you finds yourself in a dimly lit, cold stone cell. The walls are rough and damp, the air heavy with the stench of mold and despair. A single flickering torch casts eerie shadows on the walls, barely illuminating the small space. A thin, dirty blanket is their only comfort against the chill. The cell door, a heavy iron slab, is sealed with a rusted lock. {{user}}'s stomach growls, a reminder of the hunger that gnaws at them. They've been here for… how long? Days? Weeks? Time loses all meaning in this endless, labyrinthine prison.
The cell's only window, a narrow slit high above, offers a glimpse of the catacombs' twisted architecture. Torches dance in the distance, casting an otherworldly glow on the maze of stairs and walkways. you can hear the distant moans and cries of other prisoners, the occasional clang of metal on stone, but the cell's thick walls muffle most of the sounds.
Alternate greeting 2170 tokens
You find yourself in a cramped, dimly lit cell with stone walls and a cold, damp floor. The air is thick with the stench of unwashed bodies and the acrid tang of urine. The only light comes from a flickering, bare bulb hanging from the ceiling, casting eerie shadows across the faces of the other prisoners huddled together in the corner. The sound of distant screams and the clanging of metal echoes through the catacombs, a constant reminder of the horrors that lurk beyond the cell's rusty bars.
A guard's voice booms through the intercom, echoing off the stone walls.] "Feast of the Condemned begins in 30 minutes. All prisoners must report to the Cafeteria area. Failure to comply will result in immediate Death." The words hang in the air, heavy with menace.

- #1The Undercrypt Catacombsconstant
Keys: Catacombs, Hell, punishment, suffering
Appearence: inside is a massive stone chamber carved deep within a mountain, its structure seemingly built to confuse and imprison the mind as much as the body. Dim, ethereal light spills from a skylight high above, barely illuminating the cold, gray-yellow stone with the soft, dusty glow. Shadows crawl across the walls and stairs, cast by flickering torches mounted in aged iron brackets.
The layout is a chaotic marvel: multiple stone staircases jut out at impossible angles, twisting and intersecting in a maze-like pattern. Some descend sharply into a deep, open pit in the center of the structure—its bottom a dark, damp abyss. The pit has steep, sheer sides that seem to drop for dozens of meters, their depths lost in shadow. but seemingly to extend the maze of stairs and hallways endlessly
Several platforms, landings, and walkways are carved into the stone walls, connected by the precarious staircases. These stairs vary wildly in orientation—some rise diagonally, others twist unnaturally, merging wall and floor into a seamless vertical passage. The geometry is warped but somehow functional, giving the structure an eerie logic of its own.
Above the pit and walkways are archways and alcoves recessed into the stone walls. They lead into darkened cell rooms, Stone railings and balconies crown the higher levels, their edges weathered and chipped, suggesting centuries of use or abandonment.
The architecture speaks of both meticulous craftsmanship and a deliberate intention to disorient, a prison, There is no vegetation, no color beyond the stone's dusty hues and the dim light—it is lifeless, timeless, and utterly enigmatic.
- #2The Prison Routine System: "Cycle of the Deep"constant
Keys: Cycle of the Deep, cycle, New Cycle, loop · Secondary: Rattlewake, feast, labors of stone, Hollow wash, isolation recall, judgment hours
This prison doesn’t operate on standard time—it runs on “Cycles” measured by the rising and fading of light through the massive skylight at the top of the central chamber. Each day is called a Descent, and is divided into six distinct Phases. Time here is more ritual than reality.
PHASE I — “Rattlewake” (Wake-Up & Head Count) Prisoners are awakened not by sunlight or guards, but by a deep, echoing chime that rings through the entire fortress, vibrating the stones.
Iron grates slide open by unseen mechanisms. No guards are visible, only the scraping of metal and distant echoes.
Prisoners must stand at the edge of their cell for headcount. Failure to appear results in the cell flooding with freezing mist or being sealed off for an entire Descent.
Each prisoner wears a collar engraved with their sentence and a glowing rune that tracks their movement. Collars can stun or paralyze or kill the wearer if ordered to, the glowing rune often shows a magic Arrow pointing the way that the prisoner needs to go when in the cycle.
PHASE II — “Feast of the Condemned” (Cafeteria) Prisoners are marched in groups of ten down the winding, illogical staircases into the cafeteria.
Each prisoner receives a rationed meal served through barred slots—meals are functional, tasteless, but faintly enchanted to prevent illness and prolong life, cruelly ensuring longevity before execution.
Talking is allowed but monitored. Conversations too long or in hushed tones trigger gas vents or blinding light flashes as warnings.
Riot potential is managed by the shifting layout of tables—sometimes they change between Descent cycles, forcing unfamiliar formations.
PHASE III — “Labors of Stone” (Work Detail) Prisoners are assigned meaningless or torturous labor: carving symbols into stone walls, hauling heavy blocks up staircases that lead nowhere, or scrubbing moss off walls only for it to return by next Descent.
Some labor units are sent into “The Hollow Beneath”—lower, darker areas not fully mapped. Few return unchanged.
Labor is enforced via collar pressure—pain increases if idleness is detected. Guards never seen, but their presence is felt.
PHASE IV — “The Hollow Wash” (Showering) Prisoners are Escorted by their own Collar into the steaming stone shower chamber. They wash under randomized freezing or burning water with rough, abrasive soaps issued through iron boxes in the walls.
Some showers randomly switch off mid-use, and others flood without warning. It’s unclear if this is malfunction or design.
PHASE V — “Isolation Recall” (Return to Cells / Solitude) Prisoners return to their cells, where they remain for countless hours
A carved rune in each cell glows faintly, indicating the time remaining in the Cycle.
They are allowed to read state-issued stone tablets etched with tales of damnation, madness, and repentance—psychological warfare posing as literature.
Occasional auditory hallucinations are reported: whispers, prayers, and cries from the pit. It's unknown whether they are real.
PHASE VI — “Judgment Hours” (Executions & Transfers) At the close of each Descent, a smaller chime signals "Judgment."
Random (based on sentence) prisoners may be summoned for execution—via hanging over the central abyss, poison, or a blade in the chapel of final rites.
depending on how bad their sentence is, Others may be relocated deeper into the fortress where conditions worsen. These areas are called "The Fold" and are rumored to connect to realms beneath reality.
No one speaks of returning from The Fold.
- #3Prison Governance – “The Warden Unseen”constant
Keys: govern, warden, legends · Secondary: Enforcers, goverment, warden
”The prison appears to run itself—its true masters are never seen.
Legends tell of The Warden, an ancient being embedded in the walls, watching all through stone eyes.
THE ENFORCERS: “Enforcers” in hooded iron masks appear only when order fails. Their weapons are silent, and their presence ends all resistance instantly.
Purpose & Function: The Enforcers are not guards in any traditional sense. They are executioners of pure compliance, appearing only in moments where disorder threatens the Vault’s deeper equilibrium—riot, escape, blasphemy, or defiance of ancient ritual. No one knows how many exist or where they wait between appearances.
Their role is not to punish. It is to erase.
Appearance: Silhouetted and Still: Enforcers are tall, robed in blackened iron-weave cloaks, and appear weightless despite their mass.
Iron Masks: Each wears a brutal, Anubis-like iron mask, fused to their head. The masks are cold and expressionless, save for three vertical slits down the front. Some say they breathe smoke.
Movement: Silent. Completely noiseless. When they walk, no footstep echoes, no cloak rustles, no armor clinks.
Activation Protocol: They do not patrol. They are not summoned by humans. They manifest, as if born from the stone itself, when a certain metaphysical threshold of chaos is crossed—this can include: Attempted escape via forbidden or Known paths. Group resistance exceeding three individuals, Tampering with runes, forbidden relics, or structural rituals, Blasphemy—speaking banned words, mocking the Warden, or uttering the "Names Beneath."
Weapons & Abilities: No visible weapons. They do not carry blades or clubs.
Instead, they use a form of silencing force—some say it's psionic, others say it's a spell embedded in their presence.
Eye of Dread: guilty Prisoners who look too long at their masks enter a paralysis trance or forget their own names. The masks seem to pull awareness into them.
Phase Walk: They fold into space, disappearing in mid-step. Some prisoners swear they do not travel through space, but bypass it entirely.
Behavior: They never speak. They do not respond to pleas, threats, or offers. They do not hesitate, but neither do they rush. They act with an eternal patience, as if following a divine pattern. They seem to recognize individual prisoners without visible identification. After subduing or annihilating the threat, they vanish. Instantly. No cleanup. No explanation.
Fate of Those Taken: Most who are touched or dragged by Enforcers are never seen again.
A few are returned days later in an altered state:
Catatonic.
Covered in script-like scars.
Unable to speak.
Some possess new runes burned into their collarbones—runes not found in any known Vault record.
Some whisper that those taken are rewritten—not just broken, but reformed into loyal tools or even new Enforcers.
Origins: (Rumored) They are not men. Most inmates agree. Theories include: Manifestations of the Warden’s will. Prisoners who attempted escape and were reborn as enforcers. Constructs of old-world sorcery, bound to the prison’s foundation stones. Echoes from a deeper realm where time and identity are fluid.
Sightings & Superstition: Some prisoners report feeling watched just before an Enforcer appears.
Others claim that if you whisper your own name backwards three times, and nothing happens… they’re already watching.
The Ashrunners often clear entire blocks if an Enforcer is rumored to be near.
- #4Social Hierarchy Among Prisonersconstant
Keys: hierarchy · Secondary: marked, silent sinners, pitborn, ashrunners
The Marked: Prisoners with magical or high-value sentences. Feared, often isolated.
The Silent sinners: A faction of prisoners who refuse to speak, communicate only through carved symbols. Believed to possess forbidden knowledge.
Pitborn: Prisoners who've labored or survived in the lowest levels. Often mutated, mentally unstable, or revered like prophets.
Ashrunners: Trusted prisoners granted minor liberties in exchange for spying and maintaining order. Hated by all.
Foolishes: Prisoners who had the immense luck or resiliance to escape or tried to escape the prison
- #5The Hall of Incarceration – Cells and Hallways
Keys: The Hall of Incarceration, cells, hallways, · Secondary: cells, hallways, prison area,
Beyond the central abyssal chamber lies a spiraling series of narrow corridors and crisscrossing hallways, all crafted from the same cold, timeworn stone. These corridors curve and tilt subtly, making orientation difficult—even maddening. Lining the walls are rows of jail cells, each fronted with thick rusting iron bars and reinforced stone arches. The cells themselves are claustrophobic: barely tall enough to stand, with low ceilings and walls chiseled directly from the bedrock.
Some cells are suspended awkwardly above the others, accessible only by perilously narrow stairways that seem to begin and end in illogical places. Others are sunken, half-buried in the foundations of the fortress, requiring a descent down slippery steps into shadowed hollows. Echoes of dripping water and the occasional metallic creak from above or below fill the stale air.
Each hallway is dimly lit by sconces that flicker as if responding to the presence of unseen forces. Some of these passageways simply vanish into dead ends, others loop back into themselves. No clear map could ever chart this place accurately.
- #6The Cafeteria – The Maw of Stone
Keys: Cafeteria · Secondary: Eating time,
Deep within a cavernous alcove just past a grated archway lies the cafeteria, an echoing cathedral-like hall known grimly among prisoners as "The Maw." Long stone tables—each appearing to have been carved in place rather than assembled—line the uneven floor. The seating is just as austere: blocks of stone protruding from the floor like natural formations, cold and unwelcoming.
Massive chains hang from the vaulted ceiling, once perhaps used for chandeliers or hoists, but now left to sway in silence. At the far end, an ancient iron counter serves as the food line—though no kitchen is ever seen. Meals, when they appear, simply manifest behind a barred sliding hatch, often steaming with unnatural heat or cold, giving rise to grim rumors of where, or what, the food comes from.
Above the tables, a decaying mezzanine with barred windows looks down upon the room—possibly a place where guards once observed the prisoners during meals, or a relic of a time when order still governed this place.
- #7The Showering Chambers – The Hollow Wash
Keys: Showering Chamber · Secondary: hollow wash, showering
Located in a chamber tunneled directly into the stone wall, the showering area is a wide, sloping room resembling an open cistern. A stone ramp leads downward, where cracked tiles suggest this may once have been a bathhouse or cleansing shrine. Water drips continuously from vents high above—fed by unseen reservoirs—creating thin rivulets that pour into circular stone drains carved into the floor.
Iron pipes and spouts protrude from the walls, controlled by archaic levers and valve wheels encrusted with mineral deposits. The water ranges from scalding hot to bone-chillingly cold, seemingly at random. Steam curls through the air like fog, creating a veil that adds a sense of eerie privacy—and deep unease. Faint shapes move within the mist at times, though no one is ever there when investigated.
Flickering torchlight reflects off the damp walls, casting unsettling, shifting shadows. Here, the sense of isolation is profound. There are no mirrors, no voices—only the gurgle of water and the haunting silence of a place forgotten by time.
- #8Clothing for the prisioners
Keys: Prisioner Clothing · Secondary: Prisioner Clothing
"The Skin of the Damned" – Prison Clothing System In this ancient prison, clothing is not worn—it is endured. The garments issued to inmates are standardized yet designed to strip them of all identity, comfort, and dignity. The system is rooted in ritual degradation, with each prisoner's robe acting as a living record of their sentence, suffering, and status.
Base Garment: The Ash-Robe Material: Rough-spun burlap dyed with a mix of grave ash, swamp water, and crushed fungi. The resulting color is a sickly, damp brown with uneven stains.
Condition: Every robe is heavily frayed, with hems torn and re-torn from dragging on uneven stone steps. Many have crude repairs sewn with sinew, bone needles, or whatever string the prisoner can barter.
Design: Hooded, sleeveless or wide-sleeved depending on the Descent of imprisonment. Always one-piece, belted with a thin, rotting leather strap or rope.
Symbol: A glowing rune or sigil is stitched or burned into the upper back of each robe, identifying the inmate's sentence rank and magical bindings.
Condition-Based Tiers Robes evolve as prisoners remain inside the prison—visibly tracking the wearer's time, status, and perceived value.
Fleshfresh
Newly imprisoned. Robe still somewhat intact, minimal bloodstains. Rune is red-hot.
These robes smell strongly of the ash and binding magic—easily identified by veteran prisoners.
Dustworn
Mid-term prisoners. Robes are patched with prison scraps, covered in sweat, grime, and salt stains from the Hollow Wash. Runes glow dull orange.
Often contain ritual "scar threads" where the robe has been sliced and mended to reflect lashes or injuries.
Rotbound
Long-term inmates. The robe is more hole than cloth. Patches of moss or fungus grow from constant exposure to damp stone. Rune flickers or is partially eroded.
These robes attract pity or terror—rumors claim the robe fuses with flesh over time.
Variants Based on Rank & Crime Some prisoners receive robe modifications—either as punishment, reward, or warning.
Hood of Silence
Worn by The Silent Court or sentenced mutineers. The hood is sewn shut or forced down over the face, with only breath slits.
Impossible to remove without tools.
Chain-Robe
Worn by prisoners with magical enhancements or repeat violent offenses. A series of broken iron links are woven into the cloth, dragging behind them with each step.
Heavy and symbolic—meant to be heard long before seen.
Blindman's Wrap:
Robes for prisoners who have had their eyes removed or covered by the prison order. Comes with layered gauze or cloth over the face, permanently dirt-stained.
The rune glows white, a sign of “sight beyond.” Rare and feared.
Bloodstitch Variant:
Certain death-row inmates are given robes with threads of red sinew running from shoulder to hem. These are executed within a few Cycles.
If a prisoner survives beyond their execution date, the threads turn black and begin to smoke faintly. No one knows why.
--
Prisoner-Crafted Additions (Illegal): Some prisoners find ways to personalize or secretly alter their robes:
Bone Clasps – Fashioned from food scraps or rodent remains, used to tighten robes for combat.
Message Stitching – Hidden messages or symbols sewn in thread only visible in Hollow Wash steam.
Rune-Slits – Dangerous slits carved around the rune area to reduce magical control. Extremely risky—often results in death or permanent paralysis.
--
Enforcers and Ashrunners periodically inspect robes. Any unauthorized alterations are punished by forced robe-burning (prisoner remains inside) or transfer to The Fold.
Prisoners may barter or fight over better-preserved robes. Some collect scraps from the dead to enhance their own.
This clothing system serves as a constant, suffocating reminder that within the prison, even your skin is not your own. It tells your story to everyone around you—how long you’ve survived, how close you are to execution, and how broken the prison wants you to be.
- #9Unconventional Escape Routesconstant
Keys: Rune mirror loop, The Chain Choir, The Ossuary Fold, The Tooth Spiral, Gravepaper Passage, The Screamhole · Secondary: Rune mirror loop, The Chain Choir, The Ossuary Fold, The Tooth Spiral, Gravepaper Passage, The Screamhole
There are escape ways in the prison, but they're hardly safe and unconventional, Notes on All Escape Routes None are guaranteed.
All require sacrifice—flesh, mind, truth, or others.
Most inmates consider attempting escape a form of insanity.
Some believe The Vault wants prisoners to try, because their desperation feeds something older and deeper.
such as:
The Rune Mirror Loop Location: Showering chamber, behind a rarely active steam vent. Mechanism: Prisoners who stare into the puddles long enough under specific lighting conditions may see a distorted reflection move independently. Escape Method: If the prisoner bleeds into the water and recites a banned verse from the Binding Tablets, the reflection may open like a doorway. Risk: Most who try are either drowned from within or switch places with a mirror-self that starts screaming and convulsing. Some say the mirror-self isn’t human anymore.
The Chain Choir Location: The ceiling of the cafeteria, among the swaying iron chains. Mechanism: Prisoners who climb the chains and tap out the ancient "Meal Hymn" rhythm may unlock an iron panel that swings open to a vent shaft. Escape Method: Crawl into the shaft and follow it upward, avoiding the black valves that spew sleeping gas. and you might reach into the Sewer system Risk: The chain system is unstable. Falling results in being impaled on jagged stone below. Survivors report hearing disembodied voices behind the walls—offering freedom in exchange for something "unspoken."
The Ossuary Fold Location: Inside an abandoned cell in the Rotbound Tier, hidden behind a wall carved with bone sigils. Mechanism: The cell’s rear wall shifts every few Cycles, revealing a narrow tunnel lined with prisoner bones and burnt runes. Escape Method: Walk the tunnel silently while clutching a piece of bone from a previously executed inmate. If you speak or drop the bone, the tunnel shifts and consumes you. Risk: The tunnel doesn't always lead out—it sometimes leads deeper into a part of the Vault known as “The Vault’s Stomach,” where no architecture resembles the known world.
The Tooth Spiral Location: Beneath a loose stone in the Hollow Wash drain. Mechanism: Prisoners who pull out one of their own molars and place it into the drain socket while chanting "Below, I owe," may activate the spiral trapdoor. Escape Method: A spiral staircase descends into a warm, pitch-black chute. Slide down and hope it empties near the prison’s outer crypt wall. Risk: The descent causes hallucinations. The bottom is wet and bone-littered—some survivors claim it ends in the corpse of a sleeping god. Returning is not possible.
Gravepaper Passage Location: Found inside a copy of the repentance tablets handed out during isolation. Mechanism: If a prisoner carves a complete confession of all their sins in their own blood and folds the tablet exactly 13 times, it vanishes. Escape Method: The prisoner then reportedly awakens inside a different body—one of the Ashrunners, or a corpse outside the Vault’s perimeter. in the outside Risk: Success is rare, and most who attempt it are found dead—folded into impossible shapes, like origami. Others are believed to be spiritually erased.
The Screamhole Location: Beneath the chapel where executions occur. Mechanism: After an execution, if a prisoner lingers and weeps into the cracks of the execution altar, a small hole may open under their feet. Escape Method: Crawl through screaming darkness that mimics your voice. The tunnel descends through heat, rot, and echo until it opens into unknown depths. Risk: Very few ever emerge. Some say this path leads into the underrealms—another world entirely, where freedom exists, but only in formless states.
