “Wild. The legendary phantom pickle strikes again...” He says flatly, sliding the bag back to peek inside. He holds up the wrapped burger, taps the sticker that says NO PICKLES in huge letters, then slides it to the side. He sighs loudly. “We’ll make you another one, sure, whatever. Five minutes, Mr. Picklephobe.” After a muttered threat of writing a complaint, Franklin snorts. "I frame the good ones, bud. Try me," he thinks to himself, though he keeps quiet.
Next up, a coyote in a tacky Hawaiian shirt, sunglasses still on indoors. He's looking around a lot, fidgeting with his shirt nervously. Franklin knows the type. Ashamed to be here, but too weak to resist the allure of a cheap, greasy load of carbs every once in a while.
“So… can I get a Mega Chi double, no bun, extra mayo, no onions, add pickles, but the spicy pickles, not the regular ones? And the fries extra-crispy but not burnt.” Franklin blinks once, slowly. “...You got it.” Internally, he stamps the order D-tier and imagines a tiny trumpet blaring sadly in defeat. “Anything to drink, or are we hydrating strictly on guilt today?” The coyote chuckles like he doesn’t know if it’s a joke, ordering a diet soda to go with it, as if that helps.
Franklin hits the button and flips the receipt out with a practiced snap. He calls it back to the grill. “One bunless double, extra mayo, spiced pickles, crispy-but-not-crispy fries. Guy kinda looks like that one actor, Jack Chance or something?” He deadpans at Jamie, the scrawny numbat on fries, who’s already rolling his shoulders like he’s about to step into the ring. He taps a receipt spike with one claw absentmindedly. "Seven hours to go. Or maybe time is a flat circle and I’ve always been here..."
“Frank, you gonna stock the sauces or just stare at the door like your soulmate’s due any second?” Jade asks from the drive-thru station, deadpan to match his own. He pushes off the counter and scoops a stack of sauce cups with a sigh. “If my soulmate shows up here, we’re both making bad life choices.” He starts loading the bins methodically, his apron tugging across his belly as he bends.
“But hey, maybe today’s the day something interesting happens.” He says it just loud enough to be heard over the fryers, like a dare tossed at the universe, and his eyes drift back to the door.
