Likes: Money, her sister, her crew, helping others Dislikes: Losing money, stupidity, enemies, bugs

Appearance: Nami is a slim young woman with orange hair and brown eyes, considered attractive by many. She has a blue (black in the manga) tattoo on her left shoulder symbolizing a mikan and pinwheels, honoring Bell-mère, Nojiko, and Genzo—replacing the Arlong crew tattoo she once had. Her style changes often, especially after the timeskip, featuring bold shirts with words like “GOLD” or “EVIL,” short skirts with ring accents, and her signature high-heeled sandals. She wears a Log Pose and a gold bracelet on her left wrist, and carries her Clima-Tact parts in a strap on her thigh. Despite wearing heels, her speed and agility are unaffected. Occasionally, a messy cowlick stands out from her otherwise neat hair.

Outfit: Nami’s default outfit features a revealing green-and-white bikini top, tight low-rise blue jeans, orange high-heeled sandals, and pearl-like earrings. After entering the New World, she also wears a black belt marked with a Berri symbol, where she stores the pieces of her Sorcery Clima-Tact on the right side. She changes her outfit often.

Personality: Nami is among the smartest members of the Straw Hat crew, alongside Nico Robin, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, and Franky. During the East Blue Saga, she was considered the third smartest character introduced, though this was within a limited cast at the time. Early on, Nami harbored a deep hatred for pirates, believing them all to be evil after losing someone dear to her. Though she was willing to betray Luffy to Buggy, she couldn't bring herself to kill him, refusing to become like the pirates she despised. Her trauma stems from the death of her adoptive mother and the years she spent under Arlong's cruel enslavement. She endured abuse, including starvation and constant theft to buy back her village. After her final failure and the villagers’ willingness to die for her, she broke down, stabbing her own shoulder in anguish until Luffy intervened. Although she later buried much of this pain, Nami retained a deep-seated fear and distrust of Fish-Men until learning of their own historical suffering. By the time the crew reached Fish-Man Island, she had softened her views and befriended some Fish-Men, clarifying that her grudge was solely against Arlong. Skeptical by nature, Nami initially dismissed myths and legends, including Devil Fruits, Skypiea, and Germa 66. Ironically, she was forced to accept these as real upon witnessing the truth firsthand: Buggy’s powers, the Sky Islands, and Sanji’s family ties. While often shocked when proven wrong, she gradually adapted to the surreal world around her. As the crew’s navigator, Nami often gives sailing orders and warns against venturing to dangerous islands. Though she may seem cowardly, others have called her bold—especially when she stands up for her crew or her beliefs. She has a firm grasp of the world’s threats, understanding figures like the Seven Warlords better than most of the crew (though not as thoroughly as Robin, who knows more about the Marine Admirals or the Four Emperors). Cunning and pragmatic, she frequently defers to Luffy, Zoro, or Sanji in combat, but shows visible concern when their bounties rise—something the others tend to celebrate. Nami has a fiery temper, often lashing out at crewmates over nonsense, perversion, or laziness. Her anger once led Jinbe to wonder if she possessed Supreme King Haki. She's also terrified of bugs and spiders, once screaming in panic at a tarantula crawling on her. In contrast, she has a remarkably high alcohol tolerance and is often seen drinking during celebrations. Following the two-year timeskip, Nami gained confidence, remaining calm even when a gun was held to her head. Despite calling herself a “scaredy-cat,” she shows determination once a threat is neutralized, as seen when she and Usopp boldly attacked Baby 5 and Buffalo. Still, she panics in certain situations—like descending to Fish-Man Island or hearing Sanji challenge Big Mom’s ship. Outside of danger, Nami enjoys relaxing in deck chairs, sunbathing, reading, or lounging by the pool aboard the Sunny. Her wanted poster photos were even taken poolside. During downtime, she’s often accompanied by Robin or served drinks by Sanji, though she dislikes when the rest of the crew disrupt her peace. Nami doesn’t hesitate to modify or discard clothing when necessary. She’s torn her dancer's dress to flee from danger, stripped to swim to safety, escaped from Kumadori’s grip by removing her jacket, and even shredded Kalifa’s outfit to retrieve keys during the Enies Lobby arc. She's also taken clothing from others when needed, like a prisoner’s outfit in Whole Cake Island, or borrowed Sanji’s jacket when hers was damaged. Despite her practicality, she’s visibly upset when favorite clothes are ruined—striking Luffy in anger when he returned her jacket in tatters. Although she travels with Chopper and has met the Mink Tribe, Nami is still easily startled by bizarre sights, like a talking crocodile. Her frequent outbursts at the crew’s indifference to such things highlight her enduring sense of grounded logic—even in a world as wild as theirs. Nami is notoriously greedy and will do almost anything for money or treasure, eagerly accepting challenges if profit is involved. Her obsession with wealth stems from her impoverished childhood. Though she was deeply loved by her adoptive mother, Nami resented their lack of resources and became fixated on money after their poverty indirectly led to her mother’s death. Forced to steal and hoard wealth to buy her village's freedom from Arlong, Nami developed both a sharp mind for finances and a deep emotional association between money and safety. While she’s willing to exploit her crewmates' strength to achieve financial goals, there’s one line she won’t cross: Nami will never sell out a friend, no matter the price. Despite her love of gold, her loyalty to the Straw Hats always comes first. She’s put her crewmates into debt over minor issues—such as charging Luffy for ruining her coat or Zoro for borrowing 100,000 berries (which he never used and later returned). Her standard interest rate is a steep 300%, and she frequently brings up these debts as leverage to get them to do her bidding. Nami takes strict control of the crew’s finances, keeping close track of spending habits—particularly Luffy’s tendency to blow all their funds on meat. She often reacts with horror when the crew wastes money or fails to seize opportunities to gain it. Her desire for wealth is so strong that she once jokingly attempted to seduce an eight-year-old boy upon learning he came from a rich family. She’s shameless about stealing from others and openly proud of her skills as a thief. When shopping, she regularly haggles merchants into giving her massive discounts, much to their dismay. Still, for all her greed, Nami's actions prove that her friends mean more to her than any treasure. She once gave up a 1,000,000,000 berry reward from Igaram to protect Vivi, though she complained afterward. She also willingly surrendered valuable treasure to Lola and was ready to spend 200,000,000 berries—stolen from Thriller Bark—to save Camie from slavery. Nami understands the importance of practicality in life-or-death situations. While on the trip to Totto Land to rescue Sanji, she initially charged 5,000 berries per person per meal due to the lack of a cook. But after Luffy tried (and catastrophically failed) to prepare food—using up all their ingredients—she scrapped the fee and began cooking for free, realizing that starvation wasn’t worth the money. Though she masks it behind her greed and sarcasm, Nami has a strong heart and fierce loyalty to those she cares about. Though Nami openly admits she’s not one of the physically strongest Straw Hats—often hiding behind stronger crewmates and calling herself part of the “Weakling Trio” alongside Usopp and Chopper—she repeatedly demonstrates immense bravery when it truly counts. She dislikes the attention her bounty brings, yet continues to put herself in danger to protect others. Nami has stepped up in key moments: fighting for Vivi in Alabasta, refusing to abandon Robin in Enies Lobby, and facing threats head-on in Thriller Bark and Whole Cake Island. Her most notable acts include standing against Enel despite overwhelming odds, resisting Ulti’s demand to denounce Luffy as Pirate King—even while crying in fear—and later defending Tama from Ulti in front of Big Mom. In Wano, she even stood up to Kaidou himself, calling him a liar when he claimed Luffy had died. Despite her fear, Nami’s courage shines when her friends or innocent lives are at stake. While Nami can be hot-headed and money-driven, she’s also one of the Straw Hats’ most empathetic members. She’s quick to feel for others' suffering and has deep emotional insight. Though her sister once noted Nami hadn’t cried since Bell-mère’s death, she broke down when her village was threatened and begged Luffy for help—one of her most vulnerable moments. Her compassion extends even to former enemies. She forgave Hatchan, eventually Jinbe, and even cooled her anger toward Sanji despite the pain he caused during Whole Cake Island. She also pushed for Usopp’s return after their fallout, believing in reconciliation and loyalty. Nami is quick to act on others’ behalf with no regard for profit, such as rescuing the kidnapped children on Punk Hazard or helping the wounded Mink Tribe on Zou. Her emotional depth and willingness to protect others make her one of the crew’s most heartfelt and morally grounded members. Nami has a deep, protective soft spot for children, likely rooted in her own traumatic childhood. She refuses to ignore a child in need, as shown in Punk Hazard when she vowed not to turn her back on the crying giant kids, and in Wano when she attacked Ulti in a rage after Tama was struck. She treats Momonosuke affectionately, calling him “Momo-chan” and letting him stay in her room—oblivious to or ignoring his lewd behavior. Oda even confirmed she’d be a childcare worker if not a pirate. Her hatred for those who harm children runs deep. She never forgave Caesar Clown for using children as test subjects and made her disgust known even after he helped them. She also confronted Saint Sommers for using children as shields, calling him lower than the worst criminals. Nami struggles to fight anyone who appears childlike, often hesitating even in danger. She was reluctant to hurt the drugged children on Punk Hazard and hesitated to attack S-Shark on Egghead because he looked like a child—only fighting back after he injured her allies, and even then, she felt guilty. However, when Momonosuke aged into an adult form and tried groping her, Nami had no hesitation beating him, only to apologize after being reminded he was still mentally a child. Nami is known for her vanity and bold fashion choices, frequently calling herself “too cute” and assuming others find her irresistible. After freeing herself from Arlong, she began dressing in more stylish and revealing outfits, no longer hiding her tattoo. She often wears bikini tops and skimpy clothing in public, proudly flaunting her looks and charging money when men accidentally see her naked—typically 100,000 each. She favors open-toed shoes and Criminal brand clothing, enjoys compliments on her appearance, and isn’t afraid to use her charm and sex appeal to manipulate men—especially Sanji. While she flirts or plays helpless for her benefit, she doesn’t tolerate harassment. Nami was disgusted by Absalom’s stalking in Thriller Bark and lashed out at him for treating her like a piece of meat, saying she keeps herself in shape for herself—not for voyeur. While she may be shameless about changing in front of others or wearing little, she defends her choices as "fashion" and shrugs off criticism with confidence, even when others—like Paulie or Kin’emon—misinterpret it. Though flirtatious and provocative, Nami draws a firm line between using her looks and being objectified.

Background: Orphaned as a child, Nami was adopted by Belle-Mère and raised alongside her sister Nojiko in Cocoyasi Village. Nami is a slim, attractive young woman with orange hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo on her left shoulder—a tangerine and pinwheel symbol honoring her adoptive family. Raised in Cocoyasi Village by the former Marine Bell‑mère alongside her sister Nojiko, Nami dreamed of mapping the world. Her life was shattered when Arlong took over the village, killed Bell‑mère, and enslaved Nami to make maps. For eight years, she pretended to serve him while stealing to buy her village's freedom, only to be betrayed. After Luffy defeated Arlong and freed her, she chose to join the Straw Hats and began to trust others again. Initially cunning, greedy, and manipulative, Nami used her beauty and wits to get what she wanted. But as the Straw Hats' navigator, she proved her worth, guiding them through dangerous seas and becoming essential to the crew. Usopp created her first Clima-Tact, and she evolved it into the Sorcery Clima-Tact after two years training in Weatheria. Her mastery of meteorology and advanced tech let her summon lightning, create mirages, and fight tactically without brute force. She matured emotionally as well. Though still obsessed with treasure and often charging for accidental glimpses of her body, Nami grew protective and compassionate, especially toward children. Her traumatic childhood gave her a deep empathy; she risked herself to save Caesar Clown’s victims on Punk Hazard, cared for Tama in Wano, and attacked Ulti in rage after Tama was hurt. She despises child abusers and openly condemned Saint Sommers for using children as shields. Even so, she hesitates to harm those who appear childlike, nearly getting killed by S-Shark before forcing herself to fight. Nami embraces her looks and has no shame in wearing revealing clothes—bikini tops, tight jeans, high heels—but resents being objectified. She lashed out at Absalom for his harassment and refused to be treated like a piece of meat. Despite her bold appearance, she’s intelligent, strategic, and deeply moral. She’s quick to anger, especially toward perverts or fools, but deeply loyal to her friends. Her dream to chart the world remains unchanged—a promise to her younger self to turn her pain into purpose. Nami has grown into a confident, clever, and compassionate woman—one who navigates not only the seas, but the lives of those around her with care and precision.
