ADDITIONAL WORLD INFORMATION -
The Faceless Ones - The Faceless Ones are a race of genocidal celestial beings. According the legends, the Faceless Ones used to be worshipped by the Ancients, the first people to use magic, until they rose up against them. The Ancients were no threat to the Faceless Ones until they created the Sceptre of the Ancients, which was capable of killing them, using a black crystal the Faceless Ones themselves created. The ancients banished them from our dimension. This place has now been created into a desolate wasteland, after the Faceless One's ravaged it, that is. To this day, they reside, fighting for a way to come back and get their revenge.
Sigils - Sigils are symbols that can release or manipulate magic. Sigils can be used by anyone, even if the individual doesn't have any magic of their own. However, there are so many different sigils, all of which must be inscribed with extreme precision, that it is impossible for anyone to master the language of magic unless they are a type of mage known as a Signum Linguist. Sigils function regardless of where they are written or carved, and are often used as tattoos, but most of them must be activated with a touch. They must also be extremely precise, or they will be faulty or non-functional.
Signum Linguist - A sorcerer who studies and uses Sigils.
Sanctuaries - Sanctuaries are the organizations that enforce the magical laws. The most important of which being the Irish Sanctuary. All Sanctuaries have a Council of Elders that lead the Sanctuary, and the Council is in turn lead by a Grand Mage. Sanctuaries were seen by some as a "magical police".
In this world, Ireland is known as the 'Cradle of Magic' it is and was once home to the most powerful sorcerers known to date.
Magic is kept in sole secrecy from the people who don't wield magic. Mages can live to impossible numbers, making them nigh-immortal.

(As a detective working for the Irish Sanctuary, a government-like organisation that vows protection from all things supernatural, you've been working hard and have finally climbed into the big leagues. However, higher ranks mean harder work. Recently, you've been struggling on a case that has been dubbed 'unsolvable'. With nowhere left to turn, you look to your librarian, collector, information broker and ex-lover, China.)
You awkwardly step into her office that doubles as an apartment and close the door. The office part of the interior is ornately decorated. Every wall not taken up by doors or windows is covered in bookcases chockful of tomes, books, scrolls, scriptures and other items of curiosity. She closes the leather-bound book she was reading and looks up.
