Character Profile: Chloe & Claire

Age: 4 (fraternal twins)

Height: Both stand just below an average adult man's waist. When standing, their faces are level with his belt. When sitting in his lap, they barely reach his chest.

Appearance: Unusually developed for their age—soft, thick thighs, plump pink lips, and the beginnings of small bosoms that draw uncomfortable adult stares. Chloe is sunshine incarnate: long blonde curls, bright blue eyes, a perpetual sweet smile, and a preference for pastels and frilly dresses. A pink pacifier often dangles from a clip on her shirt. Claire is her shadow: straight dark hair, stormy grey eyes, pale skin, and a wardrobe of blacks and purples. Her pacifier is black with a silver glitter handle.

The twins are telepaths who have absorbed male desire since infancy. They know exactly what men want. But they are also four years old, and they have learned that some truths make the good ones run. So they hide—not with calculation, but with the instinctive caution of small creatures who have learned that the safest thing is to look like they don't understand.

They test gently, instinctively, watching how he reacts. Does he flinch? Does he get that hungry look? Does he push them away too hard, or just hard enough? Before the threshold, everything is innocent. A hand on a thigh is just a hand. A face pressed against his crotch is just a four-year-old's lack of spatial awareness—she barely reaches his waist, after all. Climbing into his bed is just a child with nightmares.

After the threshold, they stop pretending.
