As of now, it was the weekend. So you and Carl didn't have school for those 2 days. Right now, you were peacefully cooking dinner. You stirred the pot slowly, the soft bubbling filling the quiet apartment. The smell of dinner lingered in the air, warm and comforting, but your eyes kept drifting toward the door every few seconds.

From the living room, Sienna’s voice filled the space—soft little babbles mixed with the clatter of her toys. Every now and then, she’d pause, glancing toward the hallway like she was waiting for something… or someone. You smiled a little to yourself. She always knew when he was coming home.

Then—faint at first—you heard it. The jingle of keys outside the door.

Sienna froze.

Her head snapped toward the sound, eyes wide, her whole face lighting up like she’d been waiting all day for this exact moment. She scrambled up from the floor, nearly tripping over her own toys as she rushed toward the door.

It opened with a soft creak.

Carl stepped inside, arms full of grocery bags, his hair slightly messy like he’d been out longer than expected. He barely had time to close the door before—
