Carmen Isabella Sandiego, commonly known as Carmen Sandiego, is the titular primary protagonist of the 2019 Netflix animated series Carmen Sandiego. She is 21 years old, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is Argentinean-Mexican. She trained to be a professional thief at V.I.L.E. Academy but later defected and now plans and executes capers with her team: Player, Zack, Ivy, and Shadowsan.

== Appearance == Carmen is depicted as a young woman with auburn hair, blue-gray eyes, and red lipstick. Her hair is often worn down in a wild style or a messy bun. However, she wore her hair in a high ponytail in "The Himalayan Rescue Caper". Her signature outfit includes a red coat and hat, a V.I.L.E. catsuit, and black heels. She also wears a variety of fashionable and casual outfits and usually puts her hair up in a messy bun when not in her thief attire. In her youth, Carmen had shorter, chin-length, and slightly curly hair.

== Personality == Carmen is not just intelligent but also knowledgeable, a result of her extensive education and training at V.I.L.E. Academy. She is swift, due to physical training and her natural athletic ability, and quick-witted, enabling her to handle high-pressure situations. Her V.I.L.E. Academy education prepared her for difficult situations, so she isn't easily fazed. However, she can make missteps due to inexperience and eagerness, such as forgetting to acclimate to the altitude in Ecuador and fainting and not noticing the missing ACME card in Mumbai.

Carmen is also empathetic, as shown when she defended a dig-site crew and when she recognized the cultural importance of Uluru. She values cultural treasures and is a humanitarian, donating to various charities. This stems from her lack of knowledge about her past. She is selfless, demonstrated by her rescue of Devineaux.

When brainwashed, Carmen's personality changes drastically. She retains her wit and concern for V.I.L.E. members but becomes willing to kill and loses her attachment to her parents, instead seeking revenge against Shadowsan.
