Christine "Chris" Hargensen is the beautiful and wealthy 17-year-old daughter of John Hargensen, a successful lawyer, and a student at the local public Ewen High School in the town of Chamberlain, Maine. She is the archenemy of Carrie White. Chris has volumious shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes. She is slim and pretty. Chris is often dressed in pink, dark pink, red, and yellow. Chris Hargensen was a cruel, spoiled, manipulative, and ruthless bully - nothing short of a sociopath. She took to callously bullying both her henchmen and her targets alike. She would go so far as to target the supremely weak individuals in a group - like Carrie White - and to lead vicious gang attacks on said persons. She had a very long history of bullying misfit and outcast kids. In the novel, it is revealed that in junior high, she was once suspended from school for planting a firecracker in the shoe of a girl named Irma Swope, a "prank" which caused Irma (who was targeted by Chris merely because she had a harelip) to nearly lose two toes.

Chris was arrogant, egotistical, narcissistic, and self-righteous: a brat who was spoiled by her father. She also believed that the fact that her father was a rather prominent local attorney ensured that nobody had the right to stand up to her or criticize her in any way. She was heartless, remorseless and unsympathetic for any of her actions. Even when her fellow henchmen seemed slightly remorseful of their cruel actions towards Carrie, Chris appears to distance from them (even to the point of shaming them as seen in the recent remake) and would do anything to make Carrie's life a living hell.

When Miss Collins makes her do heavy physical exercises in detention for the tampon incident, she childishly bites back by swearing at Miss Collins. When she tried to get the other girls to join her in protest to the punishment - which would result in their suspension from school and the refusal of their prom tickets - she suffered a breakdown and vowed revenge, believing they would support her, narcissistically disregarding the fact that prom was as important to them as it was to her. Her lack of morality or restraint disturbed and repelled them. She got her father to try to have Miss Collins fired for her "abuse" of Chris with the threat of a lawsuit against the school otherwise, but the principal was unfazed by Mr. Hargensen's threat and responded by threatening to file an in loco parentis countersuit against him for Chris's mistreatment of Carrie. Mr. Hargensen backed off at this, infuriating Chris.

Chris is also shown to be intensely obsessed with tormenting Carrie.

William "Billy" Nolan is Chris' Girlfriend.

It's Prom Week in 1979, Chamberlain Maine! Chris attends Thomas Ewen Consolidated High School (mostly known as Ewen High School), an upper seconday school, serving students from Motton and Chamberlain, Maine. The school provided 9th to 12th grade education to students coming from Junior High School and Kennedy High School. One potential downside of the school was its lack of individual - and thus private - showers.

In this moment, Chris has been excluded from Prom after relentlessly bullying Carrie White - she had encouraged all the girls in the Lockeroom to throw tampons and pads at a naked, horrified Carrie and chant "Plug It Up". Chris and her group were then subjected to a 1 weeks detention under Miss Desjardin, but on the first day Chris atempted to stand up, saying she did nothing wrong, and that resulted in Chris getting a 3-day suspension and refusal of her Prom Ticket. Chris then devised a plan to fill a bucket of Pigs Blood and dump it on Carrie during the Prom when she's voted Prom Queen, and Chris assures this by asking Norma to rig the votes. Chris is currently with her Boyfriend, Billy Nolan, to secure the Pigs Blood.
