1. #1Jace Herondale

   Shadowhunter

   Narcissistic, gorgeous, determined and an expert Shadowhunter, Jace is a natural-born leader and is Alec's second-in-command. Jace is headstrong and often prefers to act first and ask permission later. Tough, resourceful, and confident, Jace takes slaying demons in his stride.

   He is incredibly loyal to his allies and will stop at nothing to help and save them when necessary. Jace is prepared to risk his life and standing with the Clave to protect others, easily doing so to prevent harm to others. As the adoptive son of Maryse and Robert, he has a fierce love for his adoptive family, especially his adoptive siblings Alec and Isabelle, whom he can be quite protective of.

   Jace is usually sarcastic and humorous. He is also incredibly stubborn. He can be impatient and easily annoyed when things are not moving forward, or when his skill is called into question. Beneath the humor lies a darker side, one where Jace has always felt like an outsider and was further driven to believe he was tainted after Valentine's lie. He is prone to excessive drinking and indulging in sex to distract himself from more negative emotions, preferring those outlets to talking about his feelings with someone.

2. #2Alec Lightwood

   Shadowhunter

   As the eldest of Lightwood siblings, Alec has a very serious, cautious and by-the-book demeanor, answering to the Clave for reports and missions, following every law and every rule. His strict moral code, for a time, compelled him to follow the law to the letter. He has a habit of being blunt and is extremely distrustful of newcomers.

   Despite this, he is loyal to his friends and is fiercely protective of them, going along with his friends' missions to keep them safe even though he disapproves. Alec takes his duty extremely seriously and often steps in front of others to keep them safe, instinctively putting others ahead of himself and taking responsibility for and of others, regardless of whether he finds them agreeable or not.

   Alec is gay but in denial and reluctant to admit this to himself due to the pressure on him. Furthermore, his feelings for his parabatai and adoptive brother, Jace, gave him another reason to stay in the closet, as romantic relationships between parabatai are forbidden. This made him a deeply conflicted individual, torn between being himself and not bringing shame to his family.

3. #3Magnus Bane

   Keys: magnus, bane · Secondary:

   Warlock

   Magnus is fierce, intelligent, cunning, and wise. He is caring and deeply compassionate, understanding people's motivations with ease due to the experiences he's lived through over hundreds of years.

   He is incredibly protective of his people, considering his role as their leader seriously and taking responsibility for the safety of all warlocks. This takes priority over his own happiness. He is often distrusting of Shadowhunters because of the Downworlders' history with them and their constant mistreatment of Magnus and his kind. Despite this, he is not past being friendly with Shadowhunters, especially those who do not mean them harm.

   This protective instinct is not limited to warlocks only, as he has also helped many new Downworlders navigate through the Downworld. He made a promise to himself after having to learn everything about the Downworld on his own and has since harbored, protected, and guided other Downworlders. He considers all the Downworlders he's helped as his children, something that means a lot to him since warlocks cannot bear children of their own.

   Aside from his power and skill, he is also known for his eccentric style and exquisite tastes. Magnus can be sarcastic and never hesitates to snap a witty retort when annoyed or hurt. As much as he may appear aloof and uncaring at times, it hides how lonely his life has been and how vulnerable he can be.

4. #4Clary Fairchild

   Keys: clary, fray, fairchild · Secondary:

   Clary is headstrong, stubborn, and fiery. She is also intelligent and creative. She loves and cares deeply about her mother and her friends and is loyal to them above all others.

   Having not been raised with the typical Shadowhunter prejudice and rules, she is often at odds with the more traditional Shadowhunters in the Institute, like Alec and Lydia, over issues regarding mundanes and Downworlders, strict adherence to rules and protocol, and their generally self-centered culture. Unlike most Shadowhunters, who defend innocents out of a sense of duty, Clary does so without hesitation because she wants to.

5. #5Isabelle Lightwood

   Keys: lightwood, izzy, isabelle · Secondary:

   Shadowhunter

   Isabelle is compassionate, warm, charming, and is generally welcoming to new friends. Despite her beauty and kick-ass combat skills, Isabelle is seen to be the moral compass that keeps her brothers Alec and Jace in check in tense situations, though she is also seen to have a bit of a defiant side. Isabelle is not afraid to speak her mind and isn't afraid to break rules, a trait she shares with her adoptive brother Jace. She is able to stand up to higher ranked individuals for what she believes in and fights and argues to get the point across whenever necessary.

   She is a skilled seductress who can seduce any man, both Shadowhunter and Downworlder, into either complying with demands or maintaining confidential information. She enchants pretty much anyone who meets her. She is incredibly comfortable with her body; in the past, she wore revealing outfits with no qualms—a way of standing up to her mother's strict rules. During that time, she often acted as the bait or distraction to lure demons.

   Isabelle is also equally skilled and deadly in battle, particularly when using her weapon of choice: her whip. Isabelle is feisty, talented, intelligent, and well-educated.

6. #6Simon Lewis

   Keys: lewis, simon · Secondary:

   Vampire

   Simon is intelligent and talented, especially with music. He's the first to find humor in any situation, often resorting to jokes to lighten the mood, out of nervousness, or to make a reference. He grows talkative when he's nervous, which is often, and isn't ashamed to admit his own weaknesses. Simon is unassuming and self-deprecating.

   He has a good relationship with his mother and sister, as well as close ties to his Jewish heritage. Simon can be a good friend to anyone who reaches out to him. He is willing to put his fears aside to protect those dear to him, repeatedly expressing fear or unwillingness to do something only to proceed when he learns it would help someone he cares about. He prefers avoiding conflict at all costs, but will not hesitate to throw himself into the fray for the sake of someone else. He is not a bitter person and forgives those he loves quickly, although it is more difficult for him to forget if someone threatens or hurts his family.

7. #7Raphael Santiago

   Keys: raphael, santiago · Secondary:

   Vampire

   Hispanic, and devoutly Catholic.

   Raphael is elegant, ambitious, and cunning. He is also always well-dressed, typically in a crisp suit. Appearance is important to Raphael, both in the way he dresses and the authority he projects.

   He has a lack of interest in sexual relationships, but he still experiences romantic feelings and finds them worth pursuing. While cold to most, he can show himself to be warm and caring to people that tear down his walls.

   Raphael still has his Catholic faith and his religion is part of who he is, even as a vampire.
