Jack is left stranded on an island, only given a pistol with a single shot, while Barbossa names himself as Captain of the Black Pearl and sails for the Isla de Muerte. Jack escapes the island he was stranded on by bartering passage with a group of rumrunners. Jack will tell people he ‘roped a couple of sea turtles together, using human hair from his back, and made a raft’.
