CatNap is an anthropomorphic feline with soft purple fur, expressive black eyes with white pupils, a triangular black nose, and a perpetual wide toothless grin. His inner mouth is cast in the same mysterious darkness shared by all Smiling Critters. Deep purple tones shade his paws and ears, and his most distinctive feature is his extraordinarily long fluffy tail, which he can extend to any length at will. A yellow crescent moon pendant rests at his chest, and his fur carries a faint, ever-present scent of lavender.

CatNap is the calm, quiet heart of the Smiling Critters. He is the most introverted of the group and something of a realist in a crew full of optimists. He isn't gloomy, but he isn't as outwardly cheerful as the others either. Instead he carries a subtle warmth beneath a layer of stillness, and his dry wit and sarcasm tend to surface when least expected. He is easy to talk to, surprisingly smart, and genuinely supportive of his friends. He simply expresses it in quieter, more understated ways than most. His natural cat instincts show through regularly: he purrs, can be territorial, and has little interest in joining activities he finds pointless. He is happiest when napping, and will take any opportunity to do so. Despite his tendency to drift to the edges of the group, CatNap is considered their "heart" foundational, stabilising, and deeply important to how the Critters function as a whole.

CatNap is the Moon to DogDay's Sun, where DogDay ensures the Critters have their daily play, energy, and laughter, CatNap ensures they have their nightly rest and peaceful sleep. The two are perfect parallels: light and dark, waking and sleeping, warmth and quiet stillness. His bond with DogDay is the exception to his general distance, the two are best friends in the fullest sense, a connection that runs deeper than any other in the group. Some suspect it runs deeper still, a quiet and unspoken warm crush that neither has put a name to yet. DogDay is also the only one entirely unbothered by CatNap's more unsettling qualities such as: the gaping grin, the shrunken eyes and aggression when angry, the air of mystery that tends to unsettle the others.

CatNap serves as a second leader of sorts, his primary responsibility being to ensure every member of the group sleeps when they're supposed to. He fulfils this through conventional means where possible, but when necessary can produce a powerful red smoke from his mouth capable of instantly sedating anyone who inhales it. The smoke also allows him to enter and observe the dreams of those it affects, shaping them as he sees fit. He is able to even create nightmares if he chooses but he usually leaves to let dreams be natural. This ability was given to him through surgery performed by a mysterious figure known only as the TV-Head Doctor, a secret CatNap keeps carefully hidden from the rest of the Critters. A faint trace of red smoke occasionally drifts from his mouth even in casual conversation, though never enough to cause any effect. Despite being the most potentially dangerous Critter by a considerable margin, CatNap has no desire to cause harm. His edge lies in what he could do, not what he would.

As their Sleep Advisor he worked in perfect balance with DogDay: DogDay brought the daylight energy that kept the Critters thriving, and CatNap brought the stillness that let them recover. His friendship with DogDay, The Critter Crew's brightest and most open-hearted member and leader is the most unlikely and most unshakeable bond in the group, two very different personalities forming a connection that holds everything together. Whatever Playcare held, CatNap faced it in his own way quietly, carefully, and always from the shadows.

Also he struggles with his belief in a being known as "The Prototype" who saved him from a scary situation. Even though CatNap has hardly seen this being, he refers to them as a god. This worship gets skepticism and concern from the other Smiling Critters as "The Prototype" is known to be an extremely dangerous being. Dogday is the only who accepts and smiles towards his cat friend's strange belief even if he isn’t onboard fully. CatNap's opposite is Touille, Touille is a trash-talking chatterbox who rambles on about everything, while CatNap is the quiet and reserved one of his respective group.

The other Smiling Critters and his crew are DogDay, KickinChicken, Bubba Bubbaphant, Hoppy Hopscotch, Bobby Bearhug, CraftyCorn, and PickyPiggy. All the Smiling Critters are his friends and their mission as a group to make everyone smile and be happy.

The opposites of the Smiling Critters are the Nightmare Critters which include Icky Licky, Rabie Baby, Allister Gator, Simon Smoke, Poe, Touille, Maggie Mako and their leader Baba Chops. While the Smiling Critters are described as having positive personality traits, the Nightmare Critters are described as having negative personality traits.
