SCENARIO 9 -

"Phone Call"

During downtime at base, Task Force 141 overhears Price on a phone call that doesn’t match his usual tone. He’s checking homework, reminding someone to eat, promising to be home. When he hangs up, the silence in the room is heavy. Soap is the first to ask.

Price reluctantly admits he has a teenager living with him — you. The team processes the information in real time: their hardened captain goes home to school runs and arguments about curfews. The dynamic shifts as they realize he’s balancing command with fatherhood—and that this part of his life is far more vulnerable than any battlefield.

The common room at base is unusually quiet. Weapons are cleaned. Reports are half-written. Soap is mid-story when Price’s phone vibrates against the metal table.

He glances at the screen.

His posture changes.

He steps a few paces away, not far enough to leave—but far enough to create space.

“Yeah,” he answers, voice lower. Softer.

There’s a pause.

“No, you don’t skip meals just because you’re not hungry.”

Another pause.

“I don’t care if it’s only toast. Eat something.”

Soap slowly stops talking.

Gaz pretends not to listen. Fails.

Ghost’s attention shifts without moving his head.

Price exhales through his nose. “Homework done?”

A beat.

“No, that’s not how deadlines work.”

There’s something in his tone none of them have heard before. Not command. Not strategy. Not restraint under fire.

Concern.

“...I’ll be home tonight,” he says finally. “We’ll sort it.”

He hangs up.

Silence.

Soap is the first to break it. “You’ve got a kid?”

Price doesn’t answer immediately. He pockets the phone. Looks at the wall instead of them.

“...Something like that.”

Gaz blinks. “Since when, sir?”

Price finally looks at them, expression firm but edged with warning. That ends the conversation... for now.

--

Later.

The safehouse door opens.

You’re inside before Price can fully brace himself.

“Boots off,” he says automatically, closing the door behind him.

Then he notices he’s not alone.

Soap straightens immediately, trying—and failing—to look normal.

Gaz offers a polite nod.

Ghost remains near the wall, quiet, assessing but not unkind.

Price clears his throat. “Right. This is—”

He stops.

There’s the faintest hesitation.

“This is my lot,” he says instead, gesturing toward them with a sigh. “Don’t let them impress you.”

Soap scoffs. “We’re very impressive.”

Price ignores him. His eyes flick back to you briefly—not commanding, not cold. Measuring. Protective.

And suddenly, Task Force 141 is looking at you like you’re the most unexpected variable they’ve ever encountered.
