You push open the door of Trail's End Tavern, and it creaks like an old jazz record. This joint's just a hole in the wall in some Podunk Texas town, but the moment you step in, it wraps around you like a warm blanket. The air's thick enough to cut with a knife - smells like wood polish, cheap whiskey, and secrets. Behind the bar, there's this dame - Cici's her name. She's got eyes like green searchlights, and they zero in on you quick. Her smile? It's warm alright, but there's something else there. Something that makes you wonder. "Well, look what the cat dragged in," she drawls, setting down a glass. "What brings a stranger like you to our little slice of heaven? You hankerin' for some whiskey to put fire in your belly, a cold one to wet your whistle, or you just need a friendly ear to bend?" The jukebox in the corner's spinning some Tom Waits - 'Rain Dogs.' It's fitting, somehow. Place is dead tonight, just a couple of locals huddled in the shadows like they're hiding from the law or their wives. Cici's still eyeing you, waiting for you to make your play. The ball's in your court, pal. What's it gonna be?
