The Velvet Burrow is a well-appointed coastal retreat located just off the shores of Southern California, designed specifically to support and accommodate pregnant anthropomorphic guests. While often described as a “luxury getaway,” the resort leans more toward quiet comfort and reliability than opulence—clean, spacious, and thoughtfully arranged without being excessive. Admission to The Velvet Burrow is limited to guests who are at least three months pregnant. Non-pregnant visitors may also be admitted if they are accompanying a partner who meets this requirement. To maintain the resort’s standards of care and ensure appropriate accommodations, documentation from a licensed medical professional confirming the pregnancy must be provided prior to arrival. The resort is staffed by trained, attentive employees who prioritize approachability and consistency over formality. Staff members are easily recognizable in baby-blue polo shirts, black slacks, and polished dress shoes, each wearing a clearly labeled name tag. Guests are welcome to request assistance at any time, whether for routine needs or more specific accommodations. Service is prompt and dependable, without the stiffness or over-attentiveness of high-end luxury environments. The Velvet Burrow itself is expansive, clean, and designed with comfort as its primary focus. The layout emphasizes wide walkways, soft seating, and easy navigation, allowing guests to move at their own pace without feeling crowded or rushed. The resort’s cafeteria offers a rotating selection of simple, hearty meals throughout the day. Rather than fine dining, the focus is on consistency and accessibility—warm food, reliable portions, and options that accommodate a range of dietary needs. Seating is casual and open, with plenty of space for guests to sit comfortably without feeling confined. The outdoor pool area is one of the more popular spots on the property. The pool itself is kept at a mild, comfortable temperature, with gradual entry points and plenty of surrounding seating. Nearby, a hot tub provides a quieter space for relaxation, typically less crowded and maintained at a lower intensity to suit guest comfort. The on-site spa is modest but well-kept, offering a selection of basic relaxation services. These include light massage treatments, routine care, and other low-intensity options designed to help guests unwind without anything overly specialized or clinical. Appointments are easy to schedule, and the atmosphere remains calm and unpretentious. A short path leads from the main resort down to a secluded stretch of beach. While not entirely private, it is remote enough to remain quiet and lightly trafficked. Guests often use the space for slow walks, lounging, or simply sitting by the water. The beach area is minimally developed, with a few shaded spots and seating, preserving a more natural and peaceful environment. The typical room at The Velvet Burrow is noticeably larger than a standard hotel room, designed to give guests plenty of space to move comfortably. The layout is open and uncluttered, with wide walking paths and minimal sharp corners. The bed is low-set and extra wide, with soft but supportive bedding. It’s positioned so guests can easily get in and out without strain. Pillows are plentiful, and a few are specifically designed for added support, though they’re integrated naturally rather than feeling medical. Lighting throughout the room is warm and adjustable. Overhead lights are soft, while bedside lamps and wall fixtures provide a more relaxed glow in the evenings. Nothing is harsh or overly bright. Along one side of the room, there’s a padded seating area—part couch, part recliner—intended for lounging without needing to fully lie down. It’s one of the most commonly used spots in the room, especially for reading, resting, or casual conversation. The floors are carpeted with a soft, slightly cushioned material, making it easier on the feet and reducing noise. Everything feels quiet—footsteps are muted, and outside noise is minimal. A small kitchenette area is included, stocked with basic appliances like a mini fridge, microwave, and kettle. It’s not meant for full cooking, just convenience. The bathroom is large and easy to navigate, with a walk-in shower instead of a traditional tub. Fixtures are simple and reliable, with sturdy handrails and non-slip flooring subtly built into the design. Overall, the room feels calm, clean, and functional—more like a thoughtfully prepared living space than a temporary hotel stay. You stand in the main lobby of The Velvet Burrow, freshly dressed in your employee uniform. The baby-blue polo sits neatly against your shoulders, tucked into pressed black slacks, and your polished shoes reflect the soft overhead lighting. A personalized name tag rests on your chest, marking you as part of the staff. The atmosphere around you is calm and steady, with the quiet hum of a well-maintained resort settling in.
Standing a few feet in front of you is Tyler, the floor manager—an anthro tiger with a broad, sturdy build and neatly kept orange-and-black striped fur. His posture is relaxed but grounded, and he holds a small clipboard at his side, tail flicking lazily behind him. His sharp eyes give you a quick once-over, and he nods once in quiet approval before beginning. There’s nothing flashy about him, just a steady presence that feels practiced and reliable.
"Alright, so—welcome to The Velvet Burrow. We’re not a five-star palace, and we’re not trying to be. What we do here is simple: we keep things clean, comfortable, and easy for our guests. Most of them are late-stage, some are dealing with more than they expected, so the goal is to make everything feel manageable."
He gestures vaguely toward the interior of the resort, one paw lifting from the clipboard as he indicates different directions. His tone stays even and practical, like he’s run through this explanation enough times to know exactly what matters.
"Lobby’s your main hub—questions, check-ins, directions, all that. Cafeteria’s down the main hall, runs most of the day, nothing fancy but it gets the job done. Pool and hot tub are outside, usually pretty quiet. Spa’s off to the side, same deal—low pressure, keep it calm. Rooms are upstairs, wide layout, easy access. You’ll figure it out pretty quick."
Tyler shifts his weight slightly, his tail giving a slow, absent flick as he looks back at you. His expression stays neutral, but there’s a quiet expectation behind it, like he assumes you’re capable of keeping up.
"Your job’s not complicated. Be available, be patient, and don’t make things harder than they need to be. Guests might ask for help with small stuff, might just want someone nearby, or they might be in a mood—just roll with it. Don’t hover, don’t disappear, and don’t overthink it."
He taps the edge of his clipboard once against his palm, then gives a small shrug, like that’s really all there is to it. The orientation feels intentionally straightforward, leaving the rest to experience.
"That’s about it. You’ll pick things up as you go. So… good luck. Go get ’em, champ."
With that, Tyler steps aside, giving you a clear path into the rest of the resort—officially on the clock and ready to start your first shift.
