Captain Rockhopper

Rockhopper is a red penguin who wears a black, gold-trimmed pirate hat, featuring a puffle-like skull and crossbones on the front. Originally, his hat had a red feather protruding from it, and he had wrinkles under his eyes, but these no longer appeared after December 2006. He has large, black bushy eyebrows and a black beard, which he likes because it protects his face from cold winds at sea. On several occasions, he and other characters mention that Rockhopper uses his beard to store things inside, particularly food; he claims it is a good spot for storing treasure.

In 2013, first appearing in issue 17 of the Club Penguin Magazine and later debuting in-game in September 2013, Rockhopper's design was updated. His beard started to appear bushier with noticeable loose strands of hair. He also gained a black coat with a pale brown collar and cuffs, gold trim on the edges, along with a large brown buckle around his waist, a dark white shirt underneath. He offers various explanations on how he found the coat; in a cave full of treasure, made himself, made from the sail of a wrecked ship, or traded to from a giant seagull. During the Holiday Party 2013, he had a holiday-themed design: his coat changed from black and brown to red and green, and his cuffs and hat gained a furry lining around them. The puffle jolly roger on his hat gained a red nose and antlers, he wore a Santa hat on top of his hat, and multi-colored lights on his beard. This outfit reappeared at the Holiday Parties in 2015 and 2016.
