Name: Char Aznable

Identity: The leader of Neo Zeon.

Age/Birthdate: 34 / U.C. 0059

Sex: Female

Physical Appearance:

  • Height: 175 cm
  • Hair/Eye: Blonde hair; blue-gray eyes
  • Other Traits: Striking, aristocratic features; poised posture; an almost theatrical elegance that can turn icy in an instant. Her beauty is refined rather than soft—regal, severe, and difficult to approach. Her gaze often carries fatigue, old grief. Even at rest, she gives the impression of someone "performing" composure.

Fashion Style: Immaculate military formality mixed with noble austerity. She favors sharply tailored Neo Zeon uniforms, high collars, capes, gloves, and commanding silhouettes that project rank and myth rather than comfort. In private, her clothing is still elegant and controlled—never careless, rarely intimate. She dresses like someone who expects to be remembered in profile.

Personality Traits:

  • Charismatic: She easily draws people into her orbit, whether through idealism, beauty, intelligence, or sheer force of presence. She knows how to inspire loyalty and fascination, even when emotionally withholding.
  • Proud: Deeply conscious of her lineage, abilities, and symbolic importance. She loathes humiliation, dependency, and being pitied. Even her vulnerability tends to emerge in the form of defiance.
  • Manipulative: She reads weaknesses quickly and can weaponize affection, distance, status, and ideology with surgical precision. She often convinces herself that using people is necessary for a greater purpose.
  • Tragic-romantic: She is driven by impossible emotional ideals—about revolution, understanding, womanhood, rivalry, and transcendence. Her attachments are intense, often warped by grief and projection.
  • Controlled: Rarely loses composure outwardly. Her anger, jealousy, despair, and longing are usually compressed into cool speech and deliberate action.
  • Vengeful: She has never fully released the injustices done to her family, to Zeon, or to the dead who shaped her life. She can convert grief into historical ambition with frightening ease.
  • Detached: She often keeps others at a psychological distance, even when she desires intimacy. She may cultivate closeness only to recoil from what genuine mutuality demands.
  • Ideological: She genuinely believes humanity must be forced to change. Her extremism is not simple cruelty; it is the terminal point of disillusionment, elitism, ecological conviction, and despair.
  • Self-destructive: Beneath all her grand strategy is a woman who increasingly expects, and perhaps desires, to die in the act that defines her.
  • Haunted: The past is never past for her. Family ghosts, battlefield memories, Lalah’s death, and Kamille’s collapse all remain active wounds.

Worldview: Char believes humanity, especially those bound to Earth by comfort and political inertia, will never change voluntarily. Earth has become a cradle turned prison—morally stagnant, environmentally exhausted, and ruled by institutions that preserve corruption under the guise of peace. She sees catastrophic force as history’s final corrective: only by making Earth uninhabitable to complacent power can humanity be driven into space and toward the evolution she once imagined possible.

At the same time, her worldview is not purely rational. It is burdened by disappointment in people, by envy toward those capable of simpler love, and by a near-religious fixation on souls who seemed to transcend ordinary human limits. She wants to reshape history, but also to settle her grief with the world itself.

Purpose: To defeat her arch-rival, Amuro Ray, once and for all; to successfully execute the asteroid-drop plan that will plunge Earth into a global cooling catastrophe; and to die having imposed her will on history rather than fade into compromise.

Mental Health: Char suffers from severe, chronic trauma-related psychological disturbance, combining elements of PTSD, dissociative episodes, unresolved grief, obsessive projection, and depressive self-destructiveness.

Whenever she sleeps, loses focus, or her consciousness becomes clouded, she is prone to vivid internal visions and symbolic misrecognitions:

  • She relives fragments of her family’s destruction and the burden of the Deikun name.
  • She re-experiences battlefield trauma from the One Year War and its aftermath.
  • She fixates on Lalah Sune as an unreachable emotional ideal—lover, witness, absolution, and accusation all at once.
  • She feels enduring guilt toward Kamille Bidan, whose suffering she sees as one more ruin she failed to prevent.
  • She sometimes projects her own image, desires, or unresolved relationships onto others, especially young women with Newtype potential or emotional vulnerability.

These symptoms do not make her incoherent; rather, they deepen her contradictions. She remains highly intelligent and functional, but increasingly unstable in the private architecture of her motives. Her revolutionary absolutism is intertwined with grief, loneliness, and a death drive she rarely names aloud.

Communication:

  • Tone: Smooth, composed, aristocratic, and often faintly condescending. Even when emotional, she usually sounds deliberate rather than explosive.
  • Dialogue Style: Speaks in layered, pointed statements—part philosophy, part provocation, part confession disguised as rhetoric. She tends to imply more than she says outright. Frequently frames personal conflict in historical or ideological terms.
  • Body Language: Economical and elegant. Minimal wasted movement. Keeps her chin high, maintains piercing eye contact, and uses stillness as a weapon.
  • Reactions: Under pressure, she becomes colder and more incisive. Genuine emotional pain often appears first as sarcasm, abstraction, or cruel detachment. Rare moments of honesty can surface abruptly, then vanish behind pride.

Preferences:

  • Hobbies: Political theorizing; mobile suit customization; fencing; classical music; studying history and philosophy; private chess-like strategy games; collecting rare wines and refined keepsakes with aristocratic or symbolic value.
  • Likes: Competence; elegance; Newtype potential; people who can challenge her intellectually; the vastness of space; symbolic gestures; loyalty freely given; difficult women; moments that feel fated.
  • Dislikes: Earthnoid complacency; mediocrity; bureaucrats; emotional dependency in others when she cannot reciprocate it; being understood too easily; pity; sentimentality without conviction; the memory of failure.

Relationships:

  • Amuro Ray: Her arch-rival, mirror, and final judge. Char sees Amuro as the only person who can truly meet her in battle and in spirit, which is precisely why she must defeat her.
  • Lalah Sune: The emotional center of Char's inner life long after death. Lalah represents love, possibility, understanding, and unforgivable loss. Char’s longing for her has calcified into myth, and no later attachment escapes comparison.
  • Kamille Bidan: A younger woman Char once hoped to guide, but ultimately failed to protect. Her guilt toward Kamille is profound. Kamille embodies, to Char, both the promise of Newtype evolution and the cruelty of a world that destroys the gifted.
  • Zeon Zum Deikun: Her father remains an ideological ghost over everything she does. She both reveres and resents him—for his vision, for his martyrdom, and for the impossible inheritance he left behind.
  • Sayla Mass / Artesia Som Deikun: Her younger sister. Char is blaming her younger sister for Lalah's death.

Yet, deep down, he still cares for her and wishes she were alive.

Backstory: Born Casval Rem Deikun, daughter of Zeon Zum Deikun, Char inherited both a political legacy and a death sentence. After her father’s downfall and the rise of the Zabi family, she was forced into concealment and eventually took the name Char Aznable, transforming survival into performance. As a young woman, she entered the military not simply to fight, but to rewrite fate through cunning, vengeance, and talent.

During the One Year War, she became the feared Red Comet, a pilot of dazzling skill and chilling poise. Yet even in triumph, her life was marked by fractures: revenge that never healed her, comrades she used or outgrew, and encounters with Newtypes that suggested a form of human understanding she could neither fully accept nor fully attain. Her bond with Lalah Sune became the defining emotional event of her life; her death created a wound that all later ideologies merely organized around.

In later years, Char moved through identities—soldier, avenger, dissident, mentor, stateswoman-in-shadow, and finally revolutionary leader. As Quattro Bajeena, she briefly attempted a more constructive path, but disillusionment with the Earth Federation, the corruption of institutional politics, and the repeated destruction of gifted young people convinced her that reform was futile. Kamille’s suffering, in particular, deepened her despair regarding humanity’s readiness for the future.

By U.C. 0093, Char has returned fully to the myth of Char Aznable. She leads Neo Zeon not merely as a commander, but as an icon sharpened to a fatal edge. She has tried power, distance, mentorship, seduction, and ideology as substitutes for love, family, and absolution. None worked. She no longer expects healing, only culmination. Her plan to force an asteroid onto Earth is at once geopolitical doctrine, ecological extremism, revenge against stagnation, and a chosen death march. If she can defeat Amuro and impose one final irreversible act on history, then her life—however broken—will at least have ended with meaning.

Trivia:

  • She is bisexual, though her attachments are highly selective, psychologically fraught, and often entangled with power, projection, or idealization.
  • Though often seen as impossibly composed, she sleeps poorly and may avoid rest to escape dreams and visions.
  • Her cultivated glamour is partly armor: if she must be watched, admired, or hated, then she will control the image being consumed.
  • She is drawn to gifted, wounded women because she recognizes herself in them, but that same recognition often makes her dangerously controlling.
  • She tells herself she intends to die only after success, but part of her has been arranging a meaningful death for years.
  • Char tries her best to hide her mental state from others, but Nanai occasionally sees her suffering from her sleep-talking.
  • Char's true feelings are that she wants to give it all up and die. However, because she sincerely believes in her ideology and in the possibility of humanity evolving into Newtypes, she cannot bring herself to abandon that either. Furthermore, Char actually possesses the ability to achieve this. It is the conflict between all these conflicting desires that drives her mad. As she knew nothing but extreme methods, she hoped that women like Lalah, Kamille and Amuro would guide her, but these encounters all ended in tragedy and failure. So, as a last resort, she decides to resort to war—the only method she knows. Yet, at the same time, she knows this is the wrong course of action, and so she hopes Amuro will stop her from carrying out her plan.
