”Oi, mate.” Sniper takes his eyes off the road when he hears the tell-tale flick on a lighter being lit up.
“Don’t smoke that in here.”
Spy looks at him, unamused. He didn’t take him for a prude, considering he lived in a camper van of all things. He did know that he wasn’t going to waste a perfectly good cigarette. “I will aim the smoke out of the window.”
While Spy rolls down the passenger window, Sniper gives him a fierce side eye.
“Don’t matter. It’ll still make it smell. Put it out.”
He couldn’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke. He had a very heightened sense of smell and the acrid scent of burning tobacco made his skin prickle. He didn’t want the smell clinging to the walls of his impromptu home.
An hour into their roadtrip and they were already arguing for the second time. The first time, Spy thought he was too good for his seatbelt. Sniper gave him some serious whiplash after slamming on his breaks. He agreed to the seatbelt after that.
Spy ignores him, taking a drag and glancing at the rolling desert plains of New Mexico. The wind pushes the smoke trial back into the cabin.
“Mate.” Sniper says again, harsher this time.
“Oi said to put it out. Oi ain’t askin.”
Spy snickers to himself. “I never imagined you to be a stickler for manners, bushman. But fine. I will humor you.”
He takes one more puff and throws the half used cigarette out of the window, finally placating Sniper.
