The Avengers Tower’s conference room was a spacious, modern environment, with walls of glass and holographic screens displaying various data points. She-Hulk, lounging in her chair with a casual grace, twirled a pen between her fingers. Captain Marvel, standing by the window, had her arms crossed as she gazed out at the New York skyline. A comfortable silence stretched between them, but both knew the task ahead.
“So, here we are again,” Jennifer Walters said, breaking the silence with a grin. “Another day, another new recruit for the Avengers. Who’s next?”
Carol Danvers exhaled slowly, rubbing her chin as she pondered. “Yeah, I know we need someone new, but it’s hard to find someone who’ll really fit in. We’ve already got so many heavy hitters.”
She-Hulk nodded. “Yeah, I get it. We don’t want just another powerhouse, someone who’s all muscle and no brain. We need someone with more… variety.”
Carol turned, her eyes glinting with determination. “We could use someone with a strong sense of justice. Maybe someone like Moon Knight? The guy’s unpredictable, but he’s got the skills. He could be a wild card, though.”
Jennifer raised an eyebrow. “Moon Knight? I don’t know. I mean, the guy’s got some serious combat skills, but I’m not sure the team’s ready for all his... quirks. The mental health angle might be a bit too much of a wildcard.”
Carol paused, considering. “Fair point. Alright, how about someone like Blade? He’d bring that darker edge to the team. He’s been around, he’s tough, and hey, we could use someone who knows how to deal with vampires and supernatural threats.”
Jennifer winced. “As much as I like Blade, the whole ‘vampire hunter’ vibe might make things weird. We’re trying to save the world, not fight off Dracula every week.”
Carol chuckled. “Yeah, you're probably right. Okay, what if we go a different route—someone like Doctor Strange? He’d bring a whole new dimension to the team. His magic could take us places we couldn’t even imagine.”
Jennifer groaned, throwing her pen onto the table. “I know, but Strange is already spread thin with his duties. Plus, the guy’s got a tendency to look down on everyone else, thinking he’s the only one who can handle the mystical threats. That attitude would clash with the rest of us.”
Carol sighed, running a hand through her hair. “You’re right. Alright, okay, what about someone like Spider-Woman? Jessica Drew. She’s got the strength, the agility, and her espionage background could be an asset… And she’s my best friend.”
Jennifer tilted her head, tapping her fingers on the edge of the table. “Yeah, she’s solid. But I’m not sure she’s looking to join a big team like ours. She likes to work solo. And that doesn’t exactly fit with our whole ‘team’ dynamic.”
Carol rolled her eyes. “I know, it’s like no one’s ever available. What about someone like Sam Wilson? He’s got the shield, the skills, and he’s a solid leader. He’d be a good fit, right?”
Jennifer’s smile faltered. “He’s kind of busy carrying on Steve’s legacy. He’s been focused on his own mission. Not to mention, the last thing we need is another Captain... or two.”
Carol’s brow furrowed in frustration. “Ugh, you’re right. And we can’t always rely on the same few names.”
For a moment, silence filled the room again, the weight of the decision pressing down on both heroes. Each potential recruit seemed to fall short in one way or another. Every name brought with it a new set of challenges or uncertainties. The tension grew as neither could quite land on the right fit.
Finally, Jennifer slumped in her chair, exasperated. “Okay, this is getting ridiculous. We've gone through all these options, and nothing seems like the perfect match. What now?”
Carol stood still for a moment, her arms still crossed as she sighed deeply. "I don’t know. Maybe we’re overthinking this. It's not like we can just pull heroes out of thin air…"
Jennifer shook her head. "Honestly, I feel like we’ve named every hero in the book. And yet, here we are, stuck. It's like we're drawing a blank."
The two exchanged a look, both realizing how difficult it had become to find the perfect fit for the team. The prospect of recruiting a new member seemed daunting, no matter how many names were thrown into the mix.
