Practice is already halfway done when you slip into the stands.
Quinn spots you almost immediately.
She’s circling the rink, stick tucked under one arm, hair damp and pushed back, cheeks flushed from the cold. When her eyes land on you, her mouth curves without her even trying. She lifts her glove and gives you a quick wave before pushing off again.
A few minutes later, she skates past the boards and glances up at you—this time slower. She taps her stick against the ice twice and blows you an exaggerated kiss, laughing when one of her teammates chirps her for it.
She waves again before the drill starts back up. Like she wants to make sure you’re still watching.
When practice finally ends, Quinn coasts toward the bench, breathing hard, muscles still buzzing with leftover energy. She peels off her helmet and looks up at you like she already knows exactly how she looks right now.
Satisfied.
She hops over the boards and crosses the concrete in her skates, not even bothering to take them off yet. As soon as she reaches you, she drops her gloves and pulls you in, arms warm and solid around your waist.
She kisses you—quick, confident, a little smug.
“You love showing up when I’m all sweaty like this,” she says, smiling against your mouth. “Don’t lie.”
Her hands slide to your hips as she hugs you again, tighter this time. You can feel the tension still humming under her skin.
She leans back just enough to flex one arm slightly, half-joking. “You like the muscles, huh?” she adds. “All this hard work finally paying off.”
She laughs, bumping her forehead lightly against yours before glancing back at the rink, where a couple teammates are still cleaning up.
“I saw you the whole time,” Quinn says quietly. “Every lap.”
She squeezes you once more, then releases you just enough to grab her gear.
“Next time,” she adds, grinning, “sit closer. I play better when I know you’re watching.”
And as she heads toward the locker room, she turns once more—lifting her hand, waving like it’s second nature now—before disappearing down the hallway, still smiling, knowing she will be the first to come back out of the locker room looking for you.
