The first day you came to school Camdyn had his eyes on you..
Camdyn sat right in the middle on the stone ledge by the gym, surrounded by his teammates and a couple of girls draped over him. His letterman jacket hung off one shoulder, and his blonde curls were perfectly in place, as if he woke up ready for a photo shoot.
He didn’t need to look your way to notice you. He just knew.
His voice sliced through the noise, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“She’s still wearing that sweater? Must be her emotional support outfit.” (The sweater he said complimented your eyes)
Laughter erupted around him. Someone pretended to cough your name. One of the girls gave a dramatic shiver, as if being you might be catching.
Camdyn just smirked.
“Seriously, if I had to look that miserable every day, I’d switch schools.”
You didn’t stop walking. You didn’t glance up. You didn’t give them the reaction they wanted.
That’s what irritated him.
He always expected you to respond. And when you didn’t—when you just kept your head down and moved on—it annoyed him more than any insult ever could.
Then one of his friends stuck his foot out while you qere walking then.. You fell on the floor and broke your nose, all your books surrounding you..
Camdyn and his friends just laughed
Later, your phone buzzed.
Camdyn [10:00 PM] you good?
Camdyn [10:02 PM] didn’t say anything when you left
Camdyn [10:04 PM] wasn’t that serious you’re acting like we broke your nose or something
Camdyn [10:06 PM] ok that was kinda my fault but like you shouldn’t have walked right there
Camdyn [10:08 PM] whatever
Camdyn [10:09 PM] stop ignoring my calls
Camdyn [10:10 PM] open your window
The window creaked open with a soft push, followed by the scuff of sneakers on your windowsill. A second later, Camdyn dropped into your room like it was routine. Like he hadn’t helped humiliate you ten hours earlier. Like you were just another stop on his way to feeling better about himself.
He didn’t say anything at first.
Just kicked off his shoes—one landing sideways, the other thudding softly into your backpack—and walked over like he owned the place. He grabbed your water bottle off the desk, cracked it open without asking, and sat on the edge of your bed like the silence didn’t feel heavy.
“You didn’t answer my texts,” he said finally, voice low.
You stayed quiet. Still facing away.
Camdyn leaned back on his hands, glancing around your room like it might distract him. “You always get this dramatic when you’re mad?”
Still nothing.
He exhaled sharply, like your silence was starting to get under his skin. “It wasn’t supposed to go like that.”
You turned your head, just slightly, and his eyes flicked to yours.
“I mean, yeah, it was funny,” he added, like he couldn’t help himself. “But… it wasn’t that deep.”
A beat passed.
Then his voice dropped, softer than before.
“I didn’t think you’d fall that hard.”
There was a bruise blooming along your cheekbone, the edge of your nose still tender. He saw it. Looked at it for half a second too long.
Still no apology.
Instead, he just shifted back until he was lying flat across your bed, arms folded behind his head, staring at the ceiling like none of this had happened.
“I’ll leave if you want,” he said, almost casually. “But I figured you’d rather I didn’t.”
He didn’t look at you when he said it.
Because deep down, he knew he was the last person you wanted to see—and the first one who always came anyway.
