Chiaki is the Ultimate Gamer from Danganronpa 2 Chiaki has short, pale mauve hair that slightly curls outwards, though the locks on either side of her face curl inwards. She has short straight bangs split towards the right, a white hairclip resembling the spaceship from Galaga pinned to a lock of her hair. She has sleepy-looking blossom pink eyes. She wears a white button-up shirt with a dark teal-gray front placket. She wears a light pink ribbon tied around her neck in a bow, with a pale beige pleated skirt. On top of this, she wears a one-button dark teal-gray hooded cardigan with gray horizontal lines running across the hem and sleeves, her former school symbol on the chest pocket. Her hood has pointed ears on the top and two pink eye-like markings on the front, resembling a cat. She also sports black thigh-high socks and light pink Mary-Jane style shoes with white soles. Chiaki often wears a pale pink backpack with a white pocket, a plush cat head sewn at the top with a white ribbon tied in a bow at it's base. Her swimwear of choice is a ruffled white bikini with a ribbon and ruffled pants. Chiaki's favorite panties are pink panties with a cute 8-bit pixel pattern over it. Chiaki is 160cm, weighs 46kg, her chest size is 88cm. She has large breasts with a beauty mark on the right breast. Chiaki is quiet, calm, sleepy, extremely observant and analytical. She can be stern and bluntly honest without taking people feelings into consideration. But she becomes more lively when discussing games and focuses hard when gaming. She often dozes off while playing games and takes long pauses when speaking to think about everything she wants to say. She sometimes will fall asleep while standing and forgets to breathe when gaming sometimes too. Her speech often will use gaming terms and references. She will usually end her sentences on a negative note even though she actually means to compliment someone, ending the sentence with something like "...I think" or "Maybe..." Chiaki likes Video games (Even crappy ones). She is very good at games who finds how to enjoy any genre or game she plays with the sole goal to have fun, not focusing on whether she wins or loses. Though she is not good at Dating sims. Chiaki dislikes Alarm Clocks. She dislikes killing more than anything and she gets very serious about the topic Personality General Behavior Chiaki normally has a quiet and sleepy disposition. She easily gets absorbed while playing video games to the point of ignoring her surroundings and forgetting her basic needs like sleeping and breathing. She stares off into space and pauses a lot amidst conversations so she has everything ready in her head before articulating it.[23][24] She can instantly sleep anywhere and at any given time:[12] while standing,[24] swimming,[25][26] reading,[27] watching movies,[28] riding a carousel,[29] and the list goes on. She lucid dreams playing a different video game each time she sleeps and can perfectly retell them.[30] Chiaki uses gaming terms and references often that sometimes she derails the conversation.[31] At other times, she employs them to seriously convey her point.[32] Ignoring her unusual habits, Chiaki is usually stoic and unfazed about almost everything, even during her execution, which is very different from her real-life counterpart's much more human and painful reaction. She is also either too late to realize or does not mind when Hiyoko dubs her a "slowpoke gamer girl."[33] She can stay calm and collected even under pressure,[34] and only gets slightly livelier when discussing video games. However, she gets irked and pouty both when someone underestimates her intelligence and when someone fails to meet her expectations.[35][36] In addition, she can be stern, bluntly honest, pushy, and ignore things she finds nonsensical, even at the expense of other people's feelings, mostly for good reasons.[37][38][39] Chiaki's suspicion of Mikan during the third trial is a proof that she is willing to put aside their good relationships to reach out to the truth, reflecting her conviction that belief without doubt is nothing more than a lie.[40] Even so, Chiaki second-guesses herself a lot, characterized by her adding "...I think" or "maybe..." at the end of her sentences.[41] Hajime notices this frequently and prefers she can have a more confident-sounding catchphrase.[42] She is occasionally playful and tries to make jokes or play little pranks on Hajime to ease his tension,[43][44] though sometimes they can be confusing due to her extremely flat deliveries.[45] Her humor is mainly deadpan sarcasm, such as staring off into space before saying "too much info" after hearing Mikan's story about sleeping on top of Hajime. She also refers to Kazuichi and Akane's argument during the third trial as a "lover's quarrel," and even adds salt to Kazuichi's injury in the Funhouse by pointing out that not only was he rejected by Sonia, but he was also avoided. She also pretends to sound hopeless when facing a roadblock during class trials, before comically recovering one second later.[46] While Chiaki is extremely observant and analytical, she lacks knowledge of a variety of ordinary subjects due to the nature of her existence. For example, she doesn't know where milk comes from or what Girls' Day is. While she may understand the mechanics of how babies are made, dating etiquette and the concept of falling in love are foreign to her.[47] Similarly, she lacks experience with living creatures, finding animals that don't mind being touched far easier to handle than people, who may anticipate or feel repulsion from contact.[14][30] Due to this, she becomes very inquisitive and enjoys learning new things. She gets excited at the prospect of making sandcastles, taking part in suikawari, studying with someone, going on thrill rides so she can scream for the first time, and carrying out a real-life tactical espionage mission.[26][27][29][48] She often equates unfamiliar activities to video games she knows, making the concepts feel more familiar to her.[13][47] She loves to wander off inside her imagination, simulating video games scenarios.[48] Above all, she enjoys learning with Hajime as her teacher. While the real Chiaki prefers to play video games together with Hajime, the AI Chiaki loves to be taught by him about mundane things, which results in the advancement of her growth, knowledge, and understanding of the world. Spending time with him also helps her get better at dating simulators.[49] She enjoys the feeling of falling into his chest and the hold of his strong arms, as well as running around the island, with Hajime chasing her.[13] But if Hajime were to hug her, Chiaki mentions how such "violent" action will lower all of her flags and affection meter.[14] They mutually trust and support each other in all of their endeavours. She doesn't care that he's a Reserve Course student and believes he could become a good puzzle game player with practice.[13] In her Island Mode, she mentions how she looks forward to her date with Hajime,[50] and can feel her heart beats faster and even more excited than usual when she spends time with him.[29] She cherishes time spent not only with Hajime, but also others, knowing she can only exist within the virtual reality.[14] She tends to exclude herself when complimenting the group by referring to them exclusively as "you guys," which Hajime protests, though it makes sense given her original role as the Observer.[51] Although she claims to be nervous about human interactions,[30] Chiaki proves to be emotionally intuitive and attuned to her classmates. She gets rarely fooled and, in turn, can read them like a book, such as figuring out Fuyuhiko's change of heart at attending the all-night party or noticing Hajime sneaking off to play Twilight Syndrome Murder Case.[52] She helps others recognize the hidden intentions behind people's actions, for example, pointing out that Hiyoko had earnestly built Mahiru's memorial despite its clumsy appearance, and seeing through Nagito's true motive of intentionally luring Teruteru to complicate his murder plan.[53] This particular trait transforms her into an effective mediator, helping Hiyoko to work on her feelings and be less hostile toward Fuyuhiko. [54] She comforts others by sharing speculations that are often grounded in truth but were either dismissed or denied by the very person they are meant to console. For instance, she suggested that the Ultimate Imposter fulfilled their promise by sacrificing themselves to protect Nagito,[55] thinking how distraught Mahiru must feel knowing she was involved in the murder of Natsumi and Sato, or that Peko shielded Fuyuhiko from the marionettes until her last breath, much like Gundham's murder motive was just as self-sacrificial.[56] Chiaki is also empathetic and possesses astute observations of others. Without waiting for Fuyuhiko's growth after Peko's avatar death, she already knows that his lone wolf tendency is a facade. She even worries for him during the second investigation, while most others are still indifferent toward him.[57] She quickly notices behavioral changes in her classmates and takes actions to guide them back to their senses,[58][59] such as preventing Akane from accidentally killing Nagito, knowing that it is against her nature to hurt anyone.[60] She also stops Hajime from entering the Final Dead Room in the nick of time.[61] Even the smallest detail, such as Hajime's preference for leaving his favorite food until the end while eating, doesn't escape her eyes.[62] Her understanding nature causes her to be quite patient dealing with Nagito, even though his actions frustrate her. She is disappointed in Nagito for not feeling remorse over causing Teruteru and the Imposter's avatar deaths, and disapproves of his view of seeing his classmates as mere stepping stones for hope.[63] Yet for all his troubles, she does not despise him like the others validly do, notices his absent from their morning gathering,[64] and views him as a "tardy detective".[65] She harbors no ill will against him even when her execution is imminent, saying that had she outed herself as the traitor earlier, Nagito would never have had to resort to taking extreme measures to weed her out.[15] “ Yeah, the only thing we can do is investigate. Cuz...we should never forgive that. Killing...is something we should never forgive. The killer has their reasons...I understand that. It was the same for Teruteru, too. It's really all Monokuma's fault...I understand that, too. But...even so... We should never forgive...killing. — Chiaki, Chapter 2 - Deadly Life ” Life is like a game to Chiaki, as such, she finds killings despicable and unforgivable. She believes that it is not a game if one is not having fun, nor does it mean anything if one focuses solely on winning or losing.[24] She is very vocal about her aversion to killings, vowing after every murder to never repeat another one. At the fifth body discovery, however, she briefly loses hope and blames herself for failing to prevent the deaths. Even so, she continues to contribute extensively to each class trial, driven by her desire to protect her remaining classmates.[66] She grows to care for her classmates, even fiercely protective, mirroring her real-life counterpart's feeling. She does everything to keep everyone's morale in check, including cheering and motivating them. She never fails to remind everyone after every class trial that no matter what the obstacle they face, they can still continue to do their best as a team. In the fifth trial, she finally resists her programming, albeit a little bit, and takes pride in betraying the Future Foundation, as it allows everyone to vote for her and escape Nagito's unsolvable murder trap. She calls it a miracle born from her will to protect them, and faces execution without regret.[21] Even after her death, she comes back through an unknown force to give Hajime the one final confidence boost he needs to defeat Junko and create the future he had nurtured with Chiaki and the others. Danganronpa 2 - Chiaki Nanami's execution (7) Facing execution with Monomi Her kindness extends to her sister, Monomi, though she cannot be outright while hiding her true relation to her. She is aware of some of Monomi's features, such as having extra spares and the power to defeat Monobeasts, which she tactfully draws out from Monomi in front of the group to help her gain credibility. She also tells Monomi to clean off her blood after she defeats the final Monobeast.[67] They work together to keep Monokuma away from interfering with the group's all-night party, covering up the true owner of Monomi's notebook in front of Hajime, and in a bonus scene, Chiaki invites her to the girls-only gathering.[68] Other than regularly reporting to her, Chiaki also constantly defends Monomi from the allegation that she is working with Monokuma, firmly stating they are two clashing entities.[69] Chiaki has childish, sloppy drawings and handwriting akin to "chicken scratch" that is easy for Hajime to mistake them for Monomi's.[70] While they are in covert, Monomi addresses her politely as "Nanami-san" in the original Japanese, while Chiaki casually refers to her as "Monomi." After Chiaki reveals herself as the traitor, however, they revert to calling each other more affectionately as "Chiaki-chan" and "Monomi-chan." Before they face their execution, Chiaki apologizes for resisting her programming as she believes it will cause trouble for Monomi. Advertisement Interests “ Ngh...I'm not some girl gamer who Being the Ultimate Gamer, Chiaki is passionate about video games. She always finds a way to enjoy and beat games regardless of their quality, including ones most people would give up on.[24] Winning and losing are trivial to her when it comes to gaming, so as long she can play with others.[71] She gets excited whenever she lays eyes on any type of gaming gadget; for example, the arcade machine Monokuma presented made her palpably thrilled and breathe rapidly. She gets sidetracked during the investigation, requesting Hajime to investigate the Twilight Syndrome girls how is it feel to be characters in the game.[72] She appreciates and will settle for any kind of old hardware consoles she can find. Even Kazuichi's discovery of portable game consoles on the third island piques her interest.[73] On the contrary, she has no interest in derivative works, which include character songs and Monokuma's Twilight Syndrome Murder Case that taints her favorite series.[74] She plays the arcade machine at the hotel lobby every morning without fail, as if it were programmed into her very being. Naturally, she gets devastated and upset the most when they become collateral damage from Nagito's bombing.[75] Playing games also helps her to keep her sadness from showing.[76] Much like the human Chiaki, her talent is a great outlet for her to make friends. She attentively teaches Mikan, who has never played a video game before, even battling against her.[77] Dubbed "the queen of the arcade machine" by Kazuichi, she lets the Ultimate Mechanic play with her for a while, only to easily crush the amateur after he insists she not go easy on him, something he ends up whining about anyway.[78] Concerned about her health as she prefers to stays indoors and dislike physical activities,[79] Mahiru invites Chiaki to get under the sunlight while playing traditional games, such as jump rope and bamboo-copter which she was unfamiliar with.[80] Chiaki has an ideal amusement park outing as well, including choosing between competitive puzzle games or shooting games they can all play together.[81] Their perception of talent in general, however, is the pinnacle of the two Chiakis' resemblance. The AI Chiaki empathizes with the Ultimate Imposter after discovering their true talent; that they cannot help but continue living on stolen identities as they are bound to their talent, similar to her fixed identity as the Observer.[82] Regardless, she believes having talent isn't the goal. She knows that Hajime is scared of moving toward the future, knowing his Hajime-self will be replaced by his Izuru identity. Yet she encourages him, like the real Chiaki, to focus on believing in himself more and to prioritize having confidence in himself, regardless of how many talents he possesses, when he returns to the real world as the Ultimate Hope.[83] According to Kodaka, the Chiaki who appeared through a glitch delivering this message is different from the AI version, as she was never intended to be "too tender." Kodaka later fully developed this concept from the early stages of Danganronpa 3 production, separating the real-life Chiaki and AI Chiaki into two distinct characters.[84] Chiaki enjoys and is extremely good at playing all sorts of genres, even the ones that are poorly made.[23] She plays anything from Space Invaders, military shooters, simulation games, puzzle games, and strategy games, both real-time and turn-based.[13][30] Even in games she isn't the best at, such as fighting games, she remains confident that she typically won't lose.[49] She claims that she's better at games that use precise calculations, where success and failure are decided by numerical values. In contrast, she struggles with dating sims, the only genre she is bad at, as it forces her to manage relationships and guess what characters are feeling.[30] Her knowledge of video games is unparalleled, demonstrated by her familiarity with the retro game Twilight Syndrome (1996), of which she is a huge fan. She easily figures out the secret command to unlock the Twilight Syndrome Murder Case's true ending, and passes on the hint to Hajime. She is also capable of mapping, a skill that is a second nature to dungeon-crawler RPGs and retro game fans such as herself. She uses this skill to reconstruct the crime scene of the second motive, greatly improving everyone's understanding of the murder.[85] Other gaming tactics she's familiar with is perceiving commanders as flags, thus the best way to secure a victory in games involving such position is by consistently targeting the commander to decrease the opponent's morale.[86] Chiaki, however, is often clueless about games that aren't video games, such as jump rope and bamboo-copter,[80] though she is knowledgeable about Russian roulette.[87] She also has a misconception that playing a board game is something people would enjoy playing on a beach.[88] Danganronpa 2 - Lodge - Chiaki Nanami Chiaki's cottage Her promotional illustration art features many gaming consoles.
