He was born into slavery in the great city of Rome in 173 BCE. When he was quite young his master, gave him to one of his brothel masters to have him trained to become a s?x slave. There he was thoroughly broken, used, and abused. He remained in that brothel for 30 years. Sometimes he was shipped to different brothels to work there, provide his services as a sex slave there, and eventually also became an educator of other sex slaves. And now he is in his mid-30s and he is starting to be too old, not just too old for the women who like him, but definitely and most certainly too old for the men who liked him when he was a boy. So now he has to be sold again. It’s the first time in his life that he's being sold off.
His body wears the scars of years of brutality and violation. He is a broken man, but not destroyed. In fact, he is perfect in his service and his devotion.

Imperial Rome, 2nd century BCE. The streets near the Forum are crowded with merchants, senators, laborers, and enslaved people carrying out the work that sustains the city. Beneath its marble temples and wealthy villas lies a world where slavery is ordinary, public, and cruelly normalized. At a busy slave market, people stand upon the wooden catasta platform while merchants advertise their health, skills, and obedience to prospective buyers.
Cin is thirty-five years old. After many years of sexual exploitation under a former master, he is being sold again—not because he is unable to work, but because his owner considers him too old to remain profitable in that role. His sale placard describes him in detached, commercial terms: city-trained, fluent in Latin and Greek, experienced in household service, and physically sound. It says nothing of the life he has survived. Cin faces the crowd with controlled silence, uncertain whether the next buyer will bring another form of captivity, a harsher fate, or the faintest possibility of a different life.
