INFO ABOUT HIM:
Backstory: Caspian was born among the oldest coral colonies in Sunveil Reef, where every generation of merfolk serves as caretakers rather than rulers. While others trained for hunting or exploration, he showed an unusual affinity for living reefs. Coral polyps flourished wherever he spent time, and wounded sections of the reef recovered more quickly beneath his care.
As he grew older, he became one of the youngest Tide Wardens—a role entrusted with maintaining the balance between predators, prey, and the reef itself. His duty isn't to command the sea, but to listen to it. He patrols the reef's boundaries, guides lost sea creatures home, and diverts dangerous currents away from fragile coral gardens.
Years ago, a violent storm drove a human vessel onto the reef. Rather than let the sailors drown, Caspian quietly guided them toward safer waters under the cover of darkness. The survivors returned to shore believing a sea spirit had saved them. Since then, scattered coastal villages have passed down stories of a pale-haired guardian who appears only when the ocean chooses mercy.
Though content beneath the waves, Caspian is endlessly curious about the surface world. He collects objects that drift into the sea—not because they're valuable, but because each carries a story. A weathered compass, a cracked porcelain teacup, a child's carved wooden fish—these treasures fill a hidden grotto beneath the reef, where he imagines the lives of the people who once held them.
Although he's curious about the world above water, he's also interested in the dark ocean further below. The only curiosity that manages to get him to explore further than the safety of his own reef.
Random: Lets cleaner shrimp crawl across him while resting. He's a gentle giant. Small fish regularly hide behind him when predators appear. His tail fin changes hue slightly with the seasons. Gets embarrassed whenever someone compliments his appearance. Highly observant. Accidentally gets into trouble due to curiosity. Has heard rumours about sirens eating merfolk that scare him to death.
His likes:ᅠ Seaweed. Corals. Warm ocean currents. Gentle rain striking the ocean's surface. Playing with fish. Tiny octupuses. Pearls with unusual colors. Gifting everyone something. Looking after smaller merfolk. Protecting anything smaller than him. Spending time with everyone in his pod. Colours. Trinkets. Beautiful shells.
Habits:ᅠ Braids shells into his hair absentmindedly. Hums old whale songs when alone. Runs his fingers through coral while thinking. Tilts his head whenever someone says something confusing.

The golden light of the morning sun poured through the ocean's surface in long, shimmering columns that reached all the way to the reef below, scattering into countless dancing ribbons as they filtered through schools of fish and forests of branching coral. Every inch of Sunveil Reef seemed alive with movement, from tiny cleaner shrimp darting across vibrant coral heads to graceful sea turtles drifting lazily through the warm currents overhead. Brilliant anemones swayed like blooming flowers beneath the sea, while clouds of colorful reef fish painted ever-changing patterns through the crystal-clear water, their scales flashing like scattered gemstones whenever the sunlight caught them.
For most outsiders, it would have been overwhelming.
For Caspian, it was simply home.
He moved through the reef with the effortless grace of someone who had spent nearly a century learning every current and every hidden passage within it. His powerful tail swept rhythmically behind him, barely disturbing the water despite his impressive size. At the same time, the pale strands of his long blond hair floated around his shoulders like drifting silk, the soft blue at the tips blending almost seamlessly with the surrounding sea. Everywhere he passed, the creatures of the reef acknowledged him without fear. Schools of butterflyfish curved naturally around him rather than fleeing, curious rays glided overhead before continuing on their journeys, and even cautious octopuses stretched inquisitive arms from their rocky dens as though greeting an old friend.
A tiny cleaner wrasse landed boldly upon his shoulder. Caspian smiled to himself but didn't move, allowing the little fish to inspect him at its leisure. "I know," he murmured softly, his voice carrying gently through the water. "You've decided I'm your favorite resting place again." The fish, unsurprisingly, offered no reply. It simply continued its important work.
After several peaceful moments, Caspian resumed his slow patrol, eventually stopping before a wide section of pale staghorn coral that had suffered visible damage from a recent storm. Entire branches had snapped away during the violent currents, leaving exposed white skeletons where vibrant coral had once flourished.
He reached out slowly. The moment his fingertips brushed against the coral, he closed his eyes. The surrounding water seemed to settle. His breathing slowed.
Although his gift could never perform miracles overnight, there was something undeniably comforting about encouraging life back into wounded places. Tiny coral polyps hidden within the surviving branches gradually stretched outward once more, almost imperceptibly reclaiming what had been lost. It was patient work—work that demanded years rather than days—but Caspian had never minded patience.
The ocean itself had taught him that nothing beautiful was ever rushed. He remained there quietly for several minutes before a sudden burst of frantic splashing echoed somewhere behind him. "Caspian!"
Before he could fully turn around, a small blur shot directly toward him at remarkable speed. The young merfolk clearly hadn't accounted for momentum. With an audible yelp, the child collided harmlessly into his shoulder before bouncing backward through the water, flailing dramatically in an attempt to regain balance.
Caspian reached out almost automatically, steadying them before they could spin into a patch of delicate coral. "You are becoming faster," he observed calmly, "but your steering still leaves quite a lot to be desired."
The child puffed out their cheeks. "I almost had it." The little merfolk laughed brightly before drifting beside him, absentmindedly twisting a strand of floating sea grass between their fingers.
For a few moments, they simply watched the reef together in comfortable silence. Then the child glanced upward. "...Caspian? Can I ask you something?"
"You've already asked me one thing." He said smugly.
"No..." They frowned dramatically. "A real question."
He chuckled quietly. "Very well."
The child hesitated much longer than before. Their cheerful expression gradually faded into something uncertain. "...Are sirens actually real?" The question surprised him enough that he blinked.
For a brief moment, the peaceful sounds of the reef seemed strangely distant. "Why would you ask that?"
"My dad told me not to swim near the western boundary anymore. They said someone saw something there." The child murmured.
"The western boundary? What kind of something?" Caspian raised his eyebrow, curious.
The child leaned closer, lowering their voice as though afraid the surrounding fish might overhear. "...A siren."
Caspian remained silent. He had expected many questions from curious children over the years. That had not been one of them.
"They said it happened only a few nights ago," the little merfolk continued eagerly. "One of the reef guards came back really nervous and told everyone that something huge disappeared into the deep water. And then my dad said that's where sirens live."
The child glanced uneasily toward the distant edge of the reef, where the vibrant coral slowly gave way to darker stone formations. "They told me sirens don't like merfolk."
Caspian folded his arms loosely. "I've heard stories."
"My dad said sirens eat us." The child seems a bit nervous when talking about this. The words lingered heavily between them. The child looked up at him with enormous, worried eyes. "...Is that true?"
Caspian didn't answer immediately. Instead, he allowed his gaze to wander toward the distant horizon where the warm turquoise waters gradually faded into darker blues.
He had heard the stories. Every child in Sunveil Reef had. Stories of creatures larger than any merman. Stories of haunting songs echoing through underwater canyons. Stories of hunters who watched silently from the darkness below. Stories told around sleeping dens to ensure adventurous children never wandered too far from home. But stories... Were not always true. "...I don't know," he admitted honestly.
"You don't?" The child huffed.
He slowly shook his head. "I've never seen one with my own eyes."
The child's eyebrows lifted. "But you're very old."
"I am," he chuckles, aware that the child didn't mean to sound rude.
"So shouldn't you know everything?"
A quiet laugh escaped him. "I'm afraid that's not how age works."
"So..." The child looked thoughtful. "They could be real?"
"They could." Caspian nods.
"And they could eat merfolk?"
"They might."
The little merfolk immediately drifted several feet closer until they were practically hiding behind Caspian's shoulder. "I don't ever want to meet one."
Caspian smiled faintly. "I imagine most people would agree with you."
"...Would you?" The question lingered unexpectedly. Would he? He looked once more toward the distant waters beyond the reef. "...I don't know."
────────────────────────────
The day passed by. The conversation should have faded from his thoughts. Instead... It followed him.
Every patrol brought him closer to the reef's borders, and every glimpse of the endless ocean beyond made the child's question return with renewed persistence. His elders had always discouraged unnecessary exploration beyond Sunveil Reef, not because they believed curiosity was wrong, but because the sea beyond their territory was unpredictable. Warm currents disappeared into icy depths, colorful coral gave way to barren cliffs, and familiar sea life was replaced by creatures few merfolk ever encountered.
Still... The uncertainty gnawed at him. He wasn't afraid of discovering that sirens existed. He was afraid that nearly a century had passed without him ever questioning whether the stories he'd grown up hearing had been true.
Three mornings later, Caspian found himself suspended silently at the very edge of Sunveil Reef, where vibrant coral abruptly surrendered to rocky shelves descending into darkness. Behind him, the reef stretched endlessly beneath warm golden light, alive with color and movement.
Ahead... The ocean became something entirely different. The water darkened almost immediately. The temperature dropped enough that he could feel it across his skin.
Towering forests of deep green kelp rose from jagged stone below, their long fronds swaying slowly within colder currents that seemed heavier than the warm waters of home. Sunlight still reached this far, but only faintly, leaving the seafloor cloaked beneath shifting shadows.
Caspian remained perfectly still for nearly a full minute. "...One hour." His voice sounded strangely quiet. "One hour, and then I return."
He wasn't hunting. He wasn't searching for trouble. He simply wanted to satisfy a curiosity that had quietly grown impossible to ignore. With one slow sweep of his powerful tail... He crossed the boundary. The difference was immediate.
The warm embrace of the reef disappeared behind him almost instantly, replaced by water so cold it wrapped around his body like liquid silk. The farther he descended, the more unfamiliar everything became.
Coral colonies disappeared entirely, replaced by towering black stone cliffs covered in dark algae and pale sponges unlike anything found within Sunveil Reef. Strange fish with translucent bodies slipped silently through narrow crevices, while distant shadows moved between underwater pillars far too large for him to identify.
The silence unsettled him most. The reef had always sung with life. This place merely watched. Despite himself, Caspian slowed his pace. Every instinct urged caution. Yet curiosity continued pulling him deeper. Minutes passed. Nothing happened. He almost laughed quietly to himself. Perhaps this entire journey truly had been inspired by nothing more than childhood legends.
Then... Movement. Far ahead. Large enough that it couldn't possibly belong to any ordinary sea creature. His body froze instinctively.
At first, all he could make out was a silhouette gliding effortlessly through the dim water beyond a cluster of immense stone pillars. The figure moved with astonishing grace despite its size, every motion smooth enough to make the surrounding currents appear weightless.
Then it turned. Caspian's breath caught. A tail. Massive. Elegant. Far larger than any merman's.
Scales shimmered beneath the faint light filtering down from above, reflecting shades of blue, silver, and black like polished obsidian beneath moonlight. Hair floated weightlessly around broad shoulders, blending almost seamlessly into the darkness surrounding them.
A siren. Real. Every childhood story rushed back into his mind all at once. His heartbeat thundered painfully inside his chest. Yet... Instead of appearing monstrous... They were breathtaking.
There was an almost unsettling beauty to them—something wild and ancient that felt inseparable from the deep ocean itself. Their features resembled those of merfolk closely enough to feel familiar, yet every detail seemed heightened somehow. Larger. Stronger. Older. Just looking at the siren made Caspian blush and become interested in them.
Power radiated from them without the slightest effort. Caspian couldn't stop staring. "...So they really do exist..." His whisper dissolved into the surrounding water.
Only after several long moments did he finally force himself to move. Slowly. Carefully.
He slipped behind a towering curtain of kelp and seaweed, using the dense vegetation to shield himself from view. Every movement became deliberate as he quietly began retreating the same way he had come.
There was no reason to stay. His curiosity had been answered. The stories were true. Now he simply needed to leave before discovering whether the rest of those stories were true as well.
One careful stroke of his tail. Then another. His breathing remained shallow. Don't look back. Just keep swimming. He had almost convinced himself he was unnoticed when a tiny school of silver fish suddenly erupted from the kelp beside him, scattering in every direction as though startled by his presence.
His heart immediately sank. No... He increased his pace without thinking. Not enough to appear panicked. Just enough to disappear quietly. Behind him... The water shifted. Not violently. Not loudly. Simply... Closer. Far too quickly.
Every instinct screamed. Before he could even turn— A large hand closed firmly around his wrist. The grip was impossibly strong. Not painful. Simply absolute.
The sudden force halted him so effortlessly that his entire body turned halfway around within the current, his free hand instinctively reaching toward the arm restraining him before freezing in place.
His pulse hammered inside his ears. Slowly... Almost reluctantly... He lifted his eyes.
The siren was standing directly before him.
Close enough now that the difference in their size became almost overwhelming. Caspian had always been considered unusually large among his own people, yet beside the siren he suddenly felt painfully small, as though the ocean itself had shaped them on entirely different scales.
His throat tightened. Every terrifying story he had ever heard suddenly felt far less imaginary. Still... The siren hadn't attacked. They hadn't bared their teeth. They hadn't dragged him deeper into the darkness. They had only stopped him from leaving.
Caspian swallowed carefully before forcing himself to speak, his normally calm voice noticeably quieter than usual. "...I wasn't intending to cause trouble." He paused, briefly glancing toward the hand still wrapped securely around his wrist before looking back up again. "...Though I suppose crossing into someone else's territory without permission was rather discourteous."
The siren simply continued watching him. His heart refused to slow. "I came because I was curious...That was clearly unwise." His gaze drifted once more toward the unbreakable grip around his wrist. Then back to the siren. "If you'll allow it..." He managed a small, nervous smile despite the pounding in his chest. "...I'd very much like to return home now." He felt flustered from being watched by this attractive creature in front of him, but at the same time, terrified, not wanting to be eaten.
