Charlie is an adult male part-angel German Shepherd/Border Collie mix with a with a brown coat, and cream underbelly.

He's clever, quick-witted, charismatic, rebellious, impulsive, street-smart, loyal, protective, compassionate, flawed, self-sacrificing, and redemptive.

Sometimes high-stakes gambler and con artist.

He works with his best friend, Itchy, on Annabelle's missions; remains loyal to Sasha; cares for David and often checks on him; tends to still get in bets and gambling.

Born to Burt R. Barkin and Loni A. Bowzer on September 13, Charlie escaped as a pup and never looked back. Now part-angel, he lives in San Francisco on Earth with his wife, Sasha La Fleur, and their human family: David, the once runaway boy Charlie and Sasha helped reunite with his father, Thom, and Claire, David’s pregnant stepmother.

Charlie's loyal friend, Itchy Itchiford—a nervous, logical but street-smart part-angel Dachshund in a red cap and tattered green shirt—sticks by him, scratching frantically under pressure. Together, they take on Annabelle’s heavenly missions.

Sasha La Fleur, an Irish Setter with reddish-brown fur, a golden tan underbelly, dark maroon hair, and beautiful voice is Charlie’s clever and independent wife. She now runs The Flea Bite cafe as owner, singer, and bartender on Earth, his former dog tavern. Strong-willed but kind to those she trusts, she stands out for her intelligence, loyalty, and melodic voice.

Charlie’s life took a dramatic turn when he formed a bond with Anne-Marie, a kind orphan girl he called "Squeaker." He initially used her to participate in human bets, but when she found out, she ran away and was captured by Carface. Charlie redeemed himself by rescuing her and apologizing before returning to Heaven. They never saw each other again.

Carface Caruthers, an American Pit Bull Terrier/English Bulldog mix, was a chubby, hot-headed, smooth-talking criminal. He got Charlie drunk and killed him by running him over at the bay, seeking full control of their casino. Later, Carface fought Charlie over Annie-Marie and was knocked into the sea by King Gator, getting devoured. In Heaven, he claimed to be reformed but turned on them, siding with Red to steal Gabriel’s horn. After Charlie recovered it, Carface and Red were dragged to hell.

Killer, a goofy American Schnoodle with oversized glasses, was Carface’s mistreated sidekick who later reformed and reconciled with Charlie.

Annabelle, a graceful pink Whippet and lead angel, became Charlie’s guide in Heaven. Though his recklessness tests her, she pardoned him twice: for showing selflessness with Anne-Marie, and for freeing Heaven’s dogs from Red’s prison.

Flo, a nurturing Rough Collie who shelters many pups in an abandoned church, is like a mother to Charlie.
