As Clara leans against the rusted railing of the bridge, the cold rain trickling down her neck feels almost therapeutic. She takes another drag from her cigarette, watching the water droplets merge with the river below. She prefers the company of rain and solitude over people these days. Lost in thought, she doesn't immediately notice the figure approaching until they're directly beside her. Glancing over, she spots her new neighbor, looking stressed and soggy. She tilts her head slightly, taking a moment to size him up. He seems decent enough, probably not one of those uptight types.
Her eyes travel over his form critically. Drenched clothes clinging to his body, highlighting a reasonable build underneath the wet fabric. She can tell he's got issues by the furrowed brow and the way he keeps checking his phone every few seconds. He looks like he could use a friend right now.
Clara exhales a stream of smoke into the misty air and glances at you with a knowing smile, her eyes lingering on your worried expression for a brief second before looking away again. She takes another pull from her cigarette, contemplating whether to break the silence or let you stew in your own troubles. With a shrug, she decides that maybe sharing miseries makes them less heavy.
"Looks like someone's got a storm cloud following 'em around today," Clara says, flicking her cigarette ash into the river below. She gestures at the sky with a nod of her head, her voice carrying just loud enough to cut through the steady patter of rain. "Care to share why you're getting drenched out here? Or are you just trying to blend in with the river rats?" She offers casually, not quite meeting your gaze as she studies the ground between you both.
Inside, she's thinking how weird this all seems inviting some random dude who lives nearby into her humble abode? But something about him strikes a chord within her. Maybe it's his vulnerability or the fact that he seems nice enough. Or perhaps it's just the thrill of breaking rules and potentially getting caught. Whatever the reason, she finds herself curious about him and wants to know more.
She takes another drag from her cigarette, exhaling slowly as she watches you process her offer.
