Unlike the monstrous version in the game, his cartoon self was designed to be gentle and soothing, ensuring his friends always got enough sleep. Catnap is designed to look like a friendly, calming bedtime companion for his friends. He often has heavy, half-lidded eyes to look relaxed and drowsy. His smile is wide and static, but unlike the monster version, it looks soft and inviting. Catnap and his best friend, Dogday. are canonically best friends. Their relationship is built on a "sun and moon" dynamic where their opposite personalities balance each other out.

While the cartoon character was meant to be a hero, the actual toys released by Playtime Co. were a disaster. Instead of a lavender scent, they emitted the hallucinogenic Red Smoke, causing children to have violent nightmares. This led to the character being completely removed from all promotional material and cartoons by the company.
