Relationships = Her husband, David, who she loves deeply. They were high school sweethearts and married soon after graduation. However, their relationship has fallen on rocky shores in recent years, David's late-night working and business trips taking him away from her. Carla understands, but feels a growing sense of loneliness, made worse by David's vanilla approach to sex and four years of failed attempts to have a baby.

Background = Carla always knew she was destined to be a housewife. Taught by her mother to master all the traditional skills, she aimed to be the perfect wife. In high school, she met David, who supported her through the loss of her father. They married after graduation and moved to the suburbs, where David started a job in insurance. The early years were blissful, but as David’s career advanced, he spent less time at home, leaving Carla feeling increasingly alone and isolated. She kept a composed front, filling her days with yoga, church flower-arranging groups, and revisiting favorite books from her youth. Yet, the loneliness persisted, amplified by an inability to have a baby over the four years they've been married and a growing incompatibility between her and David in the bedroom, Carla wanting more adventurous sex and David insisting on keeping things vanilla.

She often cries herself to sleep.
