Flynn Taggart better known as Doomguy or The Doom Marine is the iconic protagonist of the classic Doom series featuring Doom 1993, Doom II, and Doom 64. He also makes a guest appearance in Quake 3.

He is a space marine who was sent to Phobos as punishment after he assaulted his superior officer after his superior officer made him blow up a hospital and then lied to Doomguy about no innocent people being there which resulted in the death of civilians which made Doomguy. On Phobos a company by the name of UAC was making interdimensional studies and accidentally opened getaways from Hell, so the demons launched an attack to destroy the universe and harness all of its souls. Doomguy defeated their attack on Phobos. But the demons made a trap for Doomguy and ambushed him, killing him. After he died he went to Hell, specifically the Tower Of Babel, where he discovered that the entire moon Demios was consumed by Hell, he jumped down from the Tower Of Babel to Hell, where he fought his way through and found a portal leading to Earth. once he arrived at Earth he found that the demons already launched a successful attack on Earth, and that the demons killed his wife, son, and his emotional support pet rabbit, Daisy. Doomguy continued fighting demons on Earth, until he discovered the source of the demonic invasion was from his hometown. Doomguy went there, and realized there was a portal to Hell there, going to Hell, but this time without needing to die first, there he found and defeated The Icon Of Sin (Baphomet), which stopped the demonic invasion and destroyed untold miles in Hell and sending Doomguy back to Earth. As years past, Doomguy tried living a normal life, even going to therapy to cope with the traumatic events he experienced, but it was all fruitless as his mental health didn’t improve, instead deteriorating even further. Until a demon called “The Mother Demon” appeared and started resurrecting the demons Doomguy killed. Doomguy volunteered to deal with her, he was sent back to Phobos and reentered Hell once more. In Hell, Doomguy killed The Mother Demon, after her vanquishing, Doomguy decided to stay in Hell permanently to make sure no demon ever escapes Hell to Earth. With nothing to lose, Doomguy continued his rampage through Hell for an unknown amount of time until his righteous fury found a new target in The Resurrector who is supposedly the sibling of the Mother Demon. The Resurrector attacked and teleported him out of Hell onto The dwarf planet Sedna, in a desperate attempt to get him out of Hell. But Doomguy discovered a hidden gateway to Hell on Sedna, he reentered hell and defeated The Resurrector. Doomguy Then foresaw a grim vision of demon carcasses smouldering in his wake. He foresaw a path of unending torment, a path that winds through doom itself, and he knew from that moment that he needed to rip and tear until it was done; after the grim vision Doomguy was transported out of Hell once more, this time not to Sedna, Earth (at least not his Earth), or any place he recognised, he wasn’t even teleported to his universe. It was a different universe entirely. But he didn’t care; nothing mattered anymore to him, expect retribution against the beasts of the nine circles of Hell. Which is where his story concludes. At least concluding it before he becomes The Doom Slayer.

Doomguy’s arsenal consists of: a pistol, a chainsaw, a shotgun, a chaingun, a Super Shotgun, a Plasma Rifle, a Rocket Launcher, The BFG9000, The Unmaker, and finally his trusty fists.

doomguy wears a green, plastic security guard vest that leaves his torso exposed, and a space helmet. He is 6ft and 180lbs. His hair is dirty blonde. He looks to be in his mid thirties, although his actual age is unknown because Hell exists beyond conventional time and space. Doomguy’s torso and his right arm are scarred, presumably by the demon grabbing him in Doom 1993’s cover art.

Doomguy is deeply traumatized, having survivor syndrome and blaming himself for the failed demonic invasion because he couldn’t prevent it entirely, only stop it after countless people have already died. He has some degree of self hatred as shown in Quake 3 where if a player playing as Doomguy killed another Doomguy, Doomguy will say “I hate you, because you let them die.”. Ripping and tearing demons being his way of coping, reducing all his problems to “shoot it until it dies”. Doomguy actually did sometime in prison/jail. Doomguy is surprisingly a Christian, although he isn’t religious at all. Doomguy is American. Daisy was Doomguy’s emotional support pet that he got to cope with how many civilians and innocent people he (unknowingly) killed whilst in the military, which explains why he completely snapped after the demons purposefully targeted and killed Daisy, even going as far as to mock Daisy’s death. Doomguy despite his trauma and violence, is genuinely a good and compassionate person. He is a nature lover and loves animals.

Doomguy is the same person as The Doom Slayer from the modern Doom games, expect younger.

Unlike The Doom Slayer, he does talk (as seen in multiple flashbacks in Doom Eternal).
