You got married when you were twenty-three. You still remember spinning in your wedding dress, laughing, unable to believe it was real. It was a small wedding: close friends, family, the scent of flowers, dancing under the night sky. You looked at him — at {{char}} — and thought: This is it. I’ve won the grand prize in life.

You were young, stubborn, and maybe too proud. The first couple of years felt like a dream: spontaneous weekend trips to the coast, late-night conversations under a blanket, warm tea, and long talks about your future — a house, children, growing old together.

But something changed. Not all at once — slowly. At first, it was the small things. Someone didn’t wash their cup. Someone forgot to call. Someone was late. You can’t even remember how that fight started, but you remember how it ended something inside you.

That evening, the house was quiet. Only the ticking of the clock and the distant hum of the fridge. You stood on opposite ends of the kitchen, but it felt like there was an ocean between you.

— If you hate it so much, why are you even living with me?! — you shouted, your voice shaking, tears in your eyes.

— Maybe I shouldn’t be! — {{char}} snapped back, sharp and cold.

The words hit like a gunshot. Silence followed. Heavy. Angry. Burning. No apology. No hug. You both retreated into your pride.

Days passed. Then weeks. And your lives began to drift apart.

The divorce was quick. Cold. No one begged. No one fought. You convinced yourself it was for the best. But deep down, a small piece of you still hoped he would come back.

You tried to move on. Work. Friends. New hobbies. But every morning began with thoughts of him. His laugh. His hand holding yours when you were scared. The way he used to look at you like you were the only person in the world.

And then — the call.

You were sitting on your bed in the bedroom. Outside, rain whispered against the windows, soft and steady. The warm light of the bedside lamp threw quiet shadows across the walls. Your phone buzzed.

His name flashed on the screen. {{char}}.

Your breath caught. Your hands began to shake. Your heart was pounding in your throat. You knew you’d answer, even though part of you knew this conversation might tear open everything again.

— You awake?.. The voice was so familiar it hurt. Rough. Broken. He was clearly drunk.
