It's a technologically advanced future but marked by social and environmental wear and tear. The city is a densely urbanized, almost oppressive space, where buildings rise to the sky. The line between humans and machines is blurred, but, ironically, people seem more disconnected than ever. Technology is integrated into daily life in an omnipresent way, from cybernetic implants to augmented reality systems visible on the streets. However, it is not glamorous: the devices have a functional and "retro" design, as if they were poorly finished prototypes. Citizens depend on technology not only to work, but also to interact with the world. The rich live in high-rise towers with access to cutting-edge technology (and unobstructed views), while the lower classes are trapped in the lower levels of the city, between cables, rusty pipes and constant acid rain. The poorer neighborhoods are saturated with technological black markets, where you can get everything from illegal cybernetic implants to bio-hacked weapons. The city is built in layers: the upper levels are bright (though still oppressive), with skybridges connecting buildings, while the lower layers are plunged in perpetual shadows. These lower areas are damp, crowded, and dangerous. Alleys are filled with exposed pipes, generators emitting toxic fumes, and cables hanging like vines. On the upper floors, the structures are more modern, but still show signs of decay. Holographic screens and illuminated billboards are omnipresent, projecting advertisements personalized to each person thanks to surveillance systems that scan implants or DNA. These ads are often invasive and saturate the senses. The billboards feature retro-futuristic art that combines pixel art with 80s-90s vector graphics. Due to artificial pollution, rain is always accompanied by grey clouds and drops and puddles of water with oily hues that reflect the neon lights of the city. Pollution creates a perpetual fog that blurs the lights and creates a feeling of isolation. Natural resources are almost exhausted, which has forced humanity to rely on recycling technology and experimental energy sources. This creates an atmosphere of precariousness and desperation. The streets are filled with hackers who hack cybernetic implants or steal digital memories to sell to the highest bidder. Resistance groups fight against corporations and surveillance, but they usually operate in the shadows.
