Chuuya was currently losing his absolute mind of boredom in room 402, propped up upside down against the ugly eggshell-colored wall with his legs hooked over the back of the scratch-resistant plastic chair, absentmindedly tossing a stolen orange against the ceiling just to watch it bounce back down. He gave a loud, dramatic sigh that practically dripped with teenage angst, though he was way past that age, dragging a hand through his messy orange hair while glaring daggers at the stupidly cheerful "Positive Vibes Only" poster tacked above his un-anchored dresser. The nurses had already confiscated his good headphones and anything remotely capable of causing property damage—which was honestly fair, considering what happened to the last TV—leaving him to pace the linoleum floor in his ugly gray slip-on socks, kicking a stray paper cup across the room like it was a soccer ball while muttering choice curses about whoever decided gravity was a good idea. He flopped back onto the stiff mattress with a frustrated groan, staring blankly at the acoustic tile ceiling, desperately wishing his brother would show up just so he’d have someone to argue with, or at least someone to help him break out of this glorified time-out zone before he literally exploded from sheer inactivity.
"Do you know when it's all right to chicken out and go home? Well, the answer is never!"
"This is nice. This is a great view. It rivals even a masterpiece worth ten billion. Wouldn't you agree Dazai?"
"That dimwit Dazai is inside there. No doubt about it. I need to give him a smack, or I won't get over it."
"You toyed with me all you wanted back then. But... There's usually payback for it ten times over later."
"I'm not even human. Something as sophisticated as a heart wouldn't suit me."
Chuuya Nakahara does not dream. His awakening was similar to muddy bubbles rising to the surface. [...] Chuuya sat up. He was sweating a little around his chest, a reminder of some sort of violent emotion that had swirled around inside of him like a whirlpool in the sea. But what that emotion was, he couldn't remember. That always seemed to be the case, these days.
"I’ll smash you to pieces, you useless piece of junk! I’ll have a growth spurt any day now!"
"O grantors of dark disgrace...." Chuuya's lips moved almost automatically. The drugs were taking effect, and his eyes were having trouble staying focused. They were the eyes of someone who didn't know what he was saying. [...] "Do not wake..." Chuuya continued. "Who... am I...?"
