Shinobu is a petite, young woman with a slender build and a fairly pale complexion. She has large eyes that lack pupils, only a haze of gradient purple, making her eyes appear similar to those of insects, and pink lips. She has raven-black wavy hair that fades into a dark purple hue at the ends, styled at the back of her head into a flat yakai-maki bun fastened with a white butterfly ornament with a light purple rimmed, along with turquoise speckled spots. She has center-split, ear-length, voluminous curtain bangs that flow down to frame the sides of her face, with two slightly thinner chin-length locks of hair in front of her ears below them. By the time of Hashira Training, both her bangs and locks are visibly more refined and lightly longer. She stands out among the more physically imposing Hashira due to her diminutive stature and small frame, which is later reinforced by her mentioning that she does not possess enough physical strength to decapitate a demon as the others do. According to Zenitsu Agatsuma, Shinobu is so cute that she could make a living on her looks alone. Shinobu wears a dark purple-tinted variation of the standard Demon Slayer uniform. It consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath the jacket, she wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. Her long, saggy tattsuke-hakama pants are also tinted dark purple and are fastened at the waist with a white belt. Her legs are wrapped with a pair of unique white kyahan—with butterfly-patterned design—that fades from pale turquoise to pink gradient around the lower legs, and tied securely with white ribbons. Her tabi socks match the dark purple color of her uniform. Over her uniform, she wears a distinctive white haori that once belonged to her late older sister Kanae. The haori features a butterfly wing pattern inspired by the Monarch Butterfly, with a color gradient that fades from white into pale turquoise and then pink on the sleeves and hem, that are cuffed with a black trim, with white-pale turquoise dots, resembling butterfly wing edges. For footwear, she wears white zōri sandals with purple straps, and she conceals a hidden blade in the right sandal—used as a last resort weapon. When Shinobu was fourteen, her appearance was altered slightly. Her chin-length strands of hair in front of her ears were tucked in and she had a different Demon Slayer uniform consisting of silver buttons and cloth a darker shade of purple. She also sported a plain white haori over it. Shinobu displays a bright, friendly and cheerful demeanor, always having an easygoing smile on her face regardless of the situation she is in. However, her outward behavior is shown very quickly to be a façade. This is displayed in the way she enjoys teasing others, to the point of being rather sardonic about it, enjoying most notably to pick on Giyu Tomioka. Despite her relaxed exterior and her initial claim of wanting to get along with demons, she can be rather cruel towards them, which is seen when she kills the Spider Daughter after giving her false hope of helping her, and immediately attempting to kill Nezuko Kamado without giving her brother Tanjiro a chance to prove that she was harmless to humans. Later on, she is shown to have a more compassionate side towards the Kamado siblings after hearing their full story. It is later revealed that Shinobu's outwardly calm and tranquil disposition is worn as a mask, as she holds an intense hatred for demons due to the loss of her beloved sister Kanae at a young age, along with the deaths of her parents, almost all of her Tsuguko, and the families of her apprentices at the Butterfly Mansion. This hatred is so strong that she is in a near-constant state of extreme anger,[7] which is sensed by Tanjiro when the two held a conversation. Her desire for revenge rendered her unable to live the normal life her elder sister had wished upon her, instead devoting the entirety of her energy to defeating demons. During her battle against Doma, Shinobu reveals that she suffers from an inferiority complex due to her inferior physical abilities compared to her fellow Hashira, having been jealous of them for possessing taller or more muscular bodies than her and cursing her own body for not developing further to make her more effective in combat. Shinobu's younger self had a more brash, blunt and uncomplicated demeanor as seen when she rescued Kanao Tsuyuri, whom she had a negative attitude towards raising at first. After the death of Kanae, however, Shinobu began to outwardly behave more like her older sister and eventually developed her gentle, positive attitude and mannerisms to match while internally holding in her rage, which she later clarifies is fueled by her desire to continuously display the smile that her sister loved. Though never shown onscreen, she has a notable temper, namely in the way that makes even the loud and brash Inosuke Hashibira take notice. Mitsuri is a curvaceous young woman of pale skin complexion, whose slender, graceful build belies her deceptive muscular strength. She stands slightly taller than average. She has large round, pale green eyes with long black eyelashes and many notable white sparkles reflecting light off of them, a small beauty mark beneath each of them, and light pink lips. Mitsuri has long and visibly thick sakura pink hair that fades into a lime green color at the halfway point, which she wears in three thick braids. She has five shorter, choppy clumps hanging over her face as voluminous bangs, the tips lime green as well. She has been called beautiful and charming on multiple occasions. At the age of seventeen, Mitsuri once dyed her hair black in an attempt to appear "normal" during her second marriage proposal. Mitsuri wears a heavily customized version of the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, which is black in the manga and tinted light plum in the anime. Her outfit consists of a tight-fitting button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath this, she wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. Due to the snug fit of her uniform, both the chest area of the jacket and her undershirt are left unbuttoned and open, exposing her cleavage. Instead of the standard tattsuke-hakama pants, Mitsuri wears a short pleated mini-skirt, maintaining the color and fabric style of her uniform. Her waist is fastened with the standard white belt. Over her uniform, she wears a plain white haori—a gift given to her by Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira and her mentor. For legwear, she dons a pair of lime green thigh-high stockings with vertical stripes and teal cuffs at the top. These were a gift from Obanai Iguro, the Serpent Hashira. Her footwear consists of white zōri sandals with pink straps, tied at the front in decorative bows. While at the Swordsmith Village, Mitsuri wore a kimono with floral designs and a haori. During her battle with Zohakuten, Mitsuri manifest her Demon Slayer Mark, located just below her neck and near her left clavicle. It appears as two red hearts positioned opposite from each other, aligned by two red teardrop-shaped spots in the middle. During her and the other remaining Hashira's fight against Muzan, Mitsuri's left and back braids are cut off by Muzan Kibutsuji's attacks, now shortened to shoulder length, and part of her left ear is also torn at the side. Mitsuri also loses both of her arms in the process of ripping off Muzan's left arm. Mitsuri is a very emotional, passionate, and jovial individual who constantly compliments and swoons over her comrades in her head, likely a contributing factor towards her nickname as "the Hashira of Love." Although she can be shy and is easily flustered, she is shown to be a very kind and caring person, always showing others her love as befits her Hashira title. Besides her rather emotional personality, Mitsuri can come off as somewhat childlike at times and prone to exaggerated over-reactions. For example, when she is asked to explain the process of obtaining the Demon Slayer Mark, she describes it using bizarre onomatopoeia. She also can get rather excitable, grabbing her friends for a big group hug after the battle against Gyokko and Hantengu. Given her desperation for marriage, Mitsuri decided to become a member of the Corps with the purpose of finding a suitable husband stronger than her, a rather difficult task given the astounding level of her physical strength.[9] Upon joining the Demon Slayer Corps, she was happy, enjoying her time being praised and being with her senior or junior colleagues. However, as her colleagues died one after another, she couldn't help but tremble in anger and sadness at times.[10] She felt an immense amount of guilt for her reasoning behind becoming a Demon Slayer to the point where she ate much less than her typical meals. However, she was able to move past those feelings with the help of Shinobu Kocho and Obanai Iguro. Despite her gentle demeanor, Mitsuri will show no mercy in the face of demons, instead expressing such sentiments with a fierce tone. She showcases a great amount of dedication to the Demon Slayers' cause. Despite being slashed by Muzan at an early stage in their battle and taken out by Obanai, she was determined enough to return and fight, saying she wants to be of use and not drag everyone else down. Mitsuri liked Obanai for a long time, but she was not able to confess though, as her trauma from her past marriage interviews held her back. In her final moments, she begged for him to come back from battle and not get himself killed. This alludes to her love for him, the person she can finally feel for and be romantically loved by. She shares his hope that they could reincarnate, meet each other and get married in another life.
