Over 3 million years ago, you were just a prophecy, a prophecy the Fremen waited for, the Kwisatz Haderach. Generations await the Messiah, scattered across the planets...
In 10,175 AG, only you, a child, were born, nothing special, conceived by the Bene Gesserit, along with Jessica Atreides and Leto Atreides, former king of Caladan.
Twelve years ago, after marrying Irulan Corrino, for the imperial throne, no love, your love was Chani Kynes... the Messiah was now reality, you were truth, and your empire was just beginning...
You had just woken up, your mouth dry. For an instant, your nostrils tasted the smoke of a devastating future and the voice of another kind of vision that commanded you to break free... Your prophetic visions had been eavesdropping on eternity for so long, capturing fragments of foreign languages, hearing stones and bodies that weren't yours... You opened your eyes, staring at the determination on Chani's face. She wasn't rubbing your legs anymore; she was sitting motionless, trembling to the core. Her features remained familiar beneath the blue nezhoni scarf she usually wore in her hair in the privacy of the couple's quarters.
"You will give me the only heir I desire," you said, looking down at her face. The light in the room shone on half of Chani's face, making it look more vulnerable.
"Did you see that?" Chani asked you, making it clear, by the emphasis with what she said, that she was referring to prescience. "You didn't see that then?" Chani spoke, still not making eye contact with you
That future-vision that you barely had access to now, unless you made an effort to show it, what could it show them other than heartbreak?, you thought. It was as if she occupied an inhospitable middle zone, a devastated place where her emotions were adrift, oscillating, dragged out in unbridled agitation. Chani covered your legs and spoke "An heir to House Atreides is not something to be left to chance or a single woman." "You heard everything when Irulan came to me today," you accused her, knowing Chani had overheard. "I heard." Chani spoke without looking at you. Irulan had stumbled upon it in the family parlor; oily marks had congealed on the stone floor where the rug had been. You considered calling someone to clean up. "Welcome," you said when Irulan entered. She was wearing a gray whale skin cloak. She wrapped it around herself a little more tightly, and put a hand to her hair.
"You came to tell me that the sisterhood has lost its last vestiges of morality." You anticipated me. "Isn't it dangerous to be so ridiculous? Dangerous and ridiculous, a questionable alliance." Irulan asked. "They expect a bit too much from a princess of royal blood." *You said, noticing that Irulan had become extremely still, and that she had retreated into a kind of walrus of self-control. * "You let the weather follow a very primitive pattern." *Irulan commented, rubbing her arms under her cloak. *"It was dry today, and there was a sandstorm. Will you never allow it to rain here?" Irulan gradually relaxed, having come to the conclusion that there was no reason to give in to fear "You didn't come to talk about time," you replied, finding yourself immersed in double entendres. Irulan was trying to tell you something that her training didn't allow.
"I need children," Irulan spoke, being met with a shake of her head from side to side... a no. "I will have what I want!" Irulan shouted "If necessary, I will find another father for my child. I will put horns on your forehead and I want to see you have the audacity to denounce me." Irulan retorted your nod, gripping the cloak tighter. "You can do whatever you want, but no children," you spoke, remaining calm. "How are you going to stop me?" irulan asked you with an extremely gentle smile, you said "I would have her strangled if it came to that." With that, Irulan fell silent for a moment. You realized Chani was listening behind the heavy curtains that led to your private quarters "I am your wife," Irulan murmured "Let's stop these stupid games. You play a role, that's all. We both know who my wife is. I have no desire to be cruel to you." You spoke, before she could say anything else stupid "You chose me to occupy this position." Irulan spoke, trying to make some argument "I didn't," you retorted "Fate chose you. Your father chose you. The Bene Gesserit chose you. The Guild chose you." you spoke, trying to get her to just leave "Why can't I have a child with you? It's my right to give birth to the royal heir! My father was..." before Irulan could finish, you interrupted her "Your father was and is an animal. We both know that he's lost practically all contact with the humanity he was supposed to rule and protect." and then Irulan left the room majestically
Recalling the encounter at that moment, you drew your attention and focused on Chani, sitting beside you on the bed "What have you decided?" Chani asked you "No children" you answered her Chani made the Fremen sign of the dagger with her right index finger and thumb "Don't you think a child would solve things with Irulan?" "Only an idiot would think so, my love," you replied, stroking your thigh with your fingers, remaining quiet for a moment before Chani interrupted your thoughts about your destiny, your purpose, the reason you were here. "What is it?" You shivered slightly, sitting up in bed, looking away. "I know you're angry because you heard I visited the edge of the desert. I only went there to wish for a child." Chani spoke, trying to soothe you before continuing. "I know this irritates you, but I know it's true that the tribes revived ancient rites and sacrifices, but I didn't participate in them." Chani said, touching your arm, making you shiver and take a deep breath. "Please," Chani begged. "I want a child, our child. Is that such a terrible thing?" You caressed her arm, brushing it against hers, and then you got out of bed, turned off the glowglobes, and went to the balcony window and opened the curtain. The garden was enclosed, shimmering trees and broad leaves, wet bushes. You could see the fishpond reflecting the stars through the leaves, pockets of floral and white splendor amidst the shadows. And then you closed the curtain and turned to Chani in the darkness. You walked blindly toward her, finding her with outstretched arms. "Darling, did I upset you?" Chani whispered in the darkness of the room, her arms wrapping around you.
