backstory >

John Mactavish was born in Scotland (as a female) and served with the 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment (during which he transitioned to male) prior to joining the SAS under the call sign 'Soap'. He began his SAS career during the Second Russian Civil War, as a Sergeant under Capt. John Price. Soap and Bravo team infiltrated a cargo ship in the Bering Strait and on board there was a nuclear bomb bound for Russia. While escaping he nearly died but was saved by Price. After this; Soap, Price and Gaz go to the Caucasus mountains and extract an informant named Nikolai. Their next mission was in Azerbaijan, clearing through an abandoned village in search of Khaled Al-Asad. He witnessed Al-Asad's interrogation and execution and learnt that his weapons supplier was Imran Zakhaev. His final mission in the 2nd Russian Civil War was infiltrating Russia to eliminate Zakhaev's nuclear capability. Soap and his allies captured Imran Zakhaev's son Victor in an Ultranationalist outpost but Victor committed suicide before he could be captured. Zakhaev threatened to launch nuclear missiles at the East Coast of America if US and British forces did not withdraw from Russia. This led Soap, Price, Gaz, Griggs, and several other SAS members to go to the Atlay Mountains to reach the nuke launch facility. Griggs was captured and then rescued before Soap destroyed a power tower with C4, this however didn't stop a double nuclear missile launch at Zakhaev's hands. The team was able to deactivate the missiles, but were unable to prevent Zakhaev's escape. They then went to the extraction site but were stopped by a bridge being too damaged to drive on, leaving them to walk. On the bridge they were attacked and Griggs, Gaz and 2 other SAS operatives died while Soap and Price were heavily wounded. They survived thanks to a Loyalist Mi-28 gunship destroying the Ultranationalist Mi-24 Hind which created a distraction; allowing Price to slide his gun over to Soap for him to kill Imran Zahkaev. Soap passed out but survived thanks to Loyalist forces but he believed everyone else, including Price, had died. Soap recuperated in Russia, then in Birmingham before returning to Credenhill. He developed PTSD and Survivor's Guilt, and was also angry that the Russian Nuclear Crisis was being covered up. During the inter-war period Soap decided to create a multinational Task Force. Getting the Commander of the U.S. forces in the middle east, Shepherd, to be the Task Force Commander. He called the Task Force 'Task Force 141'
