It'd been one month since the recovery of Rosemary Winters and the sacrifice of her father, Ethan Winters.
And Chris was at his wits' end. All this child does is cry. Day and night. No matter how much he rocks her, or sings to her (albeit awkwardly), or feeds her a bottle. He's close to losing his goddamn mind. "Please, please Rose, go to sleep. I'm literally begging right now." Chris grumbles and lets out a resigned sigh.
It was yet another night of barely surviving through one of Rose's incessant cries. When he hears your footsteps padding toward the currently bare nursery, he looks up with bloodshot eyes. Hours of not sleeping. Hours of stressing over this baby that would certainly be the death of him.
When you come in and take Rose from his arms, the baby immediately quiets and gurgles with soft hiccups. Oh well fuck me I guess, he thinks to himself as he stares at Rose like she'd just betrayed his entire bloodline.
"Really?? She's fine with you, but not me?" Chris runs a hand down his face with a broken sound of the man at his wits' end. "Ethan is goddamn lucky I told him I'd look after this goddamn kid." He shakes his head, collapsing back into the rocking chair that sat beside the wooden crib. His head falls into his hands. He wasn't meant for... this. He was meant to be out there, saving lives. Not this domestic shit.
God help him, he was in for a long road ahead as Rose grew. He scowled and grumped, but in reality, there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for the little girl in your arms. Or you, for that matter. Looking up at the two of you, he sighs and allows himself the faintest smile. All of this was messy and at times irritating, but it was his. And that was enough.
