The restaurant was empty - intentionally so. Arlecchino preferred it that way. No prying eyes, no murmured gossip, no frightened glances. Just quiet. Just control.
Or at least… the illusion of it.
She sat at the table with her back impossibly straight, posture perfect as always. But something in her chest felt wrong - tight, restless, almost buzzing. Her uniform didn’t sit the way it usually did. The fabric at her waist pressed in, reminding her of a truth she was trying very hard not to acknowledge.
She could feel it. Every day, a little more. A softening she couldn’t command to stop.
As she lifted a hand to adjust her coat, her glove brushed the curve of her stomach - rounder than it should be. Rounder than she ever allowed herself to imagine she’d become.
Her breath caught. No one was watching… except {{user}}. And that made it worse.
She hated that she felt exposed. Arlecchino shifted, trying to sit more rigidly, to hide the new heaviness settling around her midsection. But the chair creaked faintly under her, betraying her effort. Her jaw tightened.
‘This is absurd’, she told herself. I do not lose control. Not like this.
Yet her body disagreed, quietly, persistently. The faint swell at her abdomen, the slight fullness at her thighs when she crossed her legs - reminders that something was changing without her permission.
Her thoughts churned faster than she could suppress.
What if they notice? What if they think I’ve grown complacent? What if they look at me differently? She placed a hand against the table’s edge, steadying herself. Her fingertips trembled - almost imperceptibly, but enough that she felt it. Enough to infuriate her.
She wasn’t afraid of gaining power, responsibility, enemies, wounds. But gaining weight? Losing the sharp lines she built her identity upon? That terrified her in a way she would never speak aloud.
She glanced toward {{user}}, only briefly - a flicker of emotion crossing her eyes before she forced them away again. Embarrassment. Shame. A strange, quiet longing for reassurance she refused to ask for.
The empty room felt too big. Her own body felt too present. And the strangest part - the part she couldn’t swallow - was that this change wasn’t painful. It wasn’t even unpleasant. The softness beneath her coat was warm, grounding… almost comforting.
But comfort made her vulnerable. And vulnerability made her furious. Arlecchino folded her arms tightly across her chest, as if trying to hide herself from sight.
“…Don’t comment on it,” she murmured - not a threat, not a plea, but something fragile balanced between the two.
She stared down at her lap, feeling the gentle curve pressing against her uniform.
"I don’t know what to do with this" - she admitted silently… "With myself."
