Carrot Bun is a unicorn wagie mare. She tries her best, but can be quite jaded and often feels like her life has no purpose.
Her cutie mark is a hot-dog with a carrot replacing the sausage, since they are ponies. A "Carrot-Dog" if you will, or a "Hot-Carrot".
She's a regular concession worker at a convention center in Manehattan and her job sucks, even more when she's forced to wear a stupid costume, but it pays the bills. She's not unhappy per se, but she feels like something's missing and she has no real goal to aspire to.
Cutie marks are supposed to reflect a pony's purpose and calling. The universe or some horseapples made it that she would sell junkfood for the rest of her life.
Imagine being a little filly, waiting every day for your cutie mark to appear, talking with your friends who have already got one, imagining all the possible futures you'd have, each more wonderful than the last.
Only to get a carrot in a bun (not the sexual kind, perv).
Destiny decided that you'll be a wagie. Forever.
That sucks. And it doesn't make sense. Is she missing something?
Outside of work, she's not sure of what to do with herself. She doesn't really have a passion, no real calling, and that bothers her more than she lets it show. It seems all her friends know what to do and have their lives planned out. But her? Not so much.
Her coat is salmon pink and her mane and tail are violet with darker purple outlines. Her mane is pulled back into a loose bun (Work policy) and her tail is gathered into a thick, curly ponytail.

Carrot is doing her usual mindless task of putting condiments on hay-dogs. Just another day at the grease mines.
Or it would be, if it were a normal day. No, today they're hosting a whole convention for that Daring Dolt book series.
What's so great about her anyway? She's read the books once, and they're about the most implausible tripe she can imagine. Even when Daring fails, she somehow gets what she wants in the end, no matter what. The universe revolves around her. She doesn't have to worry about pointless stuff, like washing dishes or sweeping floors or serving foalish adults surrounded by fake tiki idols and stupid cardboard stand-ups.
Another one of them walks up, with his little pith helmet and his pile of signed books.
"Welcome to the Lost Temple Juice Hut, where every sip is an adventure!"
Kill her. Even if she's already dead inside.
"What's good?" he says, scanning the menu.
Nothing. "Oh, all the cocktails are quite popular." Carrot rattles off the list. "We've got the Sapphire Stone, Quest for the Ruby Heart, the Griffon's Goblet, Shards of the Mirror Moon..."
"How about a mix of the last two? And a little straw."
"Daring, aren't you?" she says as her horn lights up.
He smiles. "Oh! Haha, I get it!"
She makes sure her smile is nice and bright. "That'll be five bits, sir."
"Here you go, and keep the change. Nice headdress, by the way!"
"Thank you. Please come again!" And when he turns around, her smile slips. Her eyes move over to the next one in line.
"Welcome to the Lost Temple Juice Hut, where every sip is an adventure!"

"So this here is where we make the cocktails, we follow the instructions on the wall. We don't add stuff to the drinks. Last mare I had put strawberries in everything, said they were good but they were also over budget."
Carrot Bun waves a hoof at the mixology station behind her, then points across the room. "That over there is the kitchen and grill. The boss hires a new cook every two weeks for some reason, we're not allowed back there. We are only to use the fryer for the hay fries and put together the burgers. Hayburgers, veggie burgers, hot-carrots, that kind of stuff." She takes a box filled with buns from under a counter. "Those go there, along with the mustard, ketchup and 'spicy' sauce. It's not actually hot, but don't tell the customers. There's the soda fountain, it works if you slam it enough."
She uses her magic to grab two aprons from a drawer and gives one to her trainee.
"Oh, and back there is the ice-cream machine. It's broken, so don't bother. Any questions?"

"Carrot, we need to talk..." her boss said.
A sinking feeling in her stomach told her everything she needed to know.
"You're... let go."
She looked at her boss in disbelief. She worked hard! Always did what was asked of her. Was never late...
"But, but... Why?!" Carrot Bun cried out.
"You were overheard speaking negatively about our products and about customers, multiple times. That's really not acceptable, Carrot..."
She tried to protest, to explain that nopony could possibly have heard what she was saying because she always muttered under her breath. But it was already too late. She was out of there, her job gone, the last vestiges of her self-worth leaving with it.
It wasn't like she liked this job, but she did take a bit of pride in doing it well. That and it paid the overpriced Manehattan rent. Without it, she'd probably end up having to go back to her parents' house at best...
She sits on a bench in a nearby park, watching elderly ponies feed pigeons. What now? Maybe she could open her own food shop? With her savings and a small loan...
She's so lost in thought that she doesn't notice the silhouette approaching.

Right! As if somepony would give a loan to a mare with no income and only minimum-wage experience...
...
Wait!
She's heard of this rich eccentric with a ridiculous number of bits who loves to just give them away to mares in her situation.
Which is a bit suspicious... But if the ponice aren't doing anything about it, then it can't be that bad.
She's going to give it a shot, at least!
Knock knock.

Manehattan: The city that never sleeps, except between two and five a.m., Tuesday to Thursday inclusive, when it half-closes an eyelid and drools a little.
A city like no other, except perhaps Fillydelphia, with its bustling streets and bustling ponies who bustle.
And on this day, the streets are even more bustled than usual.
Because today is the annual Manehattan Street Food Competition.
This is the city's premier showcase for those brave culinary entrepreneurs who have decided that the world of conventional restauranting is not for them, or for whom conventional restauranting has decided it is not.
Carrot Bun is one such pony. She's been stuck in a dead-end job at the Hay and Feed Cooperative, her cutie mark of a simple carrot bun a daily taunt, reminding her of a destiny she's yet to fulfill.
The borrowed street food cart is her ticket to a slightly less depressing future where she's her own mare and only a failure by her own hoof!
She has her grill, her buns (of the bread variety), and her secret sauce.
If enough ponies like her stuff and if she takes home a ribbon or three, she might be able to buy her own cart, sell her carrots at lunch...
The dream is small, but it's hers.
She could do it! What are the other stands like anyway?
"Yeeehaw! Welcome one and all to Sweet Apple Acres stand! Came all the way from Ponyville with the best darn apple products in Equestria, we did! Care to try some apple cider?"
"Come try our Fluffle-Puff-inspired cotton candy! It's made from real clouds!"
"Pizza! Get your hoof-lickin' pizza from the Neighapolitano brothers!"
Buck!
