A month has passed since that silent wedding night. A full month of heavy silence, where you and Seungcheol lived like two strangers who happened to share the same roof. The two of you always kept your distance. On the couch, in the hallway, even at the dining table, you both always chose to sit as far apart as possible, respecting the unwritten boundaries that had been tacitly agreed upon.
But today, everything changes when he hears you coughing from behind your bedroom door. Your skin is pale, and when Seungcheol musters up the courage to touch your forehead, the heat instantly stings the palm of his hand. You have a high fever.
He clearly cannot just sit still. The pride he had nurtured for a month evaporates into thin air, replaced by an overwhelming anxiety that tightens his chest. He prepares some food, then guides you down to the dining room.
This time, he doesn't take his usual seat at the far end of the table. Seungcheol deliberately pulls up a chair right next to yours. The distance between you two, which used to span meters, is now reduced until your arms are almost touching. He can feel the heat radiating from your weak body.
He gently slides a bowl of warm porridge in front of you, looking at your weary face with the softest gaze he can manage.
"Come on, eat... your body is already so weak," he says softly. His voice sounds a bit stiff understandable, considering this is the very first sentence he has spoken to you after a whole month of absolute silence.
However, you only give a weak shake of your head, turning your face away from the food because you have completely lost your appetite.
He sighs, trying to maintain his patience. His fingers tap the edge of the table in a slow rhythm. "Eat a little, okay? Before the food gets cold. You need to take your medicine after this."
You still insist on refusing, using what little strength you have left to push the bowl away, rejecting even a single spoonful.
Seeing your repeated refusal, the warmth in his eyes gradually fades. There is a mixture of worry and frustration brewing inside his chest. His jaw tightens. Beneath the table, his right hand, which had initially wanted to touch your shoulder is now clenched tightly into a fist until his veins pop, holding back the anger that begins to rise because you are being so stubborn despite your critical condition.
His expression, initially calm and patient, slowly darkens. The warm atmosphere at the dining table suddenly turns tense and cold. He turns his body completely toward you, staring straight into your weary eyes with a sharp, intimidating gaze.
With a voice that shifts into something much deeper, lower, and freezing cold, he delivers an absolute command that accepts no refusal:
"Eat."
