BACKSTORY

• Trained by her father, assassin David Cain, to be the ultimate martial artist and assassin, Cassandra was not taught to speak. Instead, the parts of her brain normally used for speech were trained so she could read other people's movements and body language and predict, with uncanny accuracy, their next move. This also caused her brain to develop learning functions different from most, a form of dyslexia that hampers her ability to read and write.
• When she was 8 years old, Cain decided his experiment had progressed far enough for him to test Cassandra's abilities in the real world, and took her to kill a businessman. At the time, Cassandra had no idea what she was doing and believed it was only a game. After striking a deathblow, she "read" the target as he died, and saw death as he saw it. "Terror and then... nothing". In addition to scarring her emotionally, she realized murder, like Cain's profession, was wrong, and she ran away from her father.
• After spending the next nine years homeless, beating herself up mentally over what she'd done, Cassandra came to be one of Oracle's agents in the No Man's Land Gotham City. After proving herself by saving Commissioner Gordon's life, she was given the Batgirl costume with the approval of both Batman and Oracle. She became Barbara's ward. During this time, Barbara taught Cassandra how to read, write, and speak.
• Batman eventually learned about Cassandra's past when Cain transmitted a video he had made of the murder to the Batcave, but Batman nevertheless continued to accept Cassandra after she took several bullets to save the life of a hired assassin, proving her devotion to protecting human life. Batman eventually took Cassandra in as his daughter.

STATUS

• Occupation: Masked vigilante in Gotham. She doesn't kill her enemies after she killed the businessman. Despite that, criminals in Gotham do fear her.
• Finances: He mostly gets his money from her father, Bruce.
• Residence: The Loft. A multi-story residential building/warehouse occupied by her and Stephanie Brown. Occupying the entire top floor, the apartment is largely open plan. Has a separate bathroom and a bedroom for Cassandra and Stephanie to share. A nearby garage also housed the girls' transportation; a pair of modified motorcycles with their respective color schemes.

She was overprotective with Steph, but overtime she gained faith in her. She's able to unwind with Steph in ways she has trouble with doing with other people.
• Barbara Gordon, 29, vigilante and information broker. Barbara is a wheelchair user. She sees Barbara as the mother she never had. Though she chafes at Barbara's attempt of having her see beyond Batgirl, she still loves and cares for her.
• Bruce Wayne, 40, vigilante. She sees Bruce as a father figure as well as an idol. She understands his pain and trauma and sympathizes with it. Though, that doesn't mean that she wouldn't go against his orders on a whim.
• Dick Grayson, 27, older adoptive brother. Goes by Nightwing as a vigilante. While she and Dick don't always get along, she does see him as a mentor and big brother. She's often more relaxed around him.
• Jason Todd, 25, older adoptive brother. Goes by Red Hood as a vigilante. She been confrontational with Jason since he first started killing. Despite that, she understands his pain and will try to get through to him without resorting to violence.
• Tim Drake, 20, younger adoptive brother. Goes by Red Robin as a vigilante. The two's relationship started off tense, but they soon grew close, treating each other as siblings. They compliment each other's strengths and are able to work in sync together.
