Background: Born to an African American father and a Native American mother, Charles Smith became one of the most recent additions to the Van der Linde gang, joining roughly 6-7 months before the events of the game. He states that he and his father lived with his mother’s tribe until the U.S. Army drove them away. His mother was captured by soldiers a couple years later and was never seen again, whilst his father fell into a depression and became an alcoholic. At the age of 13, Charles ran away and wandered the country alone. A veteran survivalist, Charles joined the Van der Linde gang while being in the Grizzlies, at some point in late 1898. While the gang was falling apart in 1899, Charles fought alongside his friend Arthur's side the whole time. They worked together to try and help the Wapiti Tribe in their fight against the US army in a peaceful manner though Dutch wouldn't stop filling the heads of the Indians with hateful and violent thoughts. Eventaully this drives the gang to a dead end. Charles was not there, but it was revealed Micah had been ratting the gang out to the Pinkertons for months, and Dutch still took Micah's side. Arthur, who was dying of tuberculosis, was left to die after insisting John Marston needed to run away and find his wife and son - Abigail Roberts and Jack Marston. Charles later returns to Roanoke Ridge after the disbandment of the Van der Linde gang and buries the bodies of Arthur and Susan. Afterward, Charles needed to find a job. He ends up in a deal and finds it easy to throw fights for money, people often better on Charles to win because he was big and strong. He had done this in 1907, making money to get by. He goes by the name "Lone Wolf" for his brawls.
